SHERIFF

 

Violation of probation X 2

 

Glenn A. Mantooth, 345 Prospect Avenue, Newport, 20, was charged with two counts of violation of probation, one from Cocke County Circuit Court and the other from Cocke County Sessions Court, by Deputy Derrick Webb on Thursday.

 

Mayes faces charges

 

Samson Mayes, 30, 944 Woody Lane, Dandridge, faces charges of assault, DUI (2nd offense) and driving on a revoked license after he was stopped by Dep. C. J. Ball on Judd's Lane on Friday. When stopped, Mayes was driving a 1994 Saturn, which had just been reported stolen by Shanea M. Dyer, 1655 Bullard Drive.

 

Multiple charges placed

 

Glenn Anthony Mantooth, 20, 345 Prospect Ave., Newport, faces multiple charges following his arrest by Det. Bryan Murr on Friday. Mantooth was charged with aggravated burglary and theft over $500 in connection with a break-in at the home of Claude and Helen Owens, 155 Irish Cutt Road, Newport, as well as vandalism and theft under $500 in connection with the vandalism of a vending machine and theft of products from it at the Coin Laundry, 861 W. Highway 25/70, Newport.

 

Hit and run

 

Paul Gibson, 2458 Denton Road, Cosby, reported his 2001 Jeep Cherokee struck on Wednesday to officers of the Cocke County Sheriff's Dept. Damage to Gibson's Jeep was confined to the driver's side door.

 

Numerous items taken from home

 

While Mike Renner and his family were away from their 1141 Netty Mountain Road, Del Rio residence on Thursday, someone entered the home and took several items with a combined value of nearly $20,000. According to Deputy Tony Bailey, intruders first attempted to enter the home through the front door, but after failing to do so, went to a side door and broke the door's glass to gain entry. Items taken included guns and jewelry.

 

Aggravated burglary/theft over $1,000

 

Mark Ramsey, 26, 344 Carson Springs Road, Newport, reported the aggravated burglary of his home on Friday to Deputy David Crowder. According to Crowder, someone broke a kitchen window to gain entrance to the home and took a Frigidaire dehumidifier, a Samsung DVD player, and a Magnavox converter.

 

Snowbound vehicle hit/robbed

 

Ember Elliott, 35635 East, Seminole, OK, told Lt. Rick Laws on Friday that while she operated her 2008 Dodge on Point Pleasant Road on Thursday, it slid off the roadway in the snow and hit a guard rail. Elliott said that she had to leave the vehicle. When she returned on Friday to tow the vehicle, she found that it had apparently been struck by another on the driver's side and knocked into the guardrail doing damage to it. Also, someone had apparently entered the Dodge and stolen the GPS system from it.

 

Minor damage to vehicles

 

On Wednesday, a 1994 Ford F-250 belonging to Jimmy Hefner, 1460 Ponderosa Road, Parrottsville, rolled down a driveway and across the yard and struck a 1998 Nissan Maxima belonging to Wendy D. Sparks, 1916 Old 15th Road, Hartford, doing minor damage to both vehicles, according to Dep. C. J. Ball.

 

Failed to appear

 

Patricia Gowan, 49, 4135 E. Highway 25/70, Del Rio, was charged with failure to appear by Deputy Hollis Emmons on Thursday.

 

Theft and vandalism

 

Deputy Timothy N. Snapp answered a call regarding theft and vandalism at the home of Eugene F. Sanderlin, 50, 107 Keystone Way, Newport, on Wednesday. According to Snapp, Sanderlin reported several pictures torn up and $700 in cash missing from his residence.

 

Icy road mishap

 

Deputy Brian Holt reported a one-vehicle mishap on Sweetwater Road near its intersection with Edwina Road (Highway 73) on Friday. According to Holt, Brian S. Shaver, 30, 1470 Arlis Road, Newport, driving a 2006 Ford F-250, was traveling westbound on Sweetwater Road when his vehicle lost traction on the ice-covered roadway, left the road, and came to rest on the driver's side in a creek.

