POLICE

Theft under $500

C. T. Roberts, 40, 224 Woodlawn Avenue, Newport, reported a license plate was taken from his 1986 Toyota truck to Patrolman Robby McMahan on Saturday.

 

Suspect in theft

Darlene Cash, 43, 413 Briggs Avenue, Newport, told Patrol Officer Heather Lawson on Sunday that a US Cellular telephone was taken from her residence. There is a suspect in the theft.

 

Residence entered

A large jug of coins and a billfold were reported missing from the residence of Paul Gagne, 59, 455 Rankin Road, Newport, on Saturday. Patrolman Donald Coakley filed the report.

 

Residential burglary

Lisa Stepp, 46, 254 Old Cave Church Road, told Patrolman Matthew Elliott on Saturday that someone had pried open the back door to her residence and taken an Emerson 19-inch flat screen television, a .38 pistol, a Wii game system and 15 Wii games. Total value of the missing items, plus damage to the door, totaled $2256.

 

Fraud over $500

Danny Cooper, 47, 136 Transport Drive, Newport, told Captain Ronnie Landers on Saturday that someone had made four unauthorized transfers from his bank account. The missing money totals $757.00

 

Numerous charges placed

Ashley D. Huff, 22, 144 Fox and Hounds Way, Newport, faces several charges following her arrest by Patrolmen Matthew Elliott and Robby McMahan on Monday. Huff was reportedly found passed out at the wheel of a 2001 Honda Accord with the engine running. She was taken to Baptist Hospital of Cocke County for blood tests. She now faces charges of possession of an open container, DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of Schedule II and IV drugs.

 Missing cell phone

Frankie Fraley, 40, 361 Driskill Circle, Newport, reported her cell phone and case lost to Patrolman Allen Stump on Monday. According to Stump's report, Fraley said that her driver's license, EBT card, debit card, Tenn Care card, and a $100 bill were also in the case.

 

SHERIFF

Break-in reported

Jennifer Renee Adkins, 22, 420 Epley Road, reported the burglary of her home to Dep. Josh Hall on New Year's Day. According to Hall, Adkins said when she returned home, she found the front door pried open. Missing items included a television and a jar with $50 in change.

 

Items taken from residence 

Jerry Lynn Reese, 51, 1921 Fowlers Grove Road, Bybee, reported the theft of two bank cards and a cell phone from his residence to Dep. Hollis Emmons on New Year's Day. There is a suspect in the thefts.

 

Holiday home burglarized

Alice P. Marley, 80, 3656 Clapp Mill Rd., Burlington, N.C., reported the burglary of her holiday home, 3252 Bogard Road, Cosby, to Dep. Tony Bailey on New Year's Day. According to Bailey, missing items include a washing machine, RCA television, Gibson refrigerator and stove, lawn mower, pillows and blankets, a canister set, toaster, miscellaneous yard tools, and a saw, with a total estimated value of over $500. There is a suspect in the thefts.

 

Driver charged

James Harold Bledsoe, 46, 2309 Wonderland Way, White Pine, faces several charges following a traffic mishap on Old Sevierville Road on New Year's Eve. According to Dep. Steve Johnson, after the mishap, Bledsoe went to a residence at 1106 Wonder Road. When Johnson arrived there, he found Bledsoe lying on a bed and asking for medical attention. Bledsoe was then transported to Baptist Hospital of Cocke County for treatment of his injuries. Once at the hospital, Bledsoe was charged with first offense DUI, possession of Schedule VI drug, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

 

Overcorrection results in accident 

Sgt. Armando Fontes responded to a one-vehicle accident on Highway 25/70 on New Year's Day. According to Fontes, Austin Jennings Benedict, 17, 106 Ray's Loop, Newport, was traveling east when the 2001 Honda Civic he was operating, ran off the right shoulder of the roadway. When Benedict over-corrected, the car then traveled into a lawn and the across the road, down a 20-foot embankment, and struck a tree. According to Fontes, Benedict was not injured in the mishap.

 

Several charges filed 

Charles R. France, 52, 540 Overview Road, Newport, faces three charges following his arrest by Sgt. Armando Fontes on New Year's Day. According to Fontes, he noticed 1990 Ford operated by France "weaving excessively" on Highway 321. France was later charged with third offense DUI, possession of an open container of alcohol, and failure to maintain his lane of travel.

 

Television and jewelry taken in break-in

Linda Jeffers, 41, 100 Country View Way, Newport, reported the theft of a Samsung flat-screen plasma television from her residence to Dep. Brian Holt on Dec. 30. According to Holt's report, Jeffers said someone broke into her residence earlier in the day by prying open the front door and took the items.

