NEWPORT-An 88-year-old Kodak, Tenn. resident had to be
extricated from her vehicle with the Jaws of Life, and flown to the University
of Tennessee Medical Center, following a two-vehicle collision near the Cocke
County/Jefferson County line, on Friday, Oct. 5, the Tennessee Highway Patrol
reported.
Mary Riggs, the Kodak resident, was one of two passengers
in a 2006 Nissan Maxima driven by Dana Sikes, 30, of Kodak, that was traveling
eastbound on Highway 25/70, THP Trooper Raines reported.
The Nissan was traveling behind a 2000 Toyota Tacoma
driven by Matthew Swann, 25, of Dandridge. At about 2 p.m., near the
intersection with Indian Creek Road, the Nissan driver, Sikes, reportedly went
into the westbound lane in an attempt to pass the Toyota, and swerved into the
Toyota, Trooper Raines stated in his report. For more details, please see the latest edition of the Newport Plain Talk.
