NEWPORT-Funeral services have been set for Delvita Haney,
Newport Plain Talk employee.
Haney died early Sunday morning at her Mountainview
Street home after an illness of twenty months. She was 53.
Born in Newport, she was the daughter of the late Peggie
Williams and spent her early years in Springfield, Illinois, where her mother
worked for the Illinois Attorney General and she began her education.
Returning to Newport to live with her grandmother, the
late Anna Lou Williams, she finished her schooling here and graduated from
Cocke County High School.
As a younger woman, she was employed at local daycare
centers, where her love for children earned her the everlasting devotion of her
charges, who called her "Miss Del". Although she had no children of
her own, she and her husband, Danny (Skip) Haney opened their home to numerous
youngsters in need of shelter and guidance over the years.
Afterwards she worked a several local industries,
including Magnavox, Spring Arbor, and Detroit Gasket.
She returned to school after Detroit Gasket closed, and
graduated with honors in 2004 from Tennessee Technology Center in Morristown. For more details, please see the latest edition of the Newport Plain Talk.
