NEWPORT-There were three unrelated accidents involving
five Newport residents, from Friday, Sept. 14, to Monday, Sept. 17.
Two were airlifted by helicopter to the University of
Tennessee Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.
Another driver in a separate accident fled the scene of
the wreck he was in, and was arrested later that day, according to the Cocke
County Sheriff's Department.
Jason D. Carr, 28, of 606 Lehigh Drive, in Newport, was
the person arrested after he allegedly fled from the scene of an accident he
was involved in, on Friday, Sept. 14, at 3:30 p.m., K9 Cocke County Deputy
Sheriff Chris Gregg reported.
Terra J. Ellison, 36, of 594 Lehigh Drive, in Newport,
said that she was headed west on Lehigh Drive, in her 1994 Ford F15 pickup truck,
near the cross street of Lamplighter Road, when Carr, driving a 1987 Mazda B22,
allegedly came around a curve and slid into her truck, damaging the vehicle and
injuring Ellison.
Carr was located and arrested later in the evening, and
received charges, including leaving the scene of an accident, and causing
