EDGEMONT BASEBALL SIGN-UPS
Edgemont will finish sign-ups for a recreational baseball
program, grades 7-9, ages 13-15, at Edgemont ball fields next to Edgemont
Elementary School next Saturday, March 27. Sign-up fees are $35. A copy of the
child's birth certificate is needed. Sign-ups and practices will be held on

NEWPORT LITTLE LEAGUE FOOTBALL
Newport Little League Football Directors, Coaches and
Board Members will meet on Saturday, March 27, at 12:30 p.m. at the City Park
football field. This meeting is open to the public.
REC LEAGUE SOFTBALL, BASEBALL SIGN-UPS
The Cocke County Recreation Department is currently
holding their softball and baseball sign-ups through Wednesday, March 31, for
ages 5-18 for girls and 5-10 for boys. The cost will be $35 for ages 5-12 and
$40 for ages 13-18. Registrations can be done during normal business hours. For

SMOKY MOUNTAIN LITTLE LEAGUE
Sign-ups are underway for Tee Ball and Baseball at the
Newport Parks & Recreation Department in the Newport Community Center
through March 31. Sign-ups are for Tee Ball (ages 5-6), Coach Pitch (ages 7-8),
Minor League (ages 9-10), Major League (ages 11-12) and Junior League (ages
13-14). The cost is $35 for ages 5-12 and $45 for ages 13-16. There will be a
new Training League Program beginning this year for Tee Ball. The program will
be for 4 year-old boys and girls. Girls must be born in 2005 and boys born
between May 2005 through April 2006. Registration forms may be picked up at the
Newport Community Center. Registration will be from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday,
Tuesday and Thursday, and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please bring a copy
of your child's birth certificate and proof of residence. For more information,

GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS SPORTSMAN SHOW
The 2010 Great Smoky Mountains Sportsman Show will
feature the latest hunting gear, expert advice from professional hunters and a
3-D archery tournament. The Sportsman Show, a fundraiser for the Walters State
Alumni Association, will be held Friday through Sunday, March 26-28, at the
Walters State Great Smoky Mountains Expo Center in White Pine. Hunting and
fishing equipment, Jon boats, four-wheelers, RV's, campers and gun safes will be
on display. Expert hunters, such as five-time world champion turkey caller Doug
Adkins, and hunting guides will be at the show to provide tips and information.
The inaugural Great Smoky Mountains 3-D Archery Championship Tournament,
featuring a $500 first-place cash prize, will also be held during the show.
Admission is $5, with children under the age of 10 admitted free of charge.
Show hours are Friday, 5-9 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; and Sunday, noon to

SMOKY MOUNTAIN TROUT TOURNAMENT
It's tournament time in Tennessee! April 3 and 4 are the
dates for the south's premier trout tournament. Our 12th annual spring event,
sponsored by the cities of Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg and Sevierville, as well as
Sevier County, features 20 miles of streams stocked with over 5,000 trout
including 1,500 in the 3-lb to 9-lb class. This bi-annual event draws anglers
from all over the country to the Smokies for a shot at a world class rainbow.
Prizes range from hotel accommodations, restaurant gift certificates, amusement
passes, trophies, fishing equipment, and cash! A $40 entry fee is all it takes
to join in the fun! Winners are determined by total weight of a five-fish-limit
per day in four divisions: local youth and adult, tourist youth and adult. Each
division has 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place and prizes are awarded for the largest and

GRACE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
Grace Christian Academy, located at 5914 Beaver Ridge
Road in Knoxville, will be hosting their 3rd Annual Rams Spring Classic Friday
and Saturday, April 9-10, for boys and girls ages 9u-14u. Each team is
guaranteed three games plus championship games. The cost is $125. For more

BEAST FEAST
The 2nd Annual Beast Feast has been scheduled for
Saturday, April 10, at Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church, located at 234 Lincoln
Avenue in Newport, starting at 5 p.m. This year's wild game menu includes deer,
bear, wild hog, duck, grouse, pheasant, fish (walleye, crappie, sauger), wild
turkey, raccoon, possum and much more. The traditional menu includes hot dogs,
pulled pork barbeque, homemade sides, homemade deserts and homemade bread.
Guest speakers are Brent Besosa and Sam Bennett, producers and hosts of 'God's
Great Land of the Wild' DVD series and 'The Gospel on Boss Gobblers.' In
addition to great food, there will be video games, antler scoring, exotic
mounts, a laser shooting gallery and door prizes. The grand prize drawing will
be a $2,500 South Dakota pheasant hunt for two at Pheasant City Lodge
(www.pheasantcity.com), which includes guide fees, meals and lodging. This
event is FREE, no tickets or RSVP needed, just show up!
EDGEMONT SPRING FOOTBALL
Edgemont Little League and Middle School Football &
Cheerleading programs will be holding Spring Sign-ups starting Monday, April
26, through Friday, April 30, (excluding Wednesday the 28th) from 6 to 7:30
p.m. at Edgemont football field. Sign up fees are $35 and need to be paid at
time of sign-up. Proof of Insurance is needed as well. The program is also
accepting applications for all areas of coaching (if coached before you need to
resubmit an application). For applications, or any questions, please call

through March 23.
NEWPORT LION'S CLUB HORSE SHOW
The Newport Lion's Club 17th Annual Horse
Show has been scheduled for Saturday, May 16, at the Cocke County A&I
Fairgrounds starting at 6 p.m. Proceeds from the event help the Lion's Club
support the Tennessee Lion's Eye Center at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital among
other charitable organizations. The show is affiliated with the United Racking
Horse Owners and Exhibitors Association and the Appalachian Horse Show
Association and will feature 29 classes, including a Stick Horse Class for the
children. The entry fee for each class is $25, except for the Lead Line, which
is $5, and the URHOEA Racking Stake, which is $40. The fee for the Stick Horse
Class will be paid for by the Lion's Club. There will be concessions. Admission
is just $5 with children 10 and under free. The URHOEA and Pleasure Judge will
be Kathy Givens of Duffield, Virginia, with Alton Cureton of Newport the
announcer, Shorty Vick of Newport the Farrier, Bobby Holt and Larry Butler the
Ringmasters, John R. Chambers, DVM, and Russell Reel, DVM, of Bybee the
