CCHS paying visit to South-Doyle on Friday

NEWPORT-Cocke County High School travels to South-Doyle this Friday night looking for an opportunity to pick up their first District 2-AAA victory of the season.

In order to do that, the Fighting Cocks will have to capitalize on the opportunities that they have missed in recent weeks. Cocke County had the ball in prime position to tie last week's game against Jefferson County in the fourth quarter, but squandered that opportunity.

That can't happen against a similar opponent on Friday night in Knoxville (7:30 p.m. RADIO: WLIK 1270-AM).

"We have to capitalize on everything," Cocke County coach Greg Hacker said. "We have to especially be able to capitalize on our long drives.

"We've had a lot of long drives this year, inside the 20-yard line, but we've not been able to capitalize on them," Hacker said. "This week we have to capitalize."

South-Doyle (5-1, 2-1) comes into Friday's game off their first loss of the season to Cherokee last week, but the Cherokees hold victories over Morristown West and Morristown East already this year. While the stat sheet and record of South-Doyle suggests a victory on Friday night, Hacker says he knows his team can play with the state's previously ranked No. 7 team in Class 5A.

"If you look at it on paper, you'd say they'd beat us," Hacker said. "But paper isn't everything - you've got to be able to play the game and play well.

"When you look at it on film, you'd think we can beat these guys," Hacker said.
