SHERIFF'S REPORTS:
Charge of aggravated assault Terry Lynn Cureton, of 881 New Cave Church Road, in Newport, was arrested Tuesday, Dec. 22, and charged with aggravated assault, Deputy Sheriff Shawn Stepp reported.
Aggravated assault, vandalism Maureen N. Roach, 46, of 2234 Holt Town Road, in Newport, was arrested Tuesday, Dec. 22, and charged with aggravated assault and vandalism, Lt. Rick Laws and Deputy Sheriff Brian Holt reported.
Aggravated assault charged in arrest Robbie Evans, 30, of 115 Tree Road, in Cosby, was arrested Tuesday, Dec. 22, and charged with aggravated assault on Nov. 27 on Larry Gunter of Dawson Road, in Parrottsville, Det. Bryan Murr reported.
Break-in and burglary Marcie Williams, 38, of Blue Mill Road, in Del Rio, said her home was broken into on Thursday, Dec. 17, when she took her husband to a hospital for chest pain. Items stolen included $200 in cash, a bag of change with about $80 in it, a gold ankle bracelet ($260), and several other jewelry items, Sgt. Tony Whitten reported.
Chainsaw reported stolen Gordon Sexton, 60, of Blue Mill Road, in Del Rio, said someone stole a chainsaw from the back of his pickup truck on Wednesday, Dec. 23, Sgt. Tony Whitten reported. The orange chainsaw is valued at $300.
Burglary reported Aime Ray, 35, of Lane Road, in Cosby, said someone broke into her home on Wednesday, Dec. 23, and stole several items of jewelry that totaled $2,470, Deputy Sheriff Derrick Webb reported. Damage to a glass window frame and screen are valued at $500.
Armed robbery David Livingston, 29, of Grossfield Way, in Bybee, said that on Tuesday, Dec. 22, an acquaintance pulled out a hunting knife on him and robbed him of $140 in cash, Deputy Sheriff Steve Johnson reported.
Vehicle parked in snow struck by another vehicle Steve Wilbur, 40, of East Main Street, in Sevierville, parked a rental Ford Taurus on Saturday, Dec. 19, at Bell Hollow Road and Peaceful Retreat Way, due to snowy roads. When he returned, he noticed the vehicle had been struck by another vehicle, Deputy Sheriff David Parton reported.
Stolen vehicle theft over $1,000 William Travis Strickland, 19, of Highway 73, in Newport, said his roommate woke him up Tuesday, Dec. 22, at around 6:30 a.m. to inform him that his 1994 red Honda Civic, which he values at $4,400, had been stolen, Deputy Sheriff David Crowder reported.
Theft reported Christine Ramsey, 66, of Jasmine Drive, in Newport, said someone broke into her home on Friday, Dec. 18, and stole several items, include a Sears 22-inch push mower, valued at $325; one set of new bedding ($98), and a Bohling weed trimmer ($75), Sgt. David Crum reported.
Break-in reported Mary Forrester, of Highway 73, in Newport, of Mountain View Truck Stop Restaurant, said that on either Monday, Dec. 21, or the next morning, someone broke in the restaurant's office and stole $300-$400, Deputy Sheriff Timothy N. Snapp reported.
Aggravated domestic assault and vandalism Jeffrey B. Garrison, 68, of Holt Town Road, in Newport, said he was a victim of an aggravated assault on Tuesday, Dec. 22, at about 7:30 a.m. He said the aggressor started arguing with him, got his walking cane, and hit him about his body. The person also allegedly hit him in the head with a dasher from a wooden churn, hit him across the head with a large picture frame, knocked him across the couch, which knocked him out, and then broke the back glass out of his pickup truck with the dasher when Garrison tried to leave. Lt. Rick Laws said Garrison had cuts and bruises to the head and both hands.
Vandalism reported Ronnie Allen, an employee of Cocke County Convenience Center, at 1460 West Highway 25/70, in Newport, said someone took a four-wheeler and "tore up" the grounds in front of the center, Deputy Sheriff David Crowder reported. Damage to the property is estimated at $1,000.
Accident in parking lot of Bargain Barn On Tuesday, Dec. 22, at the parking lot of Newport Bargain Barn, Gloria J. Overholt, 65, of Holt Town Road, in Newport, was apparently backing from a parking place in the parking lot of the Newport Bargain Barn, when she backed into the rear end of a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer owned by Sharleen A. Williamson, 50, of Indian Creek Road, in Thorn Hill, which was parked behind Overholt and to the right, causing minor damage to both vehicles, Sgt. Eric Rinehart reported.
