NEWPORT-ConAgra Foods Inc. is making plans for a new
production line to be brought to the Newport location in the coming months.
The Fort Worth, TX, based company closed the Fort Worth
plant in November, which produced Ranch Style Beans and VanCamp Beans. The
production line for these beans is being brought to the Newport facility in
late January or February. The line is expected to begin production in April or
May.
Dave Jackson, a representative for ConAgra Foods Inc. in
Fort Worth, explained that this will not bring new jobs to this area at this
time, but it will give the Newport ConAgra the opportunity for more production
and growth.
"The company had the capacity in the Newport plant to
bring in this new line rather than making a much larger investment in the Fort
Worth facility," said Jackson.
The line will increase production to three million cases
of product, which equals eight to twelve cans per case. Construction for the
production line will take place inside the facility itself. According to
Jackson, the construction is mainly to add new equipment to the plant.
