SHERIFF'S REPORTS:



Arrested for theft under $500
Nicole Angeline Henry, 27, of 424 Harper Circle, in Newport, was arrested Wednesday, Dec. 16, and charged with theft under $500, Det. Bryan Murr reported. Henry was charged with theft in connection with the stealing of a Kodak digital camera valued at $350, on Nov. 14. The camera belonged to David Freeman, of North Ridge Drive, in Parrottsville.

Public intoxication charge and arrest
Neal Archie McKinney, 67, of 224 Wintergreen Road, was arrested Wednesday, Dec. 16, and charged with public intoxication, Deputy Sheriff Randy Hartsell reported.

Multiple charges in arrest
Kristy R. York, 32, of 244 Woodlawn Ave., in Newport, was arrested Tuesday, Dec. 15, and charged with failure to exercise due care, possession of drug paraphernalia while on school property, driving on a suspended license (two counts), financial responsibility (two counts), registration law, speeding, and no seatbelt, at the parking lot at Cocke County High School, Deputy Sheriff Randy Cutshaw reported. Cutshaw wrote that he clocked York going 25 mph in a 15 mph school zone. He also wrote that she rammed the front of Cutshaw's patrol car, but did not cause any damages.

Violation of Order of Protection
Jimmy Marvin Seay, 36, of 266 Robert E. Lee Drive, in Newport, was arrested Thursday, Dec. 17, and charged with violation of an order of protection, Deputy Sheriff David Crowder reported.

Theft reported
David Ramsey, 38, of Indian Camp Creek Road, in Cosby, said that on Monday, Dec. 14, someone broke into his brother Gary Ramsey's house on Rooster Town Road and stole a box of various tools and a weed eater, Lt. Rick Laws reported. The toolbox with Craftsman tools was valued at $483 and the weed eater was valued at $89.

Theft reported
Thomas H. Massey, 61, of Murray Branch Road, in Newport, said that sometime between Dec. 1 and Monday, Dec. 14, someone stole his debit card from his wallet. He told Sgt. David Crum that $402.60 in money was stolen using the debit card.

Break-in and vandalism
Randy Shiflett, 30, of Leaf Way, in Newport, said he left his residence for three or four hours on Monday, Dec. 14, and when he returned, he noticed his back door had been pried open and items taken from his residence with a total value of $5,515, Deputy Sheriff Tony Bailey reported. Stolen items included a Toshiba 42-inch TV valued at $4,000, assorted toys ($300), an Xbox 360 ($500), 13 Xbox 360 games ($200), a GPS system, and other items.

Burglary/theft under $500
Jeannie Wissel, 46, of Limetree Drive, in Edgewater, Fla., said her parents reported that someone broke into her property on Goodwater Road in Bybee and stole a Yardman self-propelled mower valued at $250, Deputy Sheriff David Crowder reported.

ATV four-wheeler reported stolen
Michelle Wise, 37, of North Highway 107, in Del Rio, reported an Arctic Cat ATV four-wheeler had been stolen, which was valued at $5,000, Sgt. Tony Whitten reported.

Vandalism/theft reported
Karen Grooms, 43, of Big Creek Road, in Hartford, said after she had an argument with an acquaintance, Grooms walked to the Citgo in Hartford and returned to find two tires on her vehicle had been slashed, and several items stolen, including a Samsung cell phone (valued at $40), a purse with belongings ($100), makeup ($30), a house phone charger ($20), cash ($21), and other items, Deputy Sheriff David Parton reported.

Accident on Highway 25E
Marci R. Cruz, 47, of Blue Ridge Way, in Newport, was taken by Allied ambulance to Baptist Hospital of Cocke County after a single-vehicle accident on Saturday, Dec. 12, on Highway 25E at Rankin Hill Road, at about 5:10 p.m., Deputy Sheriff Brian Holt reported. Cruz was traveling north on Highway 25E in a 2002 Jeep SUV when the vehicle traveled off the right side of the road, struck a guardrail, traveled across the road, struck a second guardrail off the left side of the road, and then came to a rest at an angle in the middle of the road.

