NEWPORT--A stained glass window from the Graves-Wyatt Chapel at the former Baptist Hospital of East Tennessee is on permanent display at Newport Medical Center.  A dedication ceremony to celebrate its installation will be held on Thursday, September 27, at 1:30 p.m. at the main entrance of the hospital.

The window installed at Newport Medical Center is one of the six original stained glass windows installed in the Graves-Wyatt Chapel at Baptist Hospital of East Tennessee in 1962.  The windows were carefully removed and preserved in storage when Baptist was closed in 2008.  

Thanks to a grant from the Mercy Foundation, the windows are being brought back into the public eye.  Newport Medical Center was chosen to receive one of the windows because of its long history as part of the former Baptist Health System. The window is a reminder of Newport Medical Center's legacy of healing and service in the community.  The first window was installed in 2011 at Tennova South and last month, two were installed at Turkey Creek Medical Center in West Knoxville.  

Plans are underway to install the remaining two windows at North Knoxville Medical Center and Physicians Regional Medical Center later this year.
