GREENEVILLE-A Cocke County man, who has been named as a
"person of interest" in the April 26, 2009, disappearance of Megan
Maxwell, has been sentenced to six years in prison on charges of traveling in
interstate commerce and failing to register as a sex offender.
Jeffrey Lee Stock was sentenced Wednesday by Judge Ronnie
Greer in U.S. District Court in Greeneville. Following a June 9, 2009
indictment by a federal grand jury, Stock had made a plea agreement before
Judge Greer on Sept. 14, 2009.
Stock was convicted of two counts of sexual battery in
Morgan County, Ind., on Nov. 23, 1998. He was charged with battering and raping
two Indianapolis girls, ages 16 and 17, in a rural county. At some point during
the carjacking, Stock allegedly produced a box knife with a razorblade in it,
then threatened, beat and attacked the girls. He was sentenced to serve two
years and was released on May 16, 2000.
The indictment states, as a result of the convictions,
Stock was required to notify law enforcement within 72 hours after he changed
his principal place of residence.
The indictment states that on Aug. 21, 2008, Stock
traveled interstate commerce from Indiana to Tennessee and on Oct. 8, 2008,
moved his place of residence to Fisher Vin Way, Del Rio. Stock reportedly never
notified Indiana authorities of his change of address.
Although he has never been charged in connection with
Maxwell's disappearance, authorities have stated that Stock is a person of
interest in the case. Despite numerous searches, authorities have been unable
to locate Maxwell since she was last seen at her father's home in Newport on
April 26 of last year.
