High winds Friday resulted in power outages yet again for
Cocke County citizens.
According to Jimmy Robertson, NU Electrical Department
Manager, initial outages began around 5 a.m. Friday in the Edwina and
Bridgeport areas.
By 11 a.m. Friday, Grassy Fork and Hartford reported
outages which were traced to a tree falling on a power line.
Similar outages were later reported in the Hooper Hwy.,
Rocky Flats, Wiley Town, Pig Trot, Browns Chapel, Spicewood Flats, Wright Road,
and Chicken Hollow areas.
All available NU crews were dispatched by 1:30 Friday afternoon and additional line
crews arrived by 4 p.m.
According to Robertson, the majority of outages were
restored by 8 p.m. At 10 p.m. Friday evening, the crews continued working on
all but one of the remaining outages.
Broken poles and fallen trees were reported as the causes
of the outages.
