Arrested for failure to appear
Larry Haynes, 27, of 930 French Mill Road, in Dandridge,
was arrested Monday, Jan. 18, and charged with failure to appear, Deputy
Sheriff David Crowder reported.
Charged with public intoxication
Kenneth McCleese, 54, of 1550 Buck Ridge Way, in
Parrottsville, was arrested Saturday, Jan. 16, and charged with public
intoxication, Sgt. Armando Fontes reported. McCleese was allegedly involved in
a single vehicle accident on Shenandoah Road. Charges of DUI are pending,
according to Fontes' report.
Arrested for DUI 2nd offense
Calvin Naylor, 37, of 4645 Hooper Highway, in Cosby, was
arrested Monday, Jan. 18, and charged with DUI 2nd offense. A warrant for his
arrest was issued based on a wreck on Highway 321 on Oct. 9 that Naylor was
allegedly involved with, Deputy Sheriff Robert Thornton reported.
Failure to appear charge and arrest
Conrad Morales, 28, of 290 Carson Springs Road, was
arrested Friday, Jan. 15, for a capias (failure to appear) in Circuit Court on
Dec. 14, Deputy Sheriff Randall Hartsell reported.
Violation of a restraining order alleged
Tracy Reece, 32, of Bogard Road, said an acquaintance
came to her house on Saturday, Jan. 16, in violation of a restraining order,
Deputy Sheriff Robert Thornton reported.
Harassment and threats alleged
Tiffany Phelps, 20, and Jeremy Sherrill, 23, of Franklin
Road, on Saturday, Jan. 16, named a suspect they said had placed threatening
phone calls and text messages on Jan. 15 and Jan. 16, Deputy Sheriff Tony Bailey
reported.
Theft reported
Karen James, 40, of Carson Springs Road, said that
sometime between Thursday, Jan. 14, and Monday, Jan. 18, someone stole a book
of her checks from her home, Lt. Rick Laws reported.
Vandalism reported
Easter Marie Lewis, 21, of Irish Cutt Road, in Newport,
named a suspect she believes put sugar into the gas tank of her 1993 Ford
Taurus, doing damage to the motor, Lt. Rick Laws reported.
Telephone harassment alleged
Leticia Odell, 47, of Bat Harbor Road, in Newport, named
someone she said phoned and harassed her on Monday, Jan. 18, Lt. Rick Laws.
Odell said that the suspect has harassed and threatened her off and on for the
last 23 years.
Aggravated burglary reported
Cameron Netherland, 21, of Lower Bogard, said when he
returned home on Saturday, Jan. 16, he discovered his back door had been pried
open and his house had been "trashed (and) everything had been" gone
through, Deputy Sheriff Robert Thornton reported.
Theft and vandalism reported
Michael D. Reese, 40, of Duan Way in Del Rio, said that
on Saturday, Jan. 16, someone slashed the four tires on his 2000 Chevrolet
pickup truck and stole $180 from the vehicle's console, Deputy Sheriff Joseph
Owings reported. The four Goodyear tires are valued at $800.
Aggravated burglary reported
Jennifer Williams, 39, of Applewood Way, said she
returned home on Friday, Jan. 15, and discovered someone entered her home
through the bedroom window and stole some unspecified amount of change, Det.
Bryan Murr reported. Douglas Aaron Shropshire, 19, of 148 Walnut Ridge Way, in
Newport, was subsequently arrested and charged with aggravated burglary and
theft under $500, Murr reported.
Theft reported
Steve Blanchard, 48, of East Highway 25/70, in Newport,
said someone came onto his property on Sunday, Jan. 17, and stole a boat paddle
and life jackets worth $150 from his storage shed, Det. Bryan Murr reported.
Jeffrey Glyn McCoy, 36, of R.C. Matthews Road, in Humbolt, was arrested in
connection with the crime and charged with theft under $500 and criminal
trespassing, Murr reported.
Dog reported lost or stolen
Chelsea Lovell, 21, of Bogard Road, said her dog, a brown
female with white on its face, was last seen at her residence before she went
to bed on Saturday, Jan. 16. Lovell said when she went outside to check on her
dog on Sunday, Jan. 17, she noticed her dog was missing. She said she found the
dog's collar, Deputy Sheriff Randall Hartsell reported. The dog is valued at
$800.
Four-wheeler reported stolen
Sheena Jones Hartsell, 24, of Faithful Road, in
Parrottsville, said she learned on Monday, Jan. 18, that someone had stolen her
four-wheeler that had been at the home of a friend, Olivia Grace Evans, on
Splashaway Road, in Newport, Deputy Sheriff David Crowder reported. The Suzuki
4-wheeler is valued at $6,000.
