SHERIFF'S REPORTS:

 

Charges of vandalism, violation of probation

Chris Shelton, 33, of 2430 Park View Ave., in Knoxville, was arrested Sunday, Feb. 7, in Hamblen County, and charged with vandalism and violation of probation out of Cocke County Sessions Court, Deputy Sheriff David Parton reported.

 

Violation of probation

Celia Lashea Rodriguez, 23, of 1204 Fine St., in Newport, was arrested Monday, Feb. 8, and charged with violation of probation, Deputy Sheriffs Hollis Emmons and Tony Bailey reported.

 

Charged with domestic assault

Grady Edwin Calmes, 41, of 444 Eastern Plaza Way, in Newport, was arrested Sunday, Feb. 7, and charged with domestic assault, Sgt. Ricky Holt reported.

 

Violation of probation charge and arrest

Randall Brown, 34, of 615 Carmach Road, was arrested recently and charged with violation of probation, Constable Danny Hartsell reported.

 

V.O.P., capias, and failure to appear

Gary G.A. Morris, 40, of 427 Cosby, Apt. 2, in Newport, was arrested Monday, Feb. 8, and charged with violation of probation out of Jefferson County Circuit Court, failure to appear out of Cocke County Sessions Court, and a capias out of Cocke County, Deputy Sheriff Derrick Webb reported.

 

Charged with driving with a revoked license

Tabatha Ann Seay, 30, of 272 Robert E. Lee Drive, was arrested Sunday, Feb. 7, and charged with driving with a revoked license, Deputy Sheriff Steve Johnson reported.

 

Failure to appear/capias charge

Nathan Chad Adams, 23, of 3486 White Birch Road, in White Pine, was arrested Wednesday, Feb. 3, and charged with failure to appear/capias, Deputy Sheriffs Hollis Emmons and Robert Thornton reported.

 

Pickup truck reported stolen

Sherry Jarnigan, 50, of Friendship Road, told Lt. Rick Laws that on Sunday, Feb. 7, someone stole her 1984 Ford F-150 pickup truck from her driveway.

 

Officers' investigation

Shawn Gannon, 50, of Old River Road, in Del Rio, said that on Feb. 3, a truck came down Old River Road and, in front of Gannon's home, spun his tires and yelled at him. The offender then went down from Gannon's home and fired four shots, startling Gannon's horses. Police recovered four shells from a 16-gauge shotgun from the road, Deputy Sheriff Robert Thornton reported.

 

Vehicle break-in reported

Randall Lindsey, 52, of Old Kentucky Road, in Morristown, said that on Feb. 3, he was at A.J.'s Bar on Highway 25E, returned to his 2010 Nissan XCS and noticed someone had broken into his truck, Deputy Sheriff Robert Thornton reported. Lindsey said the theft took a CD player valued at $500.

 

Assault alleged

Cassie Williams, 24, of Roland Way, in Sevierville, said that on Monday, Feb. 8, stated that she went to Buddy's Bar to pick up her boyfriend when an acquaintance came up to her, calling her names, grabbing her, and then trying to push her down. Williams said she retaliated by grabbing an empty beer bottle and hitting him over the head, Deputy Sheriff Tony Bailey reported.

 

Theft reported

William Anthony Stepp, 45, of Stepp Road, in Bybee, said that sometime between Friday, Feb. 5, through Sunday, Feb. 7, someone took the following items, and other items, from his home: a Craftsman pressure washer (valued at $300), a Craftsman riding mower ($1,500), a generator ($700), and a steel chainsaw ($445), for a total of $3,548, Deputy Sheriff Randy Cutshaw reported.

 

Vandalism, aggravated burglary, and theft

Jason Smelcer, 29, of Industrial Road, said that on Friday, Feb. 5, someone broke into his home and damaged or destroyed several items. He named suspects he said he has had "an ongoing disagreement," Deputy Sheriff Jason Oury reported. Reported stolen were a 37-inch Vizio LCD TV ($1,200), a Phillips boom box ($300), and a PlayStation 3 with controller and cable ($500). Damage to the front door was estimated at $475.

 

Vandalism, aggravated burglary

Jessica Frazier, 24, of Cane Way, in Cosby, said that on Friday, Feb. 5, someone broke into her home, causing damage to a wooden door and frame, which she valued at $300, Deputy Sheriff Jason Oury reported.

 

Identity theft reported

Brittany Parks, 18, of Woodlawn Avenue, in Newport, said on Wednesday, Feb. 3, that a suspect had used her name to get service from Charter Communication without her permission, Deputy Sheriff Tony Bailey reported. The bill was for $190.36.

 

Theft reported

William Penn, 50, of Carson Springs Road, in Newport, said someone stole the tailgate from his pickup truck on Sunday, Feb. 7, Deputy Sheriff Hollis Emmons reported. It is valued at $750.

 

Identity theft reported

Melanie Holt, 32, of Sprouse Lane, in Newport, alleged on Monday, Feb. 8, that someone took her debit card and used it online without Holt's permission to make a payment to Direct TV for the months of January and February. Holt has filed three identity theft reports, Deputy Sheriff Tony Bailey reported. Holt named a suspect. The amount charged was a total of $1,411, the report stated.

 

Theft reported

Brian Earl Graham, 29, of Travis Way, in Newport, said that on Friday, Feb. 5, an acquaintance stole several items from his home, Lt. Rick Laws reported. Graham reported as stolen a Compac laptop computer (valued at $1,500), various articles of men's clothing ($700), a silver necklace ($150), and a 12-volt car battery ($70).

 

Accident on Highway 25/70

Benjamin H. Laguna, 22, of Pope Road, in Morristown, said he was traveling east on Highway 25/70 in a 2001 Ford F15 pickup truck, on Saturday, Feb. 6, Sgt. David Crum reported. After crossing the Wolf Creek Bridge, Laguna said he lost control of his vehicle in a curve, left the road, and overturned.

