Gas can
full of gas reported stolen
Timothy J.
Mathews, 54, of Zacks Way, in Newport, named a suspect he believes stole a
five-gallon gas can full of gas from Mathews' garage, sometime between Feb. 8
and Feb. 15. He said that on Tuesday, Feb. 16, one day later, he found his gas
can in the rear of a vehicle belonging to an acquaintance. He recovered his gas
can, apparently without the gas, Deputy Sheriff Brian Holt reported. The gas
can is valued at $10, and the five gallons of gas at $12.50.

Deardorff, 17, of Valley Walk Way, said he left his home on Sunday, Feb. 14, at
about 6 p.m. and when he returned two days later, he discovered someone had
entered his bedroom window and taken a Toshiba plasma TV from his bedroom. He
named a suspect, Deputy Sheriff Travis Webb reported.

Elliott, 19, of Vince Lane, in Newport, said that on Tuesday, Feb. 16, she got
into an altercation with an acquaintance at his home and that "a lot" of words
were exchanged. Elliott said the person wanted her to leave the home, grabbed a
baseball and threatened her, and another person pushed her in the chest and
"assaulting her at the residence." That other person allegedly ran off on foot
prior to the arrival of officers, Deputy Sheriff C.J. Ball reported.
Assault and
retaliation for past action

Smith, 23, of 1905 Vince Lane, in Newport, was arrested on Tuesday, Feb. 16,
and charged with assault and retaliation for past action, following an incident
that occurred on Aug. 14 at Bridgeport Elementary School. Warrants alleged that
Smith threatened a DCS case worker at the school on that date and also verbally
assaulted her by cussing and causing a scene at the school. Smith also
allegedly threatened the case worker's life during the altercation, Deputy
Sheriff C.J. Ball reported.
Two charges

Darrell Gilland, 31, of 2864 Highway 321, in Parrottsville, was arrested
Monday, Feb. 15, and charged with two counts of violation of probation, Deputy
Sheriff David Crowder reported. Gilland was reportedly found hiding underneath
the back porch of a residence on South Highway 32 in Cosby.
Accident on
Blue Mill Road

Moore, 55, of 1215 Ivory Way, in Del Rio, was driving a 2007 Dodge pickup truck
headed south on Blue Mill Road, on Friday, Feb. 12, at about 6 a.m., Sgt. David
Crum reported. The road was allegedly covered with ice and snow. Moore said he
hit a dip in the road and as he started into the curve, he lost control of the
truck due to ice on the road. The vehicle left the road and hit a tree, causing
damage to the front of his truck.

New Cave Church Road

Harris, 20, of 523 Old Sevierville Highway, in Newport, was traveling west on
New Dave Church Road at South Highway 321, on Jan. 29, at about 8 p.m., when
the 1998 Pontiac Grand Am she was driving went off the right side of the road,
hit a tree on the passenger side of the vehicle and went off an embankment. The
vehicle had minor damage to the right side of the vehicle, Deputy Sheriff
Randall Hartsell reported.

charged for leaving scene of an accident

Monos, 42, of 7021 Armory Road, in Newport, was driving a 1994 Ford F-150 truck
on East Highway 25/70 at North Highway 340, on Thursday, Feb. 4, at about 5:30
a.m. Rebecca L. Kelley, 25, of 280 Bear Branch Road, in Del Rio, was driving a
1997 Kia Sportage SUV and hit the brakes when Monos allegedly pulled out from
North Highway 340 in front of Kelley in the Kia. The Kia hit Monos' Ford in the
rear. Monos kept driving and never called the wreck in to police. He was
charged with no proof of insurance and leaving the scene of an accident, Deputy
Sheriff Randall Hartsell reported. The Kia had damage to the front bumper,
grill, and hood. The Ford had very minor damage to the rear bumper.

South Highway 321

Dotson, 47, of Schisandra Lane, in Cosby, was traveling north on South Highway
321, on Saturday, Feb. 13, at Greasy Cove Road, in a 2009 Chevrolet truck,
entered a curve and went straight, hit an embankment, went side ways and landed
on its left side before coming to a stop. Dotson had the smell of alcohol about
his person, bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and was unsteady on his feet.
Dotson was charged with DUI 1st offense and violation of the implied
consent law, Deputy Sheriff Randall Hartsell reported.

