NEWPORT-A 67-year-old Newport woman was airlifted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center on Thursday, Oct. 25, for treatment of injuries following a two-vehicle accident on West Highway 25/70 and Douglas Avenue, the Newport Police Department reported.

Linda Howard, of 188 Judds Lane, in Newport, was driving a 2001 GMC Yukon as she pulled out from Douglas Avenue onto West Highway 25/70, at 10:45 a.m., Patrolman Robby McMahan reported.

Howard said when she pulled out, a 2000 Pontiac driven by Brandon Proffitt, 23, of Gatlinburg, headed west on West Highway 25/70, collided with her vehicle, the report stated.

Proffitt stated that the light was green for his vehicle when he proceeded through the intersection of West Highway 25/70 and Douglas Avenue.