Accident on New Cave Church Road
Kevin C. Gregg II, 17, of Carson Springs Road, in Newport, was traveling east in a 1997 Ford Taurus on New Cave Church Road, directly behind a 2004 Nissan Sentra driven by Claire T. Sweeten, 50, of Spruce Lane, in Newport, on Saturday, Dec. 12, at about 2:10 p.m., when Sweeten slowed down to make a right turn onto a private drive. Gregg's vehicle struck Sweeten's vehicle in the rear, causing minor damage to the Nissan's rear bumper, Deputy Sheriff Brian Holt reported.

Accident at Carson Springs Road at Clevenger Cut-off
Tammy Hill, 39, of Hill Road, in Newport, was trying to turn right onto John Hannah Drive from Carson Springs Road, in a 2007 Ford 25V on Thursday, Dec. 17, in the morning. Luke Shawn Goddard, 54, of Navaho Drive, in Newport, was traveling in the opposite direction on Carson Springs Road (north) in a 2008 Ford. Hill apparently made a wide turn while turning and struck the Ford's driver's side mirror in the Ford's lane of travel, Deputy Sheriff Andy Tritt reported.

Gun stolen from business
Clayton Owenby, 68, of North Susong Street, in Newport, said someone stole his Smith & Wesson 357 magnum gun that he had at his business on Highway 25E, on Oct. 1. Owenby said he believed a customer passing through the store took the weapon from off a counter, Sgt. David Crum reported.

Violation of order of protection
Auberie Seay, 34, of Oneill Road, in Newport, said an acquaintance has violated an order of protection filed in Cocke County Sessions Court, on Tuesday, Dec. 15, Deputy Sheriff Derrick Webb reported.

Tin allegedly stolen from roof
Bryan Seigler, 48, of Shadow Brook Drive, in Maryville, said that on Dec. 1, someone stole at least 100 pieces of tin that are three feet wide and 12 feet long, forest green in color, from his roof. An anonymous phone caller named an individual he said hired somebody to steal his tin and put it on his garage. Sgt. Tony Whitten drove by the person's house and said they were putting tin on the roof, but he could not verify whether it belonged to Seigler, or not, Deputy Sheriff David Crowder reported. The stolen tin is valued at $2,500.

Phone harassment alleged
Chris Jester, 32, of Big Creek Road, said on Wednesday, Dec. 16, that an acquaintance has been calling her at home and left several threatening messages on her phone after she told the person to stop calling her.

Theft under $500
Jamie Ellison, 32, of Action Street, in Newport, said that on Sunday, Dec. 13, an acquaintance went to her home and stole $180 in cash lying on her footstool, and drove off, Deputy Sheriff David Crowder reported.

Death on Hooper Highway reported
Sean Christopher Parks, 31, of Hooper Highway, in Cosby, was found dead in his home on Hooper Highway, in Cosby, by an acquaintance, on Sunday, Dec. 13. The acquaintance said she last spoke to Parks around 3 a.m., when he came to bed, Deputy Sheriff David Parton reported.

Accident in Family Grocery parking lot
Gerald Patrick Burke, 44, of Cove Hollow Road, in Cosby, was backing up a 2004 Ford FRE van in the parking lot of Family Grocery, on Tuesday, Dec. 15, Sgt. Tony Whitten reported, and struck a 2004 Ford pickup truck driven by Lex Brian Law, 55, of Whites Mill Road, in Maryville while Law was parking his vehicle in a parking spot.

Hit and run accident at Walmart parking lot
Nicole Clevenger, 40, of Lower English Creek, in Newport, said she parked at 2004 Honda Accord at Walmart on the Cosby Highway, on Wednesday, Dec. 16. When she returned to her vehicle, she noticed someone had scratched the Honda all the way down the passenger side, from the front fender to the back fender, according to a report at the Cocke County Sheriff's Department.

Accidental/self-inflicted gunshot wound
Calvin Curtis Naylor, 37, of Hooper Highway, in Cosby, said that on Thursday, Dec. 17, when he walked out of his driveway to test fire a Marlin Model 60 firearm, he slipped, the gun came out of his hand, and discharged into the left lower quad of his abdomen, Constable Mike Shropshire reported. Shropshire said he found the victim sitting on a stool in the kitchen.

Accident on Highway East 25/70
Larry D. Hall, 49, of Highway 107, in Del Rio, was driving a 1997 Ford F150 pickup truck on Highway East 25/70, at Hudson Way, on Wednesday, Dec. 16, headed east and traveling directly behind a 2001 Ford driven by Ronald B. Jacobs, Jr., of Punkton Road, in Del Rio. Jacobs said he came to a complete stop on the road for stopped traffic ahead of him. Hall said he could not stop in time to avoid a collision and struck the Ford in the rear, Deputy Sheriff Brian Holt reported.

