Cosby Volleyball opens at Gibbs

KNOXVILLE-The Cosby Lady Eagles opened their 2010 volleyball campaign on the road in Knox Gibbs Monday evening with four teams in action, including Clinton and Pigeon Forge.

The Lady Eagles duked it out with Pigeon Forge first, and finished the evening with an exciting three sets against Gibbs.

In their opener against Pigeon Forge, the Lady Eagles dropped the first set 25-17, but came back to even things up in the second set with a 27-25 victory in a tie-breaker. The two teams battled serve for serve in the third and final set which went to a tie-breaker as well. But, the Lady Tigers managed to pull it out 28-26.

Ashley Diluigi led the Lady Eagle attack with five points, one ace, six assists, three kills and one block. Allyson Walker-Cramer added four points, three aces, two assists, seven kills and one block.

In the nightcap, the Lady Eagles shook off their tough loss to Pigeon Forge by getting a big two-sets-to-one victory over homestanding Gibbs.

The Lady Eagles took the first set 25-13, but Gibbs came back to get even by taking the second set 16-25. But, the Lady Eagles regrouped, and took the match with a 25-20 third-set victory.

Amanda Evans led the Lady Eagle attack with eight points, three aces, two assists, seven kills and one block. Ashlie Salliott added three points, five kills and three digs.

The Lady Eagles return to action this afternoon on the road at Grainger County with both junior varsity and varsity action. First serve is slated for 4 p.m. for the JV with varsity to follow at 5:30 p.m.

The Lady Eagles will finish out their first week on the road at West Greene this Thursday, August 26, with both JV and varsity on the court. First serve for JV will be at 4:30 p.m. followed by varsity.