Theft reported
Sabrina Martin, 20, of Mimosa Way, in Newport, said an
acquaintance, John Weidmann, looked out the window of the residence on Monday,
Jan. 18, and saw a man inside Martin's Honda Accord, who then fled in a silver
vehicle. Martin said she discovered a Pioneer CD player had been taken from her
vehicle. She also reportedly found her wallet laying on the ground with $50
missing from it. Total losses are estimated at $350, Deputy Sheriff Travis Webb
reported.
Theft under $500
Jack Shelton, of Battle Road, said someone stole a red
Murray riding mower parked behind his home, on Sunday, Jan. 17. The mower,
which is owned by Woodrow England, is valued at $200, Sgt. Eric Rinehart
reported.
Medication reported missing
Matilda James, 65, of Heather Way, said when she returned
home on Saturday, Jan. 16, she discovered her medicine was missing, Deputy
Sheriff Tony Bailey reported. The medicine is estimated at $509.
Theft and burglary
Steve Walton, 30, of Leaf Way, in Newport, said someone
broke into his home on Saturday, Jan. 16, and stole several electronic items,
Deputy Sheriff Derrick Webb reported. Items stolen included a Hewlett-Packard
computer with a flat screen monitor (valued at $400), a 46-inch Toshiba TV
($600), and an Xbox 360 ($350). The total value is $2,300.
Accident on Big Creek Road
Terry L. Towry, 47, of Howard Road, in Waxahachie, Texas,
said that on Friday, Jan. 15, they traveled in a semi and trailer onto Big
Creek Road from exit 447, started to turn around, and struck a guardrail,
Deputy Sheriff Tony Bailey reported. No damage to the guardrail was reported.
Hydroplaning results in accident
Sherman Brown, of Buckeye Drive, in Cosby, said he was
driving a 2002 Ford Focus on Lower Bogard Road, at South Highway 321, on Sunday,
Jan. 17, headed west, when he went around a curve and hydroplaned, slid off the
road going sideways, and down a hill to a creek, Deputy Sheriff Randall
Hartsell reported. Brown was not injured.
Accident on Carson Springs Road
Ricky Shelton, 38, of 155 Rocky Bluff Road, in Newport,
was traveling south on Carson Springs Road, on Tuesday, Jan. 12, when the tires
to his 2003 Jeep SUV fell of the road, Deputy Sheriff Derrick Webb reported.
Shelton said he overcorrected and stuck a guardrail on the northbound side of
the road. The vehicle then went through a ditch, struck a tree, then a parked
truck, and then overturned. The parked truck was pushed into another parked
vehicle several feet away. A chain link fence was also damaged in the accident.
The Jeep was reported stolen by its owner, Leslie D. Kelley, of Pikeview
Avenue, in Newport.
Accident on Highway 73
Kenneth Willis, 59, of Pappys Way, in Newport, said he
saw a 1998 Ford Ranger driven by George C. Lynch, 46, of Stagecoach Road, in
Whiteburg, cross the center line on Highway 73 at Sierra Road, on Saturday,
Jan. 16. Willis said he moved over as far as he could, but Lynch's 1998 Ford
Ranger struck Willis in his 1978 Lincoln Towncar. Willis had a possible injury
to his back, Deputy Sheriff Tony Bailey reported.
POLICE REPORTS
Arrested for allegedly stealing from two churches
John T. Shehee, 21, of 463 Rankin Road, in Newport, was
arrested Friday, Jan 15, and charged twice for theft over $1,000, Capt. James
Holt reported. Officers went to Shehee's home with two active warrants for
theft over $1,000. Police were led to believe Shehee was involved in the theft
of two guitars, an amplifier, and a laptop computer from Victory Baptist
Church, which was reported Dec. 12, for a total value of $1,935. A Dec. 13 report
was done on Dec. 13 for five guitars, a Pevey amplifier, and three guitar
stands, from Greggs Chapel Church, for a total value of $4,605. The report
stated that on Dec. 14, Shehee returned some of the missing items.
Arrested for allegedly pretending to be a policeman
Destry E. Young, 41, of 607 Manor View Drive, in
Knoxville, was arrested Friday, Jan. 15, after Det. Ramsey and Det. Hopkins
called Young to the Newport Police Department to interview him. Young allegedly
admitted to telling people he was a law enforcement officer, even though he had
never been employed as such. He also admitted to carrying a firearm without a
permit, according to the police department report. Young was charged with four
counts of criminal impersonation and two counts of carrying a weapon.
Arrest outside The Sidewalk Bar on Woodlawn Avenue
Michael B. Munyan, 42, of 471 Peanut Road, in
Parrottsville, was arrested on Sunday, Jan. 17, and charged with disorderly
conduct and simple possession VI (marijuana), Capt. James Holt reported. Munyan
was arrested at 1:30 a.m. outside The Sidewalk Bar, at 119 Woodlawn Avenue.