Accident on Highway 321
Shirley J. Gunter, 44, of Merry Way, in Parrottsville, was traveling north on Highway 321, in a 2006 Saturn, at Clear Road, when her vehicle crossed the south bound lane backwards through a private driveway and through a mailbox, coming to a final rest on a bank. Gunter was injured. Her vehicle sustained minor damage, Deputy Sheriff C.J. Ball reported. Gunter said she swerved to miss a dead dog lying in her lane of travel.

Accident on Highway 25/70
Steven Michael Owen, 49, of Hurricane Way, in Newport, was driving a 1996 Ford Econo van on Highway 25/70 at the Slab Café on Thursday, Dec. 17, headed east. He slowed to stop to make a left turn into the parking lot of the Slab Café, when a 2004 Cadillac Escalade SUV driven by James David Matson, 69, of Country Drive, in Riverton, Wy., hit the Ford van in the rear, Lt. Rick Laws reported. No one was injured.

Accident on Sherwood Drive
Whitney F. Holt, 37, of 1562 Sherwood Drive, in Newport, was backing out from the drive at her residence, in a 2007 Ford, on Wednesday, Dec. 16, at the same time that Cory J. Strange, 17, of 1563 Sherwood Drive had just backed a 2010 Ford into the road from his driveway. Holt allegedly backed her Ford into the left quarter panel of Strange's Ford, causing damage to both vehicles, Sgt. Eric Rhinehart reported.

Theft over $1,000
Wade Burgin, 42, of Fairfax Road, in Newport, said that on Wednesday, Dec. 16, someone stole two Stihl 460 magnum chainsaws from his property, valued at $850 each, Deputy Sheriff Jason Oury reported. A stolen chain is valued at $20. Burgin named a suspect.

Accident on Punkton Road in Del Rio
Lauren M. Henderson, 20, of 1201 Punkton Road, in Del Rio, was entering the driveway of her residence in a 1999 Honda UEX as Gary D. Henderson, 44, of the same address, was exiting the driveway, in a 1988 Toyota pickup truck. The Toyota struck the Honda, causing minor damage to the fender and tire of the Honda, according to a report by Deputy Sheriff Steve Johnson.

Accident on Highway 25/70 East
Burnley A. Bell, 28, of Upland Avenue, in Greeneville, said he was traveling west on Highway 25/70 on Wednesday, Dec. 16, when, at 5:30 p.m., a deer crossed his path, causing him to strike the deer, Deputy Sheriff Travis Webb reported. Webb wrote that there was visible damage to the passenger side front bumper and headlight of Bell's 2009 Subaru Imprez from Enterprise Leasing Co.

Identity theft alleged
Penny Shoemaker, owner/operator of Shoemaker's Landscaping, at Old Sevierville Highway, said on Thursday, Dec. 17, that someone apparently fabricated two checks drawn against a business account and cashed them. Each check was for $254.32, and both were returned to National Bank of Tennessee. The checks were made out to, and stamped with, the names of people who do not work for Shoemaker, Sgt. Eric Rhinehart reported.

Aggravated burglary/theft
Johnny Potter, 36, of Leaf Way, said that someone broke into his home and stole several items, sometime between 3 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 14, and 12j:00 a.m. on Dec. 16, Deputy Sheriff Brian Holt reported. Stolen were two Vivsatar digital camcorder, valued at $160; and two blank money orders for $100 each.

Aggravated assault
Jeremy Shepherd, 28, of Wilderness Trail, in Cosby, said that on Friday, Dec. 18, he went to the home of an acquaintance, both drank two beers, and they started an altercation, Deputy Sheriff C.J. Ball reported. Shepherd said the acquaintance hit him in the head with a .22 pistol he pulled on Shepherd and shot at him three or four times as he fled the person's home. Shepherd was not injured.

Officer information
William Phillips, 53, of County Line Road in Cosby, said that around 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 13, a female came to his door and said she was from the U.S. Census Bureau. The female was about five feet, eight inches tall, weighing 130 pounds, with blonde hair. She did not give Phillips a name. She allegedly started asking questions about Phillips' property and wanted to go inside his home. He did not let her in. Phillips stated the woman started asking him questions about his education. Phillips told her she was getting personal. The female then left the victim's home, Sgt. David Crum reported.

