COSBY-Nearly 30 players were being put through their paces Monday on Raymond Large Field as the Cosby Eagles began fall football practice in earnest.

With the head index hovering around the 100 degree mark, water breaks came often as the Eagles go through two-a-days at least through Wednesday.

The Eagles aren't wasting any time jumping into the fray. Their first scrimmage is coming up this Friday, July 30, when they travel to West Greene. The scrimmage is slated for around 6:30 p.m. And, the Eagles will be hosting a scrimmage the following Friday, August 6, when they welcome Unicoi County to Raymond Large Field starting at around 6:30 p.m.

The Eagles will kick off their 2010 campaign on Friday, August 20, when they travel to Claiborne County.

FUNDRAISER

The Eagles and coaching staff are currently raising funds to help with the team's expenses by selling discount cards. At a cost of only $10, the cards will get you discounts and free food from a host of our local businesses, including Burger King, Seven Springs Market and Deli, Little Ceasars Pizza, Monterey Restaurant, Bojangles, Newport Cinema 4, Papa Johns Pizza, Huddle House, Dairy Queen, Waffle House, Hardee's, the Grease Rack, Arby's, Mama's Kitchen, Sonic Drive-In, Pizza Plus, Sub Way and Bella's Country Kitchen. The cards are available from any of the players or coaches.

HELP WITH SCOREBOARD

The Raymond Large Field scoreboard was recently vandalized and now needs to be completely rewired. To help pay for the repair, the football squad is currently selling advertising for the scoreboard. If you would like to have your company prominently displayed on the scoreboard, give coach Larry Proffitt a call at (423) 608-7855.
