NEWPORT-A man who was shot in his stomach on Saturday,
Nov. 12, was flown by medical helicopter to the University of Tennessee Medical
Center, treated, and released, according to the Cocke County Sheriff's
James Patrick Summers, 20, of English Mountain Road, in
Newport, said he and his wife, Amy Renee Cook Summers, were walking on English
Mountain Road near Christopher's Place when, at about 9:30 p.m., a silver van
occupied by three people he did not know allegedly pulled up and shot at him
twice from a window in the vehicle, Sgt. Steve Johnson reported.
Summers was struck in the abdomen by one of the shots,
taken to the emergency room at Newport Medical Center, then flown by helicopter
to the UTMC, treated, and released, Sgt. Johnson reported.
