Lisa Faye
Ellison, 45, of 250 Orange Pride Road, in Newport, was arrested Wednesday, Feb.
10, and charged with domestic assault, assault, and resisting arrest, Deputy
Sheriff Joseph Owings reported.
Driving
with a revoked license 5th offense
Dwayne
Walker, 40, of 182 Northridge Drive, in Parrottsville, was arrested Wednesday,
Feb. 10, and charged with driving with a revoked license 5th
offense, and violation of probation, Deputy Sheriff Steve Johnson reported.
Walker was allegedly spotted driving a 1990 Honda on the Cosby Highway.
Accident on
McGaha Chapel Road
Corry W.
Shropshire, 21, of 3220 Boomer Way, in Cosby, was in an accident in a 1994 Ford
EPR on Wednesday, Feb. 10, on McGaha Chapel Road at Bogard Road, Deputy Sheriff
C.J. Ball reported.
Accident on
Rocky Top Road
Ice on the
road was to blame for an accident in a curve on Rocky Top Road, on Sunday, Jan.
31, Sgt. David Crum reported. The road was apparently covered with snow and ice
at about 2:30 a.m. when Charles Chick Jr., 44, of Log Church Road, in Newport,
was driving a 1995 Ford F-150 pickup truck that collided with a 1999 Jeep Lim
driven by Brian J. Beretta, 16, of 990 Old Asheville Highway, in Newport.
Lack of
sleep blamed for accident
Robert L.
Clevenger, 41, of Lonesome Pine Road, in Bybee, said he was traveling north on
Buffalo Road at Highway 160, in a 2004 Chevy Blazer, on Wednesday, Feb. 10,
when he fell asleep and his vehicle left the left side of the road. Clevenger
reportedly received minor injuries and was transported by Allied EMS to Baptist
Hospital of Cocke County. Clevenger said he had been working a lot of hours and
had not had any sleep for a while, causing him to doze off while driving, Deputy
Sheriff C.J. Ball reported.
Hit and run
driver
Charles S.
Shell, 59, of Johnson Street, in Newport, said he was driving a 1994 Cadillac
Eldorado on New Cave Church Road, at Ample Way, on Saturday, Feb. 6, when he
saw a green older model pickup truck behind him. Shell said the pickup truck
driver kept speeding up his vehicle and then slowing down, staying within two
feet of the rear of his Cadillac. Shell said the back of his car started
sliding sideways, he turned the steering wheel to the right to try to straighten
up his path, and the truck rear-ended him. Shell said he went into a ditch on
the right side of the road, bounced up, went into a yard, and struck and
destroyed a dogwood tree, Deputy Sheriff David Crowder reported.
Theft from
mailbox reported
Naoma Seay,
87, of South 107 Highway, said on Tuesday, Feb. 9, that she put a check in an
envelope for $8.80 to purchase stamps from the U.S. Post office. She later
found the envelope on the ground and the check was gone, Deputy Sheriff Robert
Thornton reported.
Child
abducted, then returned
The mother
of a three-year-old said her ex-boyfriend grabbed her child and ran to his
truck, telling the mother he had a gun under his seat and to not stop him from
leaving, Deputy Sheriff Randall Hartsell reported. The child was later found
and returned to his mother. Prior to the kidnapping, the ex-boyfriend and the
mother had a fight that led to the man pulling a knife on the mother and
telling her if she got close to him, he would kill her.

Fraud theft
Celia D.
Pruitt, 26, of Carpenter Road, in Parrottsville, said she last saw her bank
debit card when she used it on Sunday, Feb. 7, Capt. Ronnie Landers reported.
She said that on Feb. 8 and Feb. 9, someone without her authorization used her
card to make purchases at Shop At Home Jewelry Network ($196.64 and $10.93, at
Westtown Florist in Greeneville ($43.90), and made other charges of $66.22 and
$99.54. The Jewelry Network gave Pruitt the shipping address the items were
sent to, of 421 8th Street, in Newport.
Theft under
$500
Lisa
Northern, 31, of Bicentennial Way, in Newport, said on Monday, Feb. 8, that
several items were missing from her apartment: a good stamp card (with $348 on
it), one carton of cigarettes ($30), a spotlight ($25), and medication ($60),
Patrolman Billy Woody reported.
Fraudulent
check
Sandra
Walton, 39, of 6th Street, in Newport, allegedly tried recently to
cash a fraudulent Bank of America check for $3,650 from RBC Financial,
Patrolman Robby McMahan reported. Bank of America allegedly said a check number
never existed for that amount, but it did for $14 that was paid on Oct. 29,
2009.