Jones Cove Road/Highway 339

Grooms, 59, of Jones Cove Road (Highway 339) was traveling west on Jones Cove
Road in a 2007 Lexus E35 on Friday, Feb. 12, at about 3:45 p.m. when she came
upon a vehicle stopped in the road. Grooms said when she applied the brakes,
the Lexus slid on the snow-covered road and off the right side of the road and
into a ditch. Grooms said she could not stay on the road and go around the
other vehicle because it had the road blocked, Deputy Sheriff Brian Holt
reported.
DUI 1st

Davidson, 38, of 108 Hopeville Road, in Newport, was arrested Saturday, Feb.
13, and charged with DUI 1st offense, violation of the Tennessee
seat belt law, and an open container (of alcohol), Sgt. Armando Fontes
reported. Davidson allegedly had a blood alcohol content of .11 when he took a
breath test at the county jail.

Coggins, 41, of 1901 Coggins Road, in Del Rio, was arrested Sunday, Feb. 14, at
1:35 a.m., and charged with possession of Schedule II Oxycodone 30 mg with
intent to sell or deliver, DUI 2nd offense, driving on a revoked
driver's license, open container, violation of Tennessee light law, financial
responsibility, and violation of Tennessee implied consent, Sgt. Armando Fontes
reported. Fontes reported that he was on patrol in Parrottsville when he saw
Coggins traveling south with a headlight out. Fontes said 93 Zanax 2 mg and
Oxycodone 30 mg pills in two bottles were unaccounted for. They were filled
Feb. 11 and prescribed by Executive Pain in Florida, Fontes reported.

Watson, 18, of 148 Valley Walk Way, in Cosby, was arrested Wednesday, Feb. 17,
and charged with theft over $1,000, Det. Bryan Murr reported. He was charged
with the Feb. 5 theft of a computer and PSP from the Sandy Evans residence at
170 Highway which the victim valued at 41,700.

Holt, 50, of Peach Lane, in Newport, said he received a text from a friend of a
relative asking him to call the relative immediately. The relative, a minor,
said another relative had been grabbing her in inappropriate places and said
she was afraid of him and another relative, Deputies Joseph Owings and Thomas
Harp reported.

Peralpa, 34, of Mountain Ridge Road, told Deputy Sheriff Randall Hartsell on
Sunday, Feb. 14, that someone called and wanted to meet her husband to fight
him. She said she doesn't know who the person is who is calling and harassing
them, but she wants them to stop.
Vehicle

Marler, 35, of Ground Hog Road, said he was driving down Old Hartford Road on
Sunday, Feb. 14, when a large rock fell on the road and he ran over it. He said
the rock damaged the undercarriage of his vehicle, a 2005 Ford Escape, and its
transmission. Damage appeared to be over $500, Sgt. Armando Fontes reported.

Hooper Highway (Highway 321)

Foster, 50, of Fir Way, in Cosby, said she was traveling south bound on Hooper
Highway (Highway 321) on Monday, Feb. 15, in a 1999 Toyota Corolla and Timothy
F. Tyler, 47, of Magnolia Place Ct., in Mount Pleasant, in S.C., was traveling
north when Tyler lost control of his vehicle on the slushy road, slid sideways
into the southbound lane and struck the Toyota Corolla. Tyler's 2003 Ford
Expedition SUV came to a rest sitting sideways across Ledford Road, Deputy
Sheriff Brian Holt reported.
Ice and
snow blamed for accident

Thompson, 30, of Denton Road, in Newport, was driving a 1998 Dodge Durango
pickup truck on Friday, Feb. 12, at about 9:30 a.m., on Old Hartford Road, when
Sgt. Armando Fontes saw Thompson run off the road and strike a telephone pole.
Slick road conditions were a factor, Fontes wrote, The right front end of the
Dodge suffered damage. The roads were covered with ice and snow.

Three drug-related
arrests at Parkway Inn apartment
Three
people at the Parkway Inn Apartments were arrested Wednesday, Feb. 17, and
charged with various drug charges. Officers went to Apt. 132 to serve a
community of corrections warrant on James Robert Sutton, 23, of 195 Ground
Squirrel Road, in Del Rio. Kelvin R Sutton, who rented the room and answered
the door, said James Sutton was in the bathroom and gave officers permission to
search the apartment for him. Officers discovered in the bathroom a dissolved pill
on a spoon that James Sutton allegedly admitted was oxycodone. Officers also
found a syringe he said was loaded with water. Patrolman Robby McMahan arrested
James Sutton for violation of community corrections, possession of Schedule II,
and drug paraphernalia. Kelvin said two spoons with burn marks on the bottom of
them and with white powder substances that police found in a dresser was
crushed Roxiecodone that he was going to shoot up. Calvin Sutton was arrested
and charged with possession of drugs Schedule II (Roxiecodone) and possession
of drug paraphernalia. Kelvin Sutton said his residence was 275 Deer Foot Road,
in Cosby. Patrolman Matthew Elliott arrested him. Also arrested was Lorinda G.
Sutton, 34, of 685 Carson Springs Road, by Patrolman Billy Woody. She allegedly
had a red purse with a used syringe that contained a very small amount of white
liquid inside it. She was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Shelton, 15, of 9th Street, in Newport, said she got onto her My
Yearbook account on the Internet on Wednesday, Feb. 17, and observed a message
that said "she raped my brother" on her status wall. She named an acquaintance
she believes made the comment, Patrolman Robby McMahan reported.
Lost or
stolen wallet
Sandra
Wise, 50, of Splash Away Road, in Newport, said she believes she lost a wallet
at Walgreens, at 102 East Broadway, in Newport, on Wednesday, Feb. 17,
Patrolman Matt Franklin reported. The wallet is valued at $60; a check book,
$25; ID's, $25; and $40 in cash, for a total value of $150.
Theft of

