NEWPORT-A 67-year-old Newport woman was airlifted to the
University of Tennessee Medical Center on Thursday, Oct. 25, for treatment of
injuries following a two-vehicle accident on West Highway 25/70 and Douglas
Avenue, the Newport Police Department reported.
Linda Howard, of 188 Judds Lane, in Newport, was driving
a 2001 GMC Yukon as she pulled out from Douglas Avenue onto West Highway 25/70,
at 10:45 a.m., Patrolman Robby McMahan reported.
Howard said when she pulled out, a 2000 Pontiac driven by
Brandon Proffitt, 23, of Gatlinburg, headed west on West Highway 25/70,
collided with her vehicle, the report stated.
Proffitt stated that the light was green for his vehicle
when he proceeded through the intersection of West Highway 25/70 and Douglas