Runaway juvenile
A 17-year-old male who left his home on Ramblin Road on Monday, Dec. 14, reportedly returned home four and one-half hours later, Lt. Richard Caldwell reported. The suspect was believed to possibly be on drugs.

POLICE REPORTS

Arrested for criminal facilitation of theft
Jordan C. Hammontree, 19, of 132 Melton St., in Newport, was arrested Friday, Dec. 18, at home and charged with criminal facilitation of theft over $1,000. Hammontree allegedly allowed a white male to use his grandmother's Jeep Liberty to go steal a generator from the Newport City Street Department. His pay for allowing the white male to use the Jeep was he would be paid in "dope" (in this case, crack cocaine). The $5,200 Honda generator was later recovered and returned to the city's street department, Capt. James Holt reported.

Two charges of theft in arrest
Timothy S. Stewart, 23, of 839 Jersey Way, in Dandridge, was arrested Friday, Dec. 18, and charged with theft under $500 and theft over $1,000. Stewart allegedly used someone's credit card that had been reported to the Pigeon Forge Police Department as stolen from her car. Apparently, the credit card was used at Walmart in Newport at 1:39 a.m. for $197.02, and again at 2:28 a.m. for $766.60. The transactions were recorded on video surveillance, Patrolman Joshua Veridal reported.

Phone harassment alleged
Dawn Gregory, 29, of 307 English St., in Newport, said on Thursday, Dec. 17, that between 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., she received several vulgar text message from phone number (423) 721-8658. Patrolman Joshua Veridal wrote that Gregory named a suspect.

Harassment
Rhonda Ellison, 22, of 190 Daisy Drive, in Newport, said on Friday, Dec. 18, a white male made contact with her at Discount Carpet on Old Knoxville Highway, in Newport, and made verbal threats of death to her. The male also allegedly threatened to take Ellison's two-year-old daughter from her without Ellison's consent, Patrolman Joshua Veridal reported.

Arrested for disorderly conduct
Gabriel E. Hyatt, 21, of Highpoint Way, in Newport, was arrested Thursday, Dec. 17, and charged with disorderly conduct. Hyatt was stopped in a 1993 Honda doing a spinout in a yard on Bailey Street. Officers had to physically restrain him to get him under control after he granted officers permission to search his vehicle, Patrolman Allen Stump reported.

Domestic violence assault and vandalism
Brandon J. Hutson, 25, of 381 Rich Road, in Newport, was arrested Wednesday, Dec. 16, at 1:15 a.m. at home, and charged with domestic violence assault and vandalism under $500, Patrolman Matthew Elliott reported.

Possession of Schedule VI (marijuana)
Russell T. Mooneyham, of 436 Lennon Circle, in Newport, was arrested Thursday, Dec. 17, at 3:37 a.m. and charged with possession of Schedule VI (marijuana), Patrolman Matt Franklin reported.

Harassment
Jody Ball, 18, of 890 Sierra Road, in Newport, said two females and one male have been trying to fight him at Cocke County High School and around town for the past several months. Ball told Patrolman Matthew Elliott that on Tuesday, Dec. 15.

Theft under $500
Brandi King, 31, said she left her Ipod Touch plugged up and laying on her desk at the Department of Child Services office, at 335 East Broadway, in Newport. She said she left it on her desk at 10:30 a.m. At 7 p.m., when she checked, it was gone. She named a suspect. The Ipod Touch is valued at $375, and a case, at $25, Patrolman Donald Coakley reported.

Breaking and entering/theft
Ricky Jones, 49, of Musterfield Road, in Newport, said on Tuesday, Dec. 15, that sometime from Dec. 10 to Dec. 15, someone broke into the passenger-side door of his 1986 Chevrolet truck and took a True Value brand tool box with an assortment of Craftsman hand tools inside the box, valued at a total of $1,000, Patrolman Joshua Veridal reported.

Vandalism/threats
Linda Lovell, 19, of Rankin Road, in Newport, said an acquaintance on Wednesday, Dec. 16, came by her job at Bojangles on Epley Road, irate and demanding to talk to her, on two occasions. The acquaintance allegedly told a fellow employee of Lovell they had not seen the last of the suspected offender and that he would "get her," Sgt. David R. Smith reported. Damage to the driver's side door is estimated at $400.

