The Cocke County Election Commission reminds voters that they may be entitled to vote by absentee ballot in the November General and Newport City Elections Election scheduled for Nov. 6, 2012.

In order to be eligible to vote by absentee ballot a voter must have a legal reason, according to Administrator of Elections Joyce Slagle.

Valid legal reasons to vote by mail in Tennessee are:  persons outside of the county (including military and overseas voters); students and spouses outside of county; persons on permanent absentee voting register; residents of certain institutions; jurors; persons over 60 years of age; persons hospitalized, ill, or with a disability; candidates for office; election officials, observance of a religious holiday; or persons possessing a valid commercial driver license.
