CCHS swimmers ready for KIL Championship

NEWPORT-The Cocke County Wet Roosters' swim team wrapped up their regular season this past Thursday night in their home pool by splitting with Alcoa and Grace Christian.

The Wet Roosters began the evening by honoring their three seniors, Alex Adkins, Emily Shults and Grant Haag.

Once in the pool, the Wet Roosters won big over Grace Christian but fell to Alcoa by a mere five points.

The Wet Roosters had one double winner on the night. Jennifer Ball took top honors in the 100-yard Fly and 100-yard Backstroke.

Other first-place finishers for the Wet Roosters were Haley Ivey in the 500-yard Free, the Girl's 200-yard Medley Relay squad of Karie Duncan, Elizabeth Evans, Jennifer Ball and Caitlin Robertson, and the Girl's 400-yard Free Relay squad of Emily Shults, Emily Costner, Haley Ivey and Mariah Huskey.

Second-place finishers for the Wet Roosters included Caitlin Robertson in the 200-yard IM, Alex Adkins in the 50-yard Free, Karie Duncan in the 100-yard Fly and 100-yard Backstroke, Jordan Lloyd in the 100-yard Fly, Peyta Ogle in the 500-yard Free, John Huskey in the 500-yard Free, Garon Bateman in the 100-yard Breaststroke, the Boy's 200-yard Medley and 200-yard Free Relay squads of Alex Adkins, Jacob Holt, Jordan Lloyd and Garon Bateman, and the Girl's 200-yard Free Relay squad of Karie Duncan, Peytan Ogle, Jennifer Ball and Caitlin Robertson.

Third-place finishers for the Wet Roosters were John Huskey in the 200-yard Free, Elizabeth Evans in the 200-yard IM, Garon Bateman in the 200-yard IM, Alex Adkins in the 100-yard Free, Jordan Lloyd in the 100-yard Backstroke and Caitlin Robertson in the 100-yard Breaststroke.

Other points were scored by the Wet Roosters' Maria Huskey, Emily Shults, Jacob Holt, Emily Costner and Megan Suggs.

A record number of Wet Roosters qualified to compete in the prestigious KISL High School Swimming Championship, slated for this Saturday, Jan. 29, at the University of Tennessee Aquatic Center in Knoxville, including Peytan Ogle (two events), Jennifer Ball (three events), Garon Bateman (two events), Megan Suggs (one event), Elizabeth Evans (one event), Caitlin Robertson (one event), Karie Duncan (two events), Jordan Lloyd (four events), Grant Haag (one event), Emily Shults (one event) and Jacob Holt (one event).
