NEWPORT-They've been plying golf courses around Tennessee
all summer in the Tennessee Golf Association Junior Tour. And their efforts,
and successes, have paid off.
Cocke County is home to two golfers that have qualified
and have received invitations to play in the TGA Junior Tour's post-season
tournaments. Jacob Quinton and Alayna Perryman will be competing against the
best the TGA Junior Tour has to offer.
Quinton is ranked 22nd in the TGA Junior Tour's 16-18
Boy's Masters division, and will be playing in the Boy's 16-18 Masters 2010
Tournament of Champions at The Golf Club of Tennessee in Kingston Springs
Tuesday and Wednesday, July 27-28. Quinton was an integral part of the 2009
Cocke County High School boy's golf squad that went to the State Tournament in
Murfreesboro. Another member of that team, Chase Atkins of Newport, was
selected as an alternate to play in the tournament.
Selection to the Tournament of Champions was based on
adjusted scoring average. A player must have played in at least tour tournament
rounds to be eligible. At the end of the season, the player's top three
adjusted scores were averaged to determine their season scoring average. Based
on those averages, a percentage of players from each division were selected to
attend the Toyota Tournament of Champions.
Perryman qualified and was invited to the
2010 Toyota Aspen Grove Challenge in the Girl's 8-11 Micro division, which is
being played this weekend at the Little Course at Conner Lane in Franklin.
Perryman is the 12th ranked TGA Junior Tour golfer in her age group after
playing in seven events this summer. She departed for the tournament on Friday
for a practice round before the two-day even began on Saturday and will finish
up today.
