CENTERVIEW-The annual Centerview Ruritan Hayride is set to begin October 21 at 6 p.m. at the Centerview Elementary School football field.

The cost is $6. The hayride will also take place on October 22, 27, 28, and 29. All proceeds collected will be donated to benefit the walking track and parking lot in memory of the late Wesley "Brad" Dawson and the late Jonathon Caldwell.

During the opening night, a special candle light memorial service in memory of Dawson and Caldwell.

Dawson, 28, and Caldwell, 19, died in March of this year as the result of a boating accident on the Nolichucky River near the Warrensburg Community.

Dawson was the son of Terry and Judy Dawson and was employed by Norfolk Southern Corporation. He graduated from Cocke County High School in 2001 and was an avid hunter and fisherman, according to his father.

Terry, former Centerview Ruritan Club president and current board member, and Judy, current Centerview Ruritan Club president, stay very involved in community related activities and have done so since Brad was a child.

"We have worked with the Haunted Hollow Hayrides for approximately 25 years," said Terry. "Brad and his brother Travis always road along as I pulled the wagon. They did so until they were old enough to play parts in the different scenes. When Brad was old enough to get his driver's permit and license, he started pulling the wagon, until this past year.

"Travis continues participating in the scenes. On Friday, he will lead the hayride in memory of his brother."

Caldwell was the son of Carl "Sam" Caldwell and Jean and Michael Lovell. He has a brother, David Caldwell, 17, and a sister, Carly Caldwell, 15. He is the father of the late Abrianna Nicole Jones. As a 2009 CCHS graduate, Caldwell enlisted in the United States Army and was scheduled to leave for Basic Training on May 15.
