Theft allegedly occurred while victim slept

Evelyn S. Allen, 58, of Industrial Road, in Newport, told Sgt. David Crum that on Jan. 11, while she was asleep, two named suspects took her credit card and ATM card from her pants pocket. They also allegedly took her vehicle and made several purchases, including: a $49.83 purchase at Citgo on West Broadway; a $36.93 purchase at Food City West for cigarettes; a $222 purchase at Western Union; and a purchase at a Sonic Drive-in. One of the acquaintances also took a Sony digital camera. They brought the car back to Allen's home and put the cards back in her pants pocket before she woke up. However, on Jan. 12, when Allen tried to use her debit card and it was declined, she checked her account and discovered all the charges made the previous day while she was asleep.

 

Vandalism alleged

Jessie Ray Bailey, 55, of Midnight Way in Parrottsville, said on Friday, Jan. 29, that an acquaintance has been coming to his home and driving through his yard, doing damage to it, Sgt. Tony Whitten reported.

 

Pocketbook reported lost

Dolly Wallace, 61, of Noel Drive, in Gatlinburg, said she stopped at the Dollar General Store in Cosby on Thursday, Jan. 28, and accidentally left her bag on a counter and left. When she returned, the bag was gone. She told Sgt. David Crum that she cancelled all credit card and bank cards.

 

Arrested for violation of probation

Michael Lee Buckner, 29, of 4591 Haire Road, in Hartford, was arrested Thursday, Jan. 28, and charged with violation of probation, Deputy Sheriff David Crowder reported.

 

Arrested for aggravated assault, violation of probation

Todd Olden, 24, of Masterfield Road, in Newport, was arrested Tuesday, Jan. 26, and charged with aggravated assault and violation of probation, Deputy Sheriff Randall Hartsell reported.

 

Chainsaw stolen from carport

Floyd Combs, 40, of Highway 321, in Parrottsville, said that on Wednesday, Jan. 27, or Thursday, Jan. 28, someone stole his burnt orange Husqvarna chainsaw that was in his carport, Sgt. David Crum reported. The chainsaw was valued at $400.

 

POLICE REPORTS

 

Alleged theft of medication

Amanda Caughron, 28, of White Oak Street, in Newport, said that on Friday, Jan. 29, someone stole her medication that she valued at $14. Caughron named a suspect who was left alone at her home while she was gone, Lt. Terry Lawson reported.

 

Accident at the Eastern Plaza

William Ray Wills, 48, of Linden Ave., in Greeneville, was traveling east in a 2007 Ford Fusion through the parking lot at the Eastern Plaza at Empire Street, on Thursday, Jan. 28, Sgt. David R. Smith reported. Charles E. Click, 44, of Log Church Road, in Newport, was in a 2000 Ford Explorer in a parking space. Click allegedly attempted to back out from his parked position and struck the right side of Wills in his Ford Fusion. Click's vehicle suffered "functional damage" to the rear end, worth greater than $400.

 

Accident on Jefferson Avenue

Teresa Jo Martain, 47, of Jefferson Avenue, in Newport, said she was backing her 2000 Chevrolet Astro out of her driveway onto Jefferson Avenue at Mulberry Avenue, on Friday, Jan. 29, Patrolman Donald Coakley Jr. reported.

Martain said she did not see Terry E. Stewart, 62, of Jaybird Road, in Newport, in a 1998 Pontiac Bonneville until she hit him in the front end. Stewart said he was traveling north on Jefferson Avenue at Mulberry Avenue when Martain in the Chevrolet struck Stewart in his Pontiac in the front end. Martain's Chevrolet suffered minor damage to the rear end, of a value less than $400.

 

Accident on East Broadway at Lincoln Avenue

Gloria Miller, 67, of Fairfield Drive, in Newport, said she was going south in a 1991 Buick Century on Thursday, Jan. 28, through the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Highway 25/70, when a stoplight was green for her to go. Miller said Willie M. Black, 80, of Fairfield Drive, in Newport, allegedly ran a red stoplight and struck Miller's Buick in the driver's rear tire, causing minor damage. Black was driving a 1998 Buick LeSabre, Patrolman Travis Gorrell reported. Black said she thought the stoplight was green before striking the Buick.

 

Accident on East Broadway

Eliseo Fuentes, 30, of College Street, in Newport, said he was attempting to park his 1998 Isuzu Amigo in his driveway on College Street when his vehicle's brakes and steering capability stopped functioning at the same time, Patrolman Josh Veridal reported. Fuentes said he traveled down a large embankment that connected from his driveway to East Broadway. His vehicle came to a rest on its top in the eastbound lane of East Broadway. The vehicle suffered disabling damage to the front end valued at over $400. Fuentes did not have a license.

 

Accident on Cosby Highway

Brittnie D. Buell, 22, of Joe Hall Road, in Morristown, said she was coming to a stop at the traffic stoplight on Highway 321 at Highway 25/70, in a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix, on Tuesday, Jan. 26, Patrolman Donald Coakley Jr. reported. Buell said she did not realize how close to a 2007 Nissan she was, and bumped the vehicle driven by Nancy M. Raines, 58, of Forest Hill Drive, in Parrottsville, in the rear end. Raines said she was stopped at the traffic stoplight on Highway 321 at Highway 25/70 when Buell's Pontiac hit Raines' Nissan in the rear end.
