Eagles trying to stay in playoff contention

COSBY-With four games left on the schedule, the Cosby football team is still doing everything it can to get to postseason play.

The road ahead isn't going to be an easy one though as tomorrow they travel to Pigeon Forge for a non-conference battle (7:30 p.m., RADIO: WLIK 1270 AM, Tape Delay).

The Eagles (2-4, 0-3) will more than likely have to win out to receive a wild card spot in the TSSAA playoffs, and the road to that goal could all start with a big win against a school in a higher classification.

The Tigers, despite losing star tailback Chase Travis to graduation, still return a solid nucleus. Lee Hammonds, who's now in his sixth year as head coach, has 11 starters back from a season ago.

"They've still got good numbers and they've got some pretty big kids," Cosby head coach Kevin Hall said. "They are rebuilding a little bit and the post Chase Travis era may be a little rough, but it's still going to be a tough test for us this week."

"They return the majority of their team," Hall said. "People seem to think that just because they lost Chase (Travis) that they lost everybody, but they return more than half of their starters. They're an experienced bunch. It's still going to be a tough test for us going against a bigger school with bigger numbers. It's going to make it tough," Hall said.
