Man caught smuggling drugs to jailed girlfriend

NEWPORT-Christopher Major Lyons, 22, of 1154 Maple Ridge Way, in Newport, was arrested Tuesday, Sept. 18, and charged with trying to smuggle in Schedule 3 drugs into the Cocke County Jail, Lt. Ricky Holt reported.

Lyons allegedly went to the old jail in the Cocke County Courthouse to see his girlfriend Danielle Cureton, who is an inmate in the jail, the report stated.

While there, Lyons was allegedly caught sliding under a door what turned out to be Suboxone pills. He then fled the jail before officers could talk to him, according to Lt. Holt's report. He was arrested at his residence and charged with introduction of Schedule 3 to a penal facility.
