Cassie Williams, 24, of Rolen Way, in Sevierville, called
The Newport Plain Talk Wednesday about some errors in a crime news report
concerning an assault on her that was printed in the "From the Record" section
on page two in the Tuesday, Feb. 9 edition of the newspaper.
Williams said she
was assaulted Saturday, Feb. 6 (and not Monday, Feb. 8, as reported by The
Plain Talk), when she went to Buddy's Bar to pick up her boyfriend. She said a
man she named pushed her against a wall and choked her, forcing her to fall on
a fence that bruised her knee. Williams said the man threatened to kill her and
called her names. She said the man was drunk and she only retaliated by hitting
him over the head with an empty beer bottle after he first laid his hands on
her. "I wanted to get him away from me," Williams said.
She told the Plain Talk
she feared for her life and wanted to know how she could get protection for a
March 1 court appearance for the suspect that she was planning on attending.
The Newport Plain Talk regrets the errors.
