NEWPORT-Members of the Unity in the Community group laid
plans for 2010 during their meeting Thursday evening at City Hall.
The group continued their discussion of their 2009 Santa
Land celebration and toyed with the idea of expanding the event into two
nights. "The Partnership could take the parade and downtown area on
Thursday, and Unity could have Santa Land on Friday," said Stephanie
Justus.
Upcoming events for the group include Armed Forces Day on
May 15. This event will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Justus said,
"We will firm up this program during our February meeting."
Various fundraising possibilities and ways to draw more
people into their group were discussed.
The group agreed to ask Tim Dockery, Director of Newport
Parks and Recreation, to have the sign featuring names of local soldiers moved
from the Courthouse lawn to City Hall for repairs and additions.