Driving on suspended license, other charge
Jonathan C. Bateman, 23, of 14901 Lejeune Lane, in
Sarasota, Fla., was arrested Saturday, Jan. 16, and charged with driving on a
suspended license and criminal impersonation, Patrolman Billy Woody reported.
Officers allegedly checked Bateman's driver's license and found it to be
suspended in New Jersey for failure to satisfy a citation.
Arrested for public intoxication
Deborah A. Godsey, 43, of 3915 Thomas Cross Road, in
Sevierville, was arrested on Monday, Jan. 18, at 12:45 a.m. and charged with
public intoxication, Patrolman Matthew Elliott reported.
Breaking and entering/theft of property
Jennifer A. Walker, 30, of Terrace Way, in Newport, told
Capt. Brad Ball that when she returned home on Monday, Jan. 18, she found a
broken window in the living room (valued at $100), a filing cabinet that was
damaged when pried open (valued at $60), and a kitchen microwave was missing
($200).
Vandalism under $500
Stacey Kelley, 32, of Hidden Estates, in Newport, said
that on Monday, Jan. 18, when she returned to her vehicle parked at 112 Newport
Town Center (Rent A Center), she discovered someone had "keyed" the
hood of her 2005 Nissan Maxima. Kelley named a possible suspect, Capt. Scott
Lamb reported. The damage is valued at $450.
Breaking and entering, theft, and vandalism
John Dorsey, 28, of Treece Way, in Newport, said that on
Sunday, Jan. 17, when he returned home, he found a broken window and the
following items missing: a CD player ($1,000), pool stick ($800), amplifier
($500), and miscellaneous frozen food ($100), Patrolman Robby McMahan reported.
The broken window is valued at $100, for a total value of damage and stolen items
of $2,700.
Theft reported
April Lankford, 22, of Marshall Hall Drive, in Bybee,
said on Sunday, Jan. 17, that she left her cell phone in the restroom of the
Cracker Barrel restaurant at 1021 Cosby Highway, and when she returned to get
it, it was gone. The phone is valued at $225, Capt. James Holt reported.
Theft under $500
Bell Richens of the Huddle House at 1130 West Highway
25/70, said that on Sunday, Jan. 10, someone stole a money bag with over $207
in cash and credit card receipts in it, Patrolman Donald Coakley reported.
Breaking and entering/theft over $500
Karen Willett, 37, of East Stagecoach Road, in
Greeneville, said that on Friday, Jan. 15, she discovered that her 1993
Chevrolet, which was parked at Walmart, had been entered and several items
stolen, including makeup (valued at $30), two sets of diamond earrings ($150
each), two sets of hoop earrings ($60 each), and a cooler ($30), for a total
value of $540, Patrolman Donald Coakley reported.
Burglary reported
Linda Allen, 47, of Greggs Lane, in Newport, said she
returned home on Monday, Jan. 11, and found stolen a pocket watch (valued at
$100), two pocket knives (each valued at $100), a lock box with birth
certificates and a Social Security card in it, a ring ($100), earrings ($100),
100 wheat pennies ($100), and other items, for a total value of $762, Capt.
Ronnie Landers reported.
Theft over $500
Jessica Ledford, 24, of 120 Touchdown Way, in Newport,
returned home on Sunday, Jan. 17, and found stolen from her 1997 Chevrolet SUV
the following: a HP laptop computer (valued at $700) and a Samsung radio ($20),
for a total value of $720, Patrolman Matthew Elliott reported.
Theft reported
Travis Cogburn, 31, of 645 Myers Circle, in Newport, said
that sometime between Saturday, Jan. 16 and Jan. 17, someone stole from his
home a 47-inch Vizio TV (valued at $1,200) and a Playstation 3 that belongs to
a friend, Patrolman Joshua Veridal reported.
Breaking and entering/theft
Jeff Gorrell, 45, of Bicentennial Way, in Newport, said
that some time between Thursday, Jan. 14, and Saturday, Jan. 16, two items were
stolen from his home: a nail gun (valued at $200) and a Rigid air compressor
($375). The damaged door and doorframe are valued at $330, Patrolman Joshua
Veridal reported.
Breaking and entering/theft
Doris Hurley, 50, of Terrace Way, said that on Friday,
Jan. 15, or Jan. 16, someone stole a 27-inch flat screen TV from her residence.
The back bedroom window was broken out and the screen removed. The TV was
valued at $475, and the broken window at $100, Patrolman Joshua Veridal
reported.
Accident in parking lot of Jabo's Pharmacy
Alan Stuart Abrams, 55, of Carson Springs Road, in
Newport, said he pulled his 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck in to park
next to a 1995 Chevrolet Camaro, on Friday, Jan. 15, and struck the Camaro's
driver's side front fender, Patrolman Joshua Veridal reported. The accident
occurred at Jabo's Pharmacy parking lot, at 602 East Broadway, in Newport.
