NEWPORT-Here we go again! It's time for the 2010 Newport Plain Talk Football Contest.

And, checking both the college and high school schedules for the next ten weeks, there are some very interesting match-ups that should be tough for all who participate.

Each and every Tuesday for the next ten weeks, you will find The Newport Plain Talk Football Contest page. Today, Week No. 1, can be found on page 13.

It's easy to play. You will find five high school and five college games each week within each of our sponsor ads. But, because college doesn't officially begin until next week, this week in the football contest, we have nine high school and one college game for you. On the contest entry form, found in the middle of the page, simply chose which team you think will win, what you think the final score will be, which will be used for tie breakers, and from what sponsor's ad you found the match-up in.

Once you've completed the entry form, simply clip it out, and drop it by The Plain Talk, or mail it to The Newport Plain Talk, Football Contest, 145 East Broadway, Newport, TN. 37821.

In addition, we'll have the complete results for you every Tuesday in The Plain Talk's Sports section. It will include our weekly winners, and the weekly standings.

Make sure you play each and every week. Our overall winner at the end of the season will be presented the Grand Prize, one cinema party for the winner and 19 friends or family members from Newport Cinema 4, located at 424 Heritage Blvd. in Newport. This includes a movie complete with popcorn and drinks for the 20 attendees.

The runner-up at the end of the season will receive a portable DVD player from Movie Time Video, located at 150 East Broadway in Newport.

The third-place finisher will receive a $50 gift certificate from Poe's Sport Center, located at 160 Highway 25-E in Newport.

The fourth-place finisher will win a $50 gift certificate Jewelry Showroom, located at 503 Cosby Highway in Newport.

The fifth-place finisher will win one night's lodging at any Motel 6, in Newport, located at 225 Heritage Blvd.

And, the sixth-place finisher will get a quick lube, oil and filter courtesy of Stinnett's, located at 1041 West Highway 25/70 in Newport.

We also have some great prizes for our weekly winners, including a $10 gift certificate from Pizza Plus, located at 733 Cosby Highway in Newport, and one free movie rental compliments of Movie Time Video, located at 150 East Broadway in Newport.

We wouldn't be able to have the weekly Football Contest without our other great sponsors, including Wilson's Sav-Mor Pharmacy, located at 243 East Main Street at Red Light No. 13 in Newport, Fox and Hounds, located at 127 Fox & Hounds Way in Newport, Brockwell Construction Co., Inc., located at 980 Thinwood Drive in Newport, The Men's Den, located at 240 East Broadway in Newport, Town & Country Drugs, located at 771 Cosby Highway in Newport, Dixie Pawn Shop, located at 747 Cosby Highway in Newport, Stinnett Heating & Air, LLC., located at 642 Rankin Road in Newport, Eastport Exxon, located at 662 East Broadway in Newport, Baptist Hospital & Convalescent Center of Cocke County, located at 435 Second Street in Newport and 450 College Street in Newport, Dixie Pawn Shop, located at 747 Cosby Highway in Newport, U.S. Title Loans, located at 656 Cosby Highway in Newport and Mooneyham's Gold & Diamonds, located at 318 Cosby Highway in Newport.

We hope that when you stop in any of these fine businesses, you mention the Football Contest.

We lined up some pretty tough picks for you to start things off today.

In High School action, Cocke County will have their home-opener when they host Seymour this Friday night while Cosby plays host to District rival Hampton. Austin-East will play at Fulton while Knox Catholic is at home to Farragut. And, Morristown East travels to South Doyle.

On the college level, Tennessee starts the season at home this Saturday against U.T.-Martin. Illinois tangles with Missouri in their annual boarder war, while Colorado takes on Colorado State. Chattanooga starts the season at home against Appalachian State. And, Purdue travels to Notre Dame.

Don't forget, you're picks have to be in by 5 p.m. Fridays.

So, let's get after it, turn to page 13, and make your picks. And, best of luck!
