ATLANTA, GA-The National Society of High School Scholars
(NSHSS) has announced that Cosby High School's Robert Herzog has been selected
for membership.
The Society recognizes top scholars and invites on those
students who have achieved academic excellence. The announcement was made by
NSHSS founder and Chairman Claes Nobel, a senior member of the family that
established the Nobel Prizes.
"On behalf of NSHSS, I am honored to recognize the
hard work, sacrifice and commitment that Robert has demonstrated to achieve
this level of academic excellence," said Mr. Nobel. "Robert is now a
member of a unique community of scholars, a community that represents our very
best hope for the future."
"Our vision is to build a dynamic international
organization that connects members with meaningful content, resources and
opportunities," said NSHSS President James Lewis. "We aim to help
students like Robert build on their academic successes and enhance the skills
and desires to have a positive impact on the global economy."
Membership in NSHSS entitles qualified students to enjoy
a wide variety of benefits, including scholarship opportunities, academic
competitions, free events, member-only resources, publications, participation
in programs offered by educational partners, online forums, personalized
recognition items and publicity honors.
Formed in 2002, The National Society of High School
Scholars recognizes academic excellence at the high school level and encourages
members of the organization to apply their unique talents, vision and potential
for betterment of themselves and the world. Currently, there are more than
530,000 society members in over 160 countries.
In May of this year, Herzog was recognized by the United
States Achievement Academy as a Student of Excellence. The exclusive members of
the Academy have an average overall grade point average of a 3.8 on a 4.0
scale. The Academy membership represents the elite among today's students.
Incredibly, many of the Academy's members have achieved perfect ACT and SAT
scores, and excellent grade point averages.
In addition to his excellence in the classroom, Herzog is
a standout three-sport athlete at Cosby High School, starring in football,
basketball and track & field.
Herzog is the son of Patricia R. and Randal Herzog of
Newport. He is the grandson of Mindy and Jerry Proctor of Newport, Carol and
Walt Milligan of El Mirage, Arizona, Gloria Birdsbill and George Knudsen of
Lake Orion, Michigan and the late Neil Silver Herzog of Newport. He is the
great-grandson of Dorothy and Ruebin Carlson of Newport.
Robert's proud mom, Patti, was especially
grateful to all of the teachers and staff at Cosby High School, especially to
the Eagles' football coaching staff, including head coach Tyler Shelton, and
assistant coaches Kevin Hall, Johnny Yoakum, Dan Schreder, Levi Cooper, Stephan
Swann, Moe Blanchard, and Tina Williamson as well.
