SHERIFF'S REPORTS:
Accident on Point Pleasant Road
Sally A. Hatton, 44, of Fowlers Ridge Road, in Newport,
was traveling east in a 1993 Chevy Cavalier, on Wednesday, March 3, on Rocky
Hollow Road. George A. Ailshire, 76, of Nolichucky Circle, in Newport, was
traveling west in a 1991 Toyota pickup truck, on Corral Way. Hatton made a
right turn onto Point Pleasant Road to go south. Ailshire made a left turn from
Corral Way onto Point Pleasant Road to go south. The two vehicles collided near
the center of Point Pleasant Road, Deputy Sheriff Timothy N. Snapp reported.
Hatton was injured and taken to a hospital by Allied ambulance services.
POLICE REPORTS
Arrested for domestic assault
Justin Brown, 26, of 110 Apartment 125 on the Cosby
Highway, in Newport, was arrested Thursday, March 4, and charged with domestic
assault, Patrolman Robby McMahan reported.
Theft under $500
Dustin K. Smith, 17, of 703 Epley Road, in Newport, was
arrested last week and charged with theft under $500, Det. Lynn Shults
reported. April Henderson apparently took out a state warrant, saying she gave
a ride to Smith, then he jumped from her van and took with him her pocketbook
and its contents, with a value of under $500.
Stolen tag reported
Dennis Balch said he took his vehicle on Thursday, March
4, to an auto repair shop for work to be done on it. He said when he picked it
up later that day, he noticed the tag was missing. The vehicle had reportedly
been sitting in the parking lot of the repair shop for most of the time it was
at the shop, Patrolman Billy Woody reported. The license plate is valued at
$25.
Accident at Baptist Hospital of Cocke County
Esley G. Hall, 60, of Warren Street, in Newport, said he
was parked in a 2000 Chevrolet Impala, at Baptist Hospital of Cocke County,
waiting to pick up a patient out of the hospital, when James C. Timmens, 88, of
Fincher Road, in Newport, struck the Chevrolet with a 2003 Ford Ranger pickup
truck that Timmens was in, according to a report from the Newport Police
Department.
Vandalism over $1,000
Michael Barnes, 52, of Douglas Avenue, in Newport, said
that when he returned home on Tuesday, March 2, at 8 p.m., he found his truck
had been keyed from the front driver side door to the rear of the driver's
side. Barnes named a suspect, Patrolman Matt Franklin reported. Damage is
valued at $1,500.
Accident on Highway 25/70
Zachary James Strom, 17, of East Highway 25/70, in Del
Rio, was driving a 2005 Toyota CTR, on Saturday, Feb. 27, at 12:40 a.m., on
Highway 25/70, at Cope Blvd. A witness and Strom said he had the green light
and was driving through the intersection behind another car when his Toyota was
struck by a 1988 Ford Thunderbird driven by Christopher Eric Miller, 34, of
Sycamore Way, in Newport. The Thunderbird suffered disabling damage to the
front end in an amount exceeding $400, and was towed. A passenger, Jake Woods,
31, was uninjured. Strom's Toyota suffered disabling damage to the right side
near the front in an amount exceeding $400, Patrolman Matt Franklin reported.
Accident on Lakeview Street at White Oak Avenue
Fred Leonard Gregg Jr., 47, of Woodlawn Avenue, in
Newport, was driving a 2006 Lincoln Towncar owned by Manes Funeral Home, at a
stop sign on Lakeview Street at White Oak Avenue, on Tuesday, March 2, at
12:25, Patrolman Tom Whitfield reported. Gregg was waiting for a truck to go
by. He pulled out and struck a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Joshua Allen
Ewen, 21, of Glendale Road, in Bybee, causing damage to the Pontiac in the left
side. Gregg said he did not see Ewen or the Pontiac. There was damage to the
front end of the Lincoln Towncar.