Forgery, theft under $500
Sabrina C. Collins, 34, of 187 Vince Lane, I Newport, said on Tuesday, Dec. 15, that on Nov. 1 an acquaintance signed her name to a lessee agreement for five DVD rentals at Popcorn Video at 131 Western Plaza Drive, in Newport. They accrued late fees of $2 per video per day since Nov. 2, when they were due back. The total late fees up to that date was $430, and the replacement fees plus tax came out to $137.19, Patrolman Matthew Elliott reported.

Accident on Cosby Highway
James David Hoyt, 57, of McGaha Chapel Road, in Cosby, was driving a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 truck on Wednesday, Dec. 16, through the U.S. Post Office parking lot. David Graham Hastie, 60, of 1044 South Highway 340, in Parrottsville, allegedly backed out from a parking space and into the side of the Dodge truck, causing damage to the driver's side door area.

Hit and run in Newport Village Square Shopping Center
Denneasa K. Thomas, 27, of Windspirit Way, in Newport, said she parked her 1988 Toyota Camry in the Newport Village Square Shopping Center, on Wednesday, Dec. 16, went into the Dollar General store, and then a passenger in her car, Randy Jeffers, came into the store and said a blue Pontiac Grand Am had backed into the front end of the Toyota, then fled from the scene. Police noticed minor damage to the front bumper of the Toyota, Patrolman Travis Gorrell reported.

Arrested on Lewis Road
Melissa A. Parton, 38, of 1027 Carson Springs Road, in Newport, was arrested Thursday, Dec. 17, at 10:30 p.m., and charged with driving on a suspended license, financial responsibility law, and registration law, Patrolman Ricky Parton reported. Melissa Parton was stopped on Lewis Road in Newport.

Violation of restraining order
Tracy Reece, 32, of 2931 Bogard Road, in Cosby, said an acquaintance allegedly violated a restraining order because the person not allowed contact with her or two minor children. Reece said she was in line at the drive-thru window at Bojangle's, at 104 Epley Road, in Newport, when an acquaintance approached her car and opened the passenger's side car door. Reece said the person began calling her obscene names in front of the children so she screamed to draw attention to the situation. The person then fled in a black Toyota truck, headed towards Highway 32, Patrolman Travis Gorrell reported.

Theft of property reported
Joel Thompson, 38, of 2600 East Andrew Johnson Highway, in Morristown, said in 2003 he leased some property to a business that used to be located on Cosby Highway, in Newport. Thompson said the company went out of business. He said a cooler worth $500 was stolen sometime between 2003 and Sept. 1, 2009, Patrolman William Garber reported. The police responded on Thursday, Dec. 17, when contacted by Thompson.

Counterfeit money
Janice Butler at the County Clerk's office said on Thursday, Dec. 17, that Donnie Reed Stokley, 59, of Old Sevierville Highway, in Newport, attempted to pay for his new driver's license with a $100 bill she found to be counterfeit. Stokley allegedly said he was not sure where he received the counterfeit bill, but perhaps it came from a local bank. The bill was confiscated and placed into evidence at the Newport Police Department, Patrolman William Garber reported.

Counterfeit $5 bill
Lisa Shinleaf at Brock's Market, at 661 East Broadway, in Newport, said on Friday, Dec. 18, that a man tried to pass a counterfeit $5 bill. The man told officers he did not know where he got it from, Patrolman Matt Franklin reported.

Accident at Burger King
Melinda S. Gibbs, 52, of Shag Road, in Newport, was driving a 1995 Pontiac Grand Am through the Burger King parking lot, at 836 Cosby Highway, in Newport, towards the drive-thru area. Freddie C. Thompson, 69, of Splashaway Road, in Newport, allegedly backed out a 2001 Mazda Tribute he was driving from a parking space and struck the Pontiac in the left door area, causing moderate damage, Sgt. David R. Smith reported.

DUI and speeding charges in arrest
Henrietta Harris, 42, of 370 Carson Springs Road, in Newport, was arrested on Wednesday, Dec. 16, at 11 p.m., and charged with DUI and speeding. Harris was allegedly traveling at a speed of 73 mph in a 45 mph speed zone on West Highway 25/70, Patrolman Matt Franklin reported.