Accident on Highway 321 On Monday, Dec. 21, Carl Thomas, 71, of North Highway 340, in Parrottsville, was traveling south on Highway 321, in a 1999 Buick 2G4. Dale L. Gregg, 51, of Long Creek Road, in Greeneville, had been traveling north on Old Parrottsville Highway and was crossing the southbound lanes of Highway 321 to turn left onto the northbound lanes of Highway 321, when it pulled out into the path of the 1999 Buick. Thomas was unable to stop his Buick in time to avoid a collision and struck the side of a cattle trailer being pulled by the Dodge. The cattle trailer then spun around and struck the passenger's side rear fender of the Dodge, Deputy Sheriff Brian Holt reported. Gregg was charged with failure to yield the right of way at an intersection.
Hit and run accident on Indian Camp Creek Road David W. Ramsey, 38, of Indian Camp Creek Road, in Cosby, said he was traveling south on Indian Camp Creek Road in a 2005 Nissan Sentra and slowed to turn right into his driveway when he was hit from behind by a four-wheel drive black Ford Ranger pickup, Deputy Sheriff David Crowder. Ramsey said the driver of the Ford Ranger left the scene.
Accident in driveway Nease Lamar Woodson, of Walker Road, in Bybee, said he was driving a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck on Friday, Dec. 18, at about 6 p.m., through his front yard toward his driveway when he saw a 1992 Honda Accord driven by David Butler, 49, of Joe Reed Road, in Bybee, turn onto his driveway from Walker Road. Woodson said he tried to stop, but slid into a tree, damaging his passenger-side door. Butler agreed that Woodson was backing up when the accident happened, Deputy Sheriff David Crowder reported.
Accident on O'Neil Road Chad Gray, 33, of Edwina Bridgeport Road, in Newport, said he was traveling south on O'Neil Road in a 2001 Dodge Durango when he hit a large body of water in the road, at Highway 73, with the passenger side of his vehicle. He said that caused him to hydroplane, and the right side of the vehicle dropped off the road. He then slid into a tree, damaging the front end of the Dodge Durango, Deputy Sheriff Tony Bailey reported.
Accident on Pleasant Grove Road Lois M. Nix, 36, of Pleasant Grove Road, in Newport, was traveling south in a 1996 Ford Bronco, on Pleasant Grove Road, when, at Highway 73, on Tuesday, Dec. 22, her vehicle left the right side of the road, causing the Ford to roll down an embankment, and coming to a final rest on its top. Nix was cited into court for driving on a suspended license and financial responsibility, Deputy Sheriff C.J. Ball reported.
Accident on O'Neil Road at Better Road Michael E. McCoig, 19, of Point Pleasant Road, in Newport, was traveling south in a 2001 Pontiac, on O'Neil Road, on Tuesday, Dec. 22, negotiating a curve at Better Road, when his vehicle left the left side of the road and struck a guide wire that connected to a utility pole. The Pontiac came to a final rest after receiving moderate damage. The driver was not injured, Deputy Sheriff C.J. Ball reported.
Harassment, threats made James and Donna Brannon, 58 and 54, respectively, of Dogwood Stand Road, in Hartford, said they were harassed on Friday, Dec. 18, when they met the suspects traveling on Dogwood Stand Road, Deputy Sheriff Tony Bailey reported.
Accident on Gulf Road Waylon B. Arrowood, 31, of Hiwassee Street, in Newport, said he was driving down Gulf Road in a 2006 Chevrolet, with snow on the road, on Saturday, Dec.19, when something in the steering broke, sending the vehicle with Arrowood in it down an embankment, Sgt. Tony Whitten reported.
Two women in a fight Alicia Wright, 29, of Little Hollow Road, said that on Tuesday, Dec. 15, she got into a fight with another woman at her home, Deputy Sheriff Robert Thornton reported.
Four-wheeler reported stolen Mark Swann, 43, of Bird Way, said that his four-wheeler, a 2000 Honda, was stolen on Dec. 15 and valued at $1,800 Deputy Sheriff Randall Hartsell reported.
Vehicle stuck in driveway Roseanna Centers, 34, of Baysinger Road, in Newport, said she backed a 2009 Isuzu down a driveway, and ran off into a ditch line, on Tuesday, Dec. 15. The dirt around the ditch line was soft due to wet weather and thus caused deep tire impressions, Sgt. Armando Fontes reported.
Identity theft reported Clayton Norwood, of Mantooth Hills Road, in Newport, said someone fraudulently used a new Visa credit card he got in early December, on Dec. 7, Sgt. David Crum reported. The amount charged on the card was about $7,800, Sgt. David Crum reported.
POLICE REPORTS
Disorderly charge and arrest Misty J. Heitz, 19, of 557 Banjo Way, in Newport, was arrested on Wednesday, Dec. 23, at 11:55 p.m., and charged with disorderly conduct. Heitz was allegedly in the middle of Alex Street, screaming profanity, Patrolman Matthew Elliot reported.