Thompson, 38, of 2600 East Andrew Johnson Highway, in Morristown, said on
Wednesday, Feb. 17, that his company in 2002 leased a cooler to a café that
used to be located at 444 East Broadway. It has since gone out of business and
Thompson said he has been unable to locate anyone to retrieve the cooler,
Patrolman Heather Lawson reported. The GDM 12 cooler is valued at $660.
Counterfeit
one dollar bill

of Texaco's Mr. Gas at 1301 West Highway 25/70, in Newport, said she counted
money before 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 17, and discovered a counterfeit one
dollar bill she believes was passed at Mr. Gas on Tuesday, Feb. 16, or on Feb.
17 early in the morning, Patrolman Donald Coakley reported.

Frady, 18, of 265 Larmie Circle, in Newport, was arrested Tuesday, Feb. 16, and
charged with underage consumption. Frady was allegedly involved in a
disturbance at his mom's residence and admitted to an officer that he had been
drinking tequila on that date, Sgt. David Smith reported.
Theft under

Phillips, 51, of Bill Douglas Road, in Newport spoke to police on Tuesday, Feb.
16. Phillips said that on Feb. 3 he went to Jabo's Pharmacy, at 602 East
Broadway, in Newport, to get medications filled. He said he left $350 in cash
in the pocket of his blue jean jacket, was in the pharmacy for 15 minutes, then
returned to find the jacket and money were gone from his unlocked vehicle. The
jacket was valued at $50, Patrolman Travis Gorrell reported.

James Davis, 29, of Geranium Road, in Parrottsville, named an offender who
pulled into the Parkway Inn at 766 Cosby Highway, in Newport, on Monday, Feb.
15. The offender allegedly jumped out of his truck, struck him in the back of
the head with a closed fist, dragged him by his shirt through the parking lot
to room 129, and would not let him leave the room until police arrived,
Patrolman Matthew Elliott reported. The incident happened about five minutes after
midnight.

Walton, 39, of Fifth Street, in Newport, said on Tuesday, Feb. 16, while at the
emergency room of Baptist Hospital of Cocke County, she told police a relative
earlier in the day started cursing her in her apartment and struck Walton in
the face with her fists, breaking her glasses and causing a cut across her
nose. Walton also said the relative made Walton fall down the steps off the
front porch, causing injury to her leg. The offender allegedly told Walton she
was not allowed to come back home, Patrolman William Garber reported.
Harassment/criminal

Thompson, 32, of Viewmont Circle, in Newport, said on Monday, Feb. 15, that a
woman came to her apartment, knocked repeatedly, and yelled for her to come to
the door. The offender then entered the apartment and accused Thompson of
stealing $200 cash from her apartment earlier that week, Patrolman Joshua
Veridal reported.
Theft of
medication

Herndon, 47, of an apartment on Appalachian Way, said two people visited her on
Sunday, Feb. 14. Herndon said she took a shower and after she got out, she
noticed an acquaintance of her boyfriend, Julius B. Allison, 28, of Clearwood
Road, was gone. The suspect was believed to have taken Herndon's Verizon Razor
cell phone worth $100, and three medications worth a total value of $87.60,
Patrolman Robby McMahan reported. Allison said that he left to go to Mapco,
leaving his niece's acquaintance alone, and when he returned he noticed his
medications were gone, which he valued at $114.50.
Attempted
passing of a stolen check
Police on
Monday, Feb. 15, were dispatched to Green Bank on the Cosby Highway, looking
for a subject in an older black Honda that allegedly attempted to pass a stolen
check. A bank employee said a customer named Homer Foster called her from Hot
Springs, N.C., to warn that a relative had stolen two checks from him and to
call Foster if he attempted to cash them. The employee called Foster and the
police. The suspect had a Tennessee photo ID and a stolen check, which he left
behind before police arrived. Foster told Patrolman Amy Elswick he did not know
if he wanted to charge the relative for the theft of two checks. The check was
made out to the suspect for the amount of $350, Elswick reported.
