NEWPORT-Cocke County High School first-year baseball
coach Andy Chrisman, along with assistant coach Zach Reese, has announced the
formation of a fall instructional league to benefit the county's little league
and youth baseball players.
The Chrisman-Reese Fall Instructional League begins
tonight at the CCHS baseball complex and runs through the end of October. The
instructional league will be held every Tuesday and Thursday night from 6 to 8
p.m.
The league will be held for those who are age seven all
the way through those who are currently in eighth grade.
"This is an opportunity to help the kids and those
involved in Little League, who are the future of our program," Chrisman
said. "It will be an opportunity for those kids to work with the high
school coaching staff and to learn skills and get better.
"Over the course of the two months, we will have 16
practices and cover running, hitting, fielding and pitching skills,"
Chrisman said.
Chrisman, who will also start his first fall as CCHS
baseball coach earlier on Tuesday afternoon with after school workouts, called
the instructional league a win-win situation. Proceeds, which are on a strictly
donation basis, will go towards the funding of a new locker room complex.
"This is a win-win situation for everyone,"
Chrisman said. "This gives the future of our baseball program a chance to
improve and get better, along with helping out the future of our baseball
program facilities.
"Right now our kids have to dress in the parking lot
and it will be beneficial to our program if we can give them an enclosed locker
room," Chrisman said.
Chrisman said for more information on the
league to call him at (865) 850-2871.
