SHERIFF'S REPORTS:

 

Violation of probation arrest

Ashley Green, 26, of 1656 Bullard Drive, in Newport, was arrested Saturday, Feb. 13, and charged with violation of probation, Deputy Sheriff Hollis Emmons reported. She was arrested along with Conrad Morales, a fugitive from justice with a drug charge in Louisiana.

 

Charged with domestic assault

Richard Braenter, 48, of 1030 Old Marshall Highway, was arrested Saturday, Feb. 13, and charged with domestic assault, Deputy Sheriff Robert Thornton reported.

 

Theft over $1,000

Glenn Edwards Edmonds, 31, of 438 Old Sevierville Highway, in Newport, was arrested Sunday, Feb. 14, and charged with theft over $1,000, Det. Bryan Murr reported.

 

Theft over $1,000

Scotty Walker, 31, of 1256 Fine St., in Newport, was arrested Sunday, Feb. 14, and charged with theft over $1,000, Det. Bryan Murr reported.

 

Violation of probation

Ronald C. Taylor, 28, of 1528 Askew Road and 975 Wright Road, was arrested this morning, Feb. 16, and charged with violation of probation, Deputy Sheriff Jason Oury reported.

 

Accident on Ground Hog Road

Thomas E. Keeton III, of Channel Point, in Knoxville, said he was driving a 2002 Dodge truck on Saturday, Feb. 13, at about 5 p.m., headed west on Ground Hog Road near Lindsey Gap, Deputy Sheriff Robert Thornton reported. Keeton said he was driving down a hill with snow and ice on it, slid off the left side of Ground Hog Road going into a culvert, and suffered front-end damage.

Arrested for disorderly conduct

Lanny W. Johnson, 45, of 320 Alex St., in Newport, was arrested Monday, Feb. 15, for disorderly conduct, Patrolman Billy Woody reported.

 

Several charges in arrest

Donald E. Busler, 24, of 717 Stewart Road, in Newport, was arrested Sunday, Feb. 14, and charged with no insurance, no registration, reckless driving, and speeding, Patrolman Billy Woody reported. Busler was allegedly driving 57 mph in a 40 mph zone.

 

Two drug charges in arrest

Natasha M. Swafford, 23, of 1042 Meeks Way, in Newport, was arrested Monday, Feb. 15, and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of drugs Schedule II (Roxicodone), Patrolman Matthew Elliott reported.

 

Violation of probation

Elizabeth N. Hurley, 23, of 450 Cambridge Drive. 6, in Newport, was arrested Saturday, Feb. 13, and charged with violation of probation, Patrolman Matthew Elliott reported.

 

Violation of probation

Larry J. Banks, 32, of 753 Fontana St., in Newport, was arrested Monday, Feb. 15, and charged with violation of probation, Patrolman Joshua Veridal reported.

 

Aggravated domestic assault

Donny R. Hall, 28, of 559 Travis Way, in Newport, was arrested Saturday, Feb. 13, and charged with aggravated domestic assault, Patrolman Robby McMahan reported.

 

Breaking and entering/theft of medication

Donald Roe, 55, of Myers Circle, in Newport, said on Monday, Feb. 15, that someone stole medication valued at $169, and a camping tent. Repairs to a damaged window and door to an outbuilding is valued at $300, for a total of $669, Patrolman Travis Gorrell reported.

 

Two assault charges in arrest

A 16-year-old juvenile on Upper Broad Street was arrested Sunday, Feb. 14, and charged with two counts of assault after the juvenile allegedly pushed her mom down and pinched a sibling in the chest, Patrolman Matt Franklin reported.

 

Driving on a revoked license

Jessica L. McNealy, 25, of 444 Viewmont Circle, in Newport, was arrested Saturday, Feb. 13, and charged with driving on a revoked license, Patrolman Billy Woody reported.

 

Charged with theft over $500

Cory J. Hostetler, 33, of 278 Beech Branch Road, in Gatlinburg, was arrested Saturday, Feb. 13, and charged with theft over $500, Patrolman Matthew Elliott reported. Hostetler allegedly tried to leave Walmart with a Dell Inspiron 19-inch touch screen laptop without paying for it. The computer is valued at $598.

 

Fugitive from justice

Conrad Morales, 28, of 260 Carson Springs Road, in Newport, was arrested Saturday, Feb. 13, and charged with being a fugitive from justice, Patrolman Matt Franklin reported. Morales was allegedly wanted out of Louisiana for dangerous drug charges. He was arrested at the Family Inns at 1311 West Highway 25/70, in Newport.

 

Vehicle/property damage

Michelle Vaughn Wright, 47, of Grove Road in Hermitage, Tenn., said she left her car parked overnight at the Mountain Crest Inn, where she stayed Sunday, Feb. 14. She said that on Monday, Feb. 15, she noticed damage to the rear and passenger's side of her vehicle, a 2006 Toyota Corolla. Construction workers fixing the roof of the Mountain Crest Inn said they had to pick up several pieces of 4 x 8 insulation board throughout the parking lot, where the wind had blown it, Patrolman William Garber reported. Damage to Wright's vehicle is estimated at $3,500.

 

Theft over $1,000

Albert Earle Spouse, 50, of Rumble Avenue, in Newport, said on Monday, Feb. 15, that someone cut the lock to his storage unit and stole a UST generator and a full size Torch set with tanks and miscellaneous tools for a total value of $1,800, Patrolman Thomas Whitfield reported.

 

Incident outside Ruby Tuesday's restaurant

Nicholas R. Mactavish, 24, of 20 mile Road, in Sandlake, MI, said that on Sunday, Feb. 14, he walked outside Ruby Tuesday's restaurant at 1005 Cosby Highway, in Newport, with two friends to smoke when a man walked outside and asked him for a light for his cigarette. The man then allegedly snatched the cigarette from Mactavish's mouth. Mactavish said he asked the man why he did that, and the man started to act like he was going to fight. Mactavish said the man hit him and his friend Byron Brown in their foreheads. Then the man got out a knife and allegedly said, "I am going to stab ya." A fight ensued between Hall and Brown. They began to roll on the ground. Mactavish said he saw the knife and ran back inside Ruby Tuesday's. Police got a call 20 minutes later at Blue Ridge Apartments concerning a stabbing involving the man. The man had a stab wound in the lower back. He told police he fell on a fishing pole, which he threw into a ditch. He was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital, according to a Newport Police Department report. The report also said Mactavish had "a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his person."

 

Purse stolen

Denna Robinson, 42, of Bat Harbor Road, in Newport, said that on Saturday, Feb. 13, at 9:10 p.m., she loaded items from a shopping cart at Walmart into her vehicle. She said her purse was in the shopping cart when she turned her back to the cart for two seconds to load items. Robinson said when she turned back around, the purse was gone. She said she had no idea who took it, Lt. Terry Lawson reported. The purse is valued at $65, a Verizon cell phone at $120, and an extra key to her vehicle ($150). $100 in cash was also stolen, she said.