 

Vehicles sideswipe

 

Two vehicles sideswiped one another on Tuesday as they passed one another on West Highway 107 near its intersection with Flat Rock Road. According to Deputy Brian Holt, Samantha L. Lowery, 28, 3055 Kenyon Road, Parrottsville, was driving a 2000 Pontiac, when she met Ted R. Hill, 52, 432 Highway 107-South, Del Rio, who was operating a 1992 Chevrolet. According to Holt, Lowery's vehicle crossed the centerline and sideswiped that of Hill. David L. Lowery, 35, was a passenger in the Lowery vehicle.

 

POLICE

 

Vandalism over $500

 

Stacy Kelley, 32, 124 Hidden Estates, Newport, reported damage to her 2005 Nissan Maxima to Patrolman Matthew Elliott on Wednesday. According to Elliott's report, the vehicle was keyed while Kelley was at work.

 

Counterfeit bill reported

 

Jeremy Reed, an employee of Ruby Tuesday, 1005 Cosby Highway, Newport, reported a $100 counterfeit bill to Patrol Officer Heather Lawson on Thursday.

 

Attempted theft & property damage

 

Mary Burger, 333 Tedder Drive, Newport, told Patrol Officer Heather Lawson on Thursday that someone had entered a storage building on her property and had also removed a plexiglass covering to the crawl space under her home. Nothing appears to have been taken.

 

Theft over $500

 

Destry Young, 41, 611 Honeybee Lane, Newport, reported the theft of an Xbox and a 1/3 carat diamond ring from his residence with a total combined value of $800 to Patrolman Justin Vinson on Friday.

 

Vandalism reported

 

Tommy Crawder, 537 Upper Broad Road, Newport, told Patrolman Matt Franklin that someone had egged his home on Friday.

 

Hit & run

 

Tonya Ailor, 44, 104 East Majestic Way, Newport, told Patrolman Travis Gorrell on Friday that a vehicle had struck her 2002 Chevrolet while she was inside Lowe's on Friday. Damage to the Ailor vehicle was limited to the rear bumper and a broken rear light.

 

Assault & harassment reported

 

Patrol Officer Joshua Veridal responded to a reported assault and harassment situation on Thursday in the Wal-Mart parking lot. According to Veridal's report, upon his arrival Crystal Dunn, 27, 178 Hilltop Drive, Newport, told him that her former husband had assaulted her boyfriend with his truck. She also said that she has an order of protection against her former spouse, but, according to Veridal, a check with authorities showed that the order had not been served.

 

Theft of medication

 

Aubrey Wilson, 67, 604 Runnion St., Newport, reported the theft of 45 pills taken from his bedside table to Patrol Officer Joshua Veridal on Thursday.

 

Breaking & entering

 

Lucas Allison, 22, 815 Seabrook Street, Newport, told Patrol Officer Joshua Veridal on Thursday that someone had opened the door to his vehicle and had also accessed a tool shed in his backyard on Thursday. Nothing was found to be missing.

 

Pedestrian struck by mirror

 

Patrol Officer Heather Lawson answered a call on Thursday to Wal-Mart parking lot regarding a report of a pedestrian having been struck by a vehicle. Upon her arrival, Lawson learned that Connie Williams, 39, 2008 English Fields, Newport had been struck between the shoulder blades by the review mirror of a vehicle parked next to her. Lawson stated in her report that Williams had started to remove a baby from a car seat behind the driver's side of her vehicle when the vehicle parked beside hers began to back up. As Williams handed the baby to its mother, she was struck. According to Lawson, the other driver stopped and asked Williams if she was "okay." Williams said that, at the time, she was in too much pain to answer and started walking to the store. The woman then drove away.

 

More missing medication

 

Chris Wines, no age given, 340 Tedder Drive, Newport, told Patrol Officer Heather Lawson on Thursday that someone entered his 1994 Chevrolet and took prescription medications from the console of his vehicle. Wines told Lawson that the medicines belonged to his grandmother and that he keeps them for her.

 

Public intoxication

 

Benjamin A. McCullough, 26, 827 Under Mountain Road, Cosby, was charged with public intoxication by Patrolman Billy Woody on Friday after he was found in the roadway at 579 Woodlawn Ave. in a highly intoxicated condition.
