COSBY-There was plenty of incentive on both sides of the
field for this one. The Cosby Eagles were looking to prove themselves in front
of the home folks for the first time this season after a disappointing 26-0
loss in their season-opener at Claiborne last Friday night. The Gatlinburg-Pittman Highlanders were
looking to go 2-0 and snatching head coach Benny Hammonds' 300th career
victory.
The stands were packed, overflowing actually, the Cocke
County High School Red Regiment marching band was in the house, the G-P
marching band was there, and the stage was set. It was a playoff-like
atmosphere.
There were plenty of fireworks that followed.
Unfortunately for Eagle fans, the majority of those fireworks belonged to the
Highlanders (2-0), who out-manned and out-sized the youthful Eagles (0-2) en
rout to a 55-14 victory.
