COSBY-With their season on the line, the Cosby Lady Eagles came
through at the last possible second.
Down to the final minute of the fourth overtime period
of Thursday night's Region 1-A/AA quarterfinal game sophomore Madison Norris gave her team a
victory.
Norris, off of a corner kick by Sunshine Mayfield, connected on a header in the
109th minute for the golden goal to give the Lady Eagles a 2-1 overtime victory over University
High. With the victory, the Lady Eagles (12-3-1) advance to Tuesday's regional semifinal at
Greeneville.
"What a beautiful header by Madison," Cosby coach Ken Green said. "She was due
and she redeemed herself from some offsides and things of that nature."
Green said his
team's effort to persevere for the overtime victory was due to their determination of wanting to
continue their season.
"They hung tough and they played with heart like I think they have
all year," Cosby coach Ken Green said. "I don't think they want to give this thing up quite
yet.
"They showed me they wanted it, they showed each other they wanted it, and they got
it," Green said.
Yet it was a similar effort by University High that sent the game into
overtime.
"Hats off to University High, they're an excellent young team," Green said. "You
can't ask for a better game, there was excellent play on both sides from the second half
on."
