NEWPORT-An employee with Sonoco
was seriously injured on the job this morning (Thursday, Feb. 16) just after
3 a.m., the Cocke County Sheriff's Department reported.
Deputy Sheriff Michael Whitmer of
the sheriff's department responded to a call at the plant of an employee whose
hand apparently got caught in a roller.
Whitmer said part of the unnamed
employee's arm was injured, but few other details were available.
The deputy sheriff said the employee was taken by
Allied ambulance directly to the helipad at Newport Medical Center, where he
was flown by helicopter to either the Johnson City Medical Center or the
University of Tennessee Medical Center.