 

Accident on Joe Reed Road

Logan B. Foust, 17, of Alvey Hill Road, in Dandridge, was traveling west on Sunday, Feb. 7, at about 6:20 a.m., in a 1995 GMC Yukon SUV, on Joe Reed Road at Marshall Drive when a deer allegedly crossed his path, causing him to strike the deer. Foust said the front of his SUV was damaged and that after the accident, he drove his vehicle to a friend's home, Deputy Sheriff Travis Webb reported.

 

POLICE REPORTS

 

Phone harassment

Roger Ashworth, of Hill Top Mission, at 178 West Main Street, was arrested on Sunday, Feb. 7, and charged with phone harassment, Patrolman Amy Elswick reported.

 

Theft under $500 charge and arrest

Jason W. Huff, 32, of 266 English Mountain Road, in Newport, was arrested on Monday, Feb. 8, and charged with theft under $500, Patrolman Matt Franklin reported.

 

Theft under $500 and public intoxication

Montanna Boyer, 25, of 540 West Turner Ridge Road, in Newport, was arrested on Sunday, Feb. 7, and charged with theft under $500 and public intoxication, Patrolman William Garber reported. Boyer was allegedly arrested at Brock's Market & Deli on East Broadway for attempting to leave the store without paying for two Goody Powders.

 

Theft under $500 reported

Stacy Jones, 34, of Big Creek Road, in Hartford, said on Monday, Feb. 8, that she left her pocketbook at Food City West at 416 Eastern Plaza Shopping Center. Jones said that when she returned to the store to retrieve it from a garbage can in a restroom, she found the following missing: $30 in cash, two credit cards, a food stamp card, and medication, with a total value of $248, Patrolman Robby McMahan reported.

 

Phone harassment

Rita Evans, 60, of Suncrest Way, in Newport, said on Monday, Feb. 8, that a suspect called her and screamed and cussed at her and told Evans she would kill her for evicting her daughter out of her apartment, Patrolman Donald Coakley reported.

 

Suspected child abuse

A five-year-old girl said on Saturday, Feb. 6, she was physically abused by her father while staying at his home earlier this month. The girl was taken to the emergency room because of pain, Patrolman Amy Elswick reported.

 

Theft under $500

Stacie Fine, 31, of Mims Avenue, in Newport, said that sometime between Feb. 2 and Feb. 6, she gave the PIN number to her bank account to an acquaintance to withdraw $300 and put into the person's account. Later, the acquaintance asked to borrow $500, and Fine said that was okay, Patrolman Donald Coakley reported. On Sunday, Feb. 7, Fine said she called her bank and found the acquaintance had taken $20 more than she was supposed to. Fine also said her statement showed the acquaintance made four additional withdrawals without Fine's permission.

 

Vandalism alleged

Eric Phillips, 20, of Linden Street, in Newport, said on Saturday, Feb. 6, that sometime between Feb. 3 and Feb. 6, someone scratched the entire passenger side of his 2000 Chevrolet Impala. Damage was estimated to be $1,000. Phillips named a suspect, Patrolman Joshua Veridal reported.

 

Attempted burglary/vandalism

Paul and Wendy Gagne, of Rankin Road, said their home was vandalized on Jan. 25, Patrolman Amy Elswick reported. Wendy Gagne said she discovered eight windows had been tampered with, and eight screens had been cut and destroyed. At the same time Gagnes' home was burglarized, a home near them was also burglarized. In that case, the screens to windows were cut in the same pattern as those screens in the Gagnes' home. Damages are valued at $700.

 

Recovery of a stolen vehicle

Police were called to Family Dollar General on Monday, Feb. 8. The manager said a vehicle had been sitting in the parking lot since late Friday night, Feb. 5. Patrolman Matt Franklin said the PIN number of the vehicle was retrieved, and it came back registered to Wallace Blackwell in Asheville, N.C.

 

Phone harassment alleged

Connie Sims, 42, of an apartment on Appalachian Way, in Newport, said on Monday, Feb. 7, that an acquaintance had been beating on her apartment windows trying to break them and come in on her. Sims also said the suspect had been r3epeatedly calling her home and cell phone, making threats. Sims said the offender had called approximately 35 times on Feb. 7 alone, Patrolman Amy Elswick reporter. Elswick said she listened to the messages and heard several threatening ones by the suspect.

 

Harassment alleged

Jeannie James said that from Saturday, Feb. 6, at 9:07 p.m., to 10:30 p.m., an acquaintance had made several private calls and calls from his phone, threatening to shoot her and kill her, Patrolman Joshua Veridal reported. James said she had an order of protection on the person prior to the incident but central dispatch did not find an active order of protection at the time of the incident, Veridal stated.

 

Hit and run accident

Ben Stokley, of Rankin Hill Road, in Newport, said on Thursday, Feb. 4, that she parked her vehicle in front of Dollar General on Cosby Highway and her vehicle was fine then. She said, however, that when she returned to her vehicle one-half hour later, after shopping, she saw evidence that someone had hit the driver side rear of the car and then left the scene before police arrived, Patrolman Donald Coakley reporter. Stokley's car is a 2006 Chrysler 300.

 

Accident at Walmart parking lot

Two vehicles backing out of parking spaces at Walmart, at 1075 Cosby Highway, on Monday, Feb. 8, struck each other. Both vehicles suffered minor damage. The Newport Police Department report said that William A. Sutton, 85, of Greasy Cove Road, in Cosby, was the driver of a 2001 Toyota Camry LX; and Corey B. Swagerty, 16, of Mineral Street, in Newport, drove a 1993 Chevrolet Geo Prizm.