 

Storage building robbed

Dep. Derrick Webb responded to a report of a storage building having been burglarized on Saturday. Upon his arrival, Anthony Mason, 2461 Good Hope Road, Parrottsville, said he had noticed the lock on the storage building had been cut and several items taken. Items valued at over $6,000 were reported taken.

 

Charges placed

On New Year's Day, Constable Danny Hartsell and Deputy Josh Hartsell stopped a vehicle after noticing it swerving across lines of traffic several times and narrowly avoiding a collision with another vehicle. Upon talking to the driver, identified as Randy J. Ramsey, 41, 240 Fox Run Trail, Danville, Ky., they found him to be in possession of a loaded .22 handgun which was in arm's reach of Ramsey. Further search of the vehicle yielded a bag of marijuana. Ramsey now faces charges of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and simple possession of marijuana.

 

Driving offense

On Sunday, Sgt. Armando Fontes stopped a Jeep Cherokee with a passenger-side headlight out after noticing it traveling north on Highway 321 near Cosby High School. The driver, David Grooms, 42, 108 Baxter Road, Cosby, was charged with third offense driving on a revoked license.

 

Domestic assault

On Sunday, Deputy Tony Bailey and Sgt. Tony Whitten charged Jonathan C. Hill, 21, 2702 Knob Creek Road, Bybee, and Ashley Kear, 23, 692 Joe Reed Road, Bybee, with domestic assault. According to their report, Hill and Kear are accused of striking Tiffany Lowery, no age or address given.

 

Medication theft

Debra James, 49, 2439 Stonewall Jackson Drive, Newport, reported the theft of medication from the glove box of her vehicle to Lt. Richard Caldwell on Saturday.

 

One charged in assault 

On Saturday, Dep. Randall Hartsell charged James Hall, 29, 3854 Big Creek Road, with domestic assault in connection with injuries suffered by Brandi Ford, 39, 111 Abnor Road. According to Hartsell, the incident occurred at the home of Abe and Jackie Hall, 2405 Denton Road.

 

Vandalism reported 

Terry Dawson, no age given, 105 Briar Thicket Road, reported a window in his residence had been broken and removed from his home and that a window in his pump house had been damaged to Deputy Derrick Webb on Saturday.

 

Failed attempt

On Saturday, Jackie Cureton, an employee of E-Z Stop Exxon, 1103 West Highway 25/70, reported that a couple attempted to purchase $5 in gasoline and a pack of cigarettes with a $100 bill. When Cureton scanned the bill and found it to be counterfeit, the couple left. Deputy Randall Hartsell filed the report.

 

Break-in on Saturday

James Cline, 49, 1005 Chicken Hollow Road, Newport, reported the burglary of his residence on Saturday to Deputy Tony Bailey. According to Bailey's report, Cline had left his home to cut some firewood when someone entered the residence through the back door. Several items were reported taken.

 

Stolen computer recovered

On Saturday, Kaye Ramsey, 839 W. Highway 25/70, Newport, reported the theft of a Gateway laptop computer and a Stylus pen from her residence to Deputy Hollis Emmons. According to Emmons' report, the computer was later recovered at a local pawnshop. Later Emmons arrested Misty Green, 32, 2272 Stone View Way, Cosby, at her home and charged her with theft over $1,000.

 

Vehicle entered 

Brandy Hancock, 105 Wind Spirit Way, Newport, reported her vehicle entered and money taken on Saturday to Deputy Hollis Emmons.

 

Nothing missing

On Saturday, Sgt. Armando Fontes responded to a report of a 2006 Chevrolet Montero, which had been entered while it was parked at Southland Tavern. Upon his arrival, the vehicle's owner, Jamie Welch, 497 Rankin Road, Newport, told him that the driver's side window had been broken and the center console opened, but nothing appeared to be missing.


Charges placed Monday 

Deputy Steve Johnson charged Richard Scott Grubb, 38, 4585 Hooper Hwy., Cosby with assault-domestic violence and assault on Monday. According to Johnson's report, he answered a call to the above address and was told that Grubb had assaulted his step-daughter after the two argued over a television.

 

Violation of parole

Joey Wade Hill, 28, 3741 Angle Way, Newport, was charged by Dep. Casey Reed on Monday with violation of parole out of Sessions Court.

 

Accident at road intersection

Deputy Brian Holt responded to a two-vehicle accident on Monday at the intersection of Rankin Road and Shellbark Road. According to Holt, the accident occurred when Melinda D. DeVille, 1001 Alla Circle, Newport, attempted to enter Rankin Road from Shellbark Road. Her 2004 Dodge Caravan struck a 1993 Ford F-15 operated by Angela M. Hembree, 35, 345 Woodson Road.
