NEWPORT-While Cocke County Circuit Judge Ben W. Hooper II
was presiding over a criminal trial and Judge Dwayne Slone was conducting a
civil court hearing this week, members of the Cocke County Grand Jury were
hearing a total of 79 criminal cases.
Submitting its report to Judge Hooper after the criminal
court jury retired to deliberate late Tuesday morning, the grand jury returned
41 indictments, six presentments which were opened for public inspection, 26
presentments which Judge Hooper ordered sealed, and six no true bills.
