SHERIFF'S REPORTS:



DUI 2nd offense and failure to dim high beams
Carrie J. Ford, 28, of 145 Green Forest Road, in Cosby, was arrested Saturday, Dec. 12, at the Shoney's Restaurant parking lot on Cosby Highway, and charged with driving under the influence 2nd offense and failure to dim high beams, Deputy Sheriff C. J. Ball reported.

DUI 1st offense charged in arrest
Joe Daniel Laws, 68, of 1377 East Highway 25/70, in Newport, was arrested Thursday, Dec. 10, and charged with DUI 1st offense, Deputy Sheriff Steve Johnson reported. Deputy Sheriff Andy Tritt said the Ford truck Laws was driving almost struck his patrol car. The vehicle also allegedly drove out of its lane of travel at least six times and passed a school bus that had its stop sign out.

Stolen vehicle reported
Patrick Sisk, 35, of Hannon Road, in Newport, said her 2009 Pontiac G6 was stolen between 10 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11, and 4:15 a.m. the next morning. It was parked in her driveway, Deputy Sheriff Jason Oury reported. Sisk reportedly told Oury she left the vehicle unlocked, but had the keys to it secured in her residence. The vehicle is estimated at $27,000. Sisk said the car was equipped with OnStar, which agreed to assist police in locating the vehicle.

Burglary reported
Ginger Phillips, 32, of Phillips Road, told Deputy Sheriff Steve Johnson that her mother told two acquaintances were in Phillips' home on Thursday, Dec. 10. The door to the mobile home had been forced open and one beer can and a glove left inside the home. Phillips estimated damage to the door to be $100.

Aggravated burglary/theft
William Sprouse, 59, of Pleasant Grove Road, said sometime between Nov. 13 and Thursday, Dec. 10, while he was on a hunting trip in Pennsylvania, someone broke into his home and stole a long rifle valued at $550, Deputy Sheriff Steve Johnson reported. The firearm was a 30.30 caliber Winchester rifle, "blonde" in color, with a Bushnell scope.

Aggravated burglary/assault
Heather Ford, 30, of Big Creek Road, said she was in her home on Thursday, Dec. 11, at about 10 p.m., when she heard a knock at the door. Thinking it was an acquaintance, she said, "Come in." A white male, six-foot two, with 250 pounds, wearing a black ski mask, entered her home and struck her with his fist, Deputy Sheriff Steve Johnson reported. The burglar then took medications from her home valued at $65, and left the residence.

Violation of probation charge and arrest
Curtis Lee Mehling, 43, of 665 Vixen Way, in Cosby, was arrested Thursday, Dec. 10, and charged with violation of probation, Det. Bryan Murr reported. Mehling allegedly failed to report to his probation officer, and never paid any court costs, fines and fees generated by his Aug. 17 conviction of possession of marijuana.

Child's four-wheeler recovered
A child's four-wheeler reported stolen on Dec. 4 from a barn on the Curtis Ledford property on South Highway 107, in Del Rio, and valued at $500, was recovered by the Greene County Sheriff's Department on Wednesday, Dec. 9, Chief Det. Robert Caldwell reported. Charges are pending, according to his report.

Accident on Bogard Road
Lonnie T. Ramsey, 62, of 591 Louise Creek Road, in Cumberland Furnace, was driving a 2003 Ford Ranger pickup truck north on Bogard Road, near Sunset Gap Road, on Tuesday, Dec. 8, when the vehicle allegedly slid on the wet road and crossed over the centerline into the southbound lane, striking a 2009 Chevrolet van driven by Stacy M. Bevins, 34, of 7331 Millertown Park, in Knoxville, Deputy Sheriff Brian Holt reported. No injuries were reported.

Accident on Interstate 40
Heidi M. Kato, 23, of 1881 Vince Lane, in Newport, was traveling west on Interstate 40 near exit 432A, on Wednesday, Dec. 9, at about 00:15 a.m., in a 2008 Dodge Charger when the vehicle left the right side of the road and struck the end of a guardrail, Deputy Sheriff C. J. Ball reported. Moderate damage was done to the guardrail and the vehicle. Kato said rain caused her vehicle to hydroplane, which led to the accident.

Tractor flips off embankment
Brandon Proffitt, 20, of Soak Ash Creek Road, in Gatlinburg, an employee with Strange Tree Cut, was operating a tractor on Willie Strange's driveway on Strange Hollow Road, in Del Rio, on Wednesday, Dec. 9, when the bank gave way, causing the tractor to flip off the embankment, Deputy Sheriff Tony Bailey reported. The tractor was a 2005 Kabota 7510.



POLICE REPORTS



GPS System stolen
Mason Ottinger, 20, of North Susong Street, in Newport, said that on either Thursday, Dec. 10, or the next day, a GPS system was taken from the dash of her 2008 Honda SUV, Patrolman Travis Gorrell reported. The GPS system is valued at $250. It is a Vision Boyo 3.5-inch portable GPS.

Driving on a revoked license 4th offense
David C. Livingston, 29, of 2860 Crossfield Way, in Bybee, was arrested on Saturday, Dec. 12, at about 2:40 a.m. and charged with driving on a revoked license 4th offense. Livingston reportedly told officers after a two-car collision at McDonald, at 817 Cosby Highway, that he did not have a driver's license and that it was revoked. Dispatch said his license was revoked for a DWI. Prior dates of allegedly committing the offense of driving on a revoked license were in 2006 (twice) and 2007, Patrolman Amy Elswick reported.

Domestic assault and vandalism charges
Joseph J. Schleutker, 23, of Circle Drive, in Gatlinburg, was arrested on Friday, Dec. 11, and charged with domestic assault (three charges) and vandalism, Patrolman William Garber reported. Police apparently responded to a report of Schleutker being at the East Tennessee Probation Office on McSween Avenue, in Newport. Cocke County Deputy Sheriff Joey Owings had warrants for the domestic assault and vandalism charges.