Disorderly conduct Ricky L. Trouten, 21, of 438 Overlook Way, in Newport, was arrested Wednesday, Dec. 23, at 11:45 p.m., and charged with disorderly conduct. When allegedly advised that a playground was closed and he needed to leave, Trouten walked away from officers and screamed profanity very loudly, Patrolman Billy Woody reported.
Charged with criminal trespass and arrested Keith A. Wise, 46, of 2740 Knob Creek Road, in Bybee, was arrested this morning (Dec. 24) at 01:50, at 112 Touchdown Way, in Newport, and charged with criminal trespass. Homeowner Dwayne Keller said Wise had been asked to leave his property several times, but refused to leave, Patrolman Matthew Elliott reported.
Accident at Post Office parking lot Phyllis A. Crum, 60, of Piney Mountain Road, in Newport, said that, on Wednesday, Dec. 23, she backed out her 2004 Mazda SUV from a parking space at the U.S. Post Office parking lot, and collided with a 1998 Subaru Legacy, driven by Shana V. Hamilton-Lockwood, Patrolman Heather Lawson reported.
Accident at Eastern Plaza Shopping Center Mary F. Holland, 74, of Browns Chapel Road, in Parrottsville, said she was backing a 1997 Buick LeSabre out of its parking space at the Eastern Plaza Shopping Center in Newport, on Wednesday, Dec. 23, began to move forward, and felt a bump from another vehicle, Patrolman Joshua Veridal reported. Jennifer West, 26, of Lucia Street, in Newport, said she backed out of a parking space with her 2005 Toyota Camry and felt the two vehicles strike each other.
Accident at Walgreens Sue Ann Tracey, 43, of 4224 M 66 SW, in Kalkaska, Mich., said she was sitting in her 2008 Chevy Silverado, at the Walgreens Drive-thru, at 102 East Broadway, on Wednesday, Dec. 23, at 5:10 p.m. The clerk allegedly advised her they were having problems with her insurance and to back up her vehicle and pull over to the side. Tracey said she did not see the 2008 Nissan Sentra, driven by Amanda L. Miller, of Freeman Avenue, in Newport, until it was too late. The rear side of the Chevy pickup truck struck the front of the Nissan Sentra, causing minor damage to the Nissan Sentra only, Patrolman Heather Lawson reported.
Arrested for forged drug prescription Carmen M. Perkins, 39, of 419 George Washington Drive, in Dandridge, allegedly said she forged a prescription for Lortab 7.5 that her husband Mitchell tried to pass at CVS Pharmacy, located at 346 Cosby Highway, in Newport, Patrolman Ricky Parton reported. Perkins was arrested.
Arrested for domestic assault, resisting arrest Marty Phillips, 44, of 205 Linden St., in Newport, was arrested and charged with domestic assault and resisting arrest, Patrolman Ricky Parton reported.
Arrested for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest Eric D. Phillips, 20, of 205 Linden St., in Newport, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Phillips allegedly resisted arrest and interfered in police officers' investigation and ignored warnings of possible arrest, so officers used pain compliance moves to place Phillips under arrest, Patrolman Matt Franklin reported.
Trespassing, unwanted person Linda Hampton-Parker, East Tennessee State University Work Participation Coordinator for Cocke County, said that on Monday, Dec. 21, Lamar W. Jones, 32, had entered her office without permission and was caught, by Linda, using a computer lab provided to her office by ETSU. Jones has apparently been arrested on two separate occasions for trespassing at the Tanner Building, Capt. Brad Ball reported.
Vandalism alleged Pat Mason said he arrived at Cocke County High School on Tuesday, Dec. 22, at 8 a.m., and noticed that the garage door of the band equipment room had been damaged. The door was raised about five inches and had been bent to where the door would not raise or close all the way. The estimated value of the damage to the garage door is $2,500, Patrolman William Garber reported.
Hit and run accident at Walmart Jerry Glenn Ellis, 65, of Underwood Road, in Newport, said that on Tuesday, Dec. 22, after shopping at Walmart, he returned, started his 2009 Hyundai Alantra, and someone allegedly backed into his vehicle with a small silver car. Sgt. David R. Smith reported that he did observe minor damage to the right rear of the vehicle.
Hit and run at Health Department Amy Helton of White Road, in Bybee, said she parked her 2004 Kia Sportage in a parking space on the side of the Health Department building at 430 College St., in Newport, at 8 a.m., on Tuesday, Dec. 22. She went to work, and at noon, she looked outside and saw someone had struck her vehicle in the left rear area and left the scene. Sgt. David R. Smith reported he noticed some scratches and red paint on the left rear area.
Accident reported to Newport Police Department William Joseph Raines, 52, of 819 Mantooth Hills Road, in Newport, said that sometime during the morning hours of Tuesday, Dec. 22, his 1992 Cadillac DeVille suffered moderate damage to the passenger side. Capt. Brad Ball wrote that, "The location and position of the damage would seem to have been caused by another vehicle."
