I know it is a pipedream, only a pipe dream. But wouldn't
it be nice if our elected officials in Washington stood up for the people they
were elected to represent? Congressman Roe's vote against Health Care reform
shows he values corporations more than We the People.
Perhaps this is because he now lives in ivory towers, and
surround himself with trappings of power and prestige. And to protect the
status quo, the arguments he blabbers against health care reform is pure
propaganda. My favorite author, C.S. Lewis, wrote "Wisdom begins by
calling things by their right names." Do we hear him calling things by the
right names, or does he echo the emotionally charged terms of his party-line?
We hear from him in his phone town-halls terms like death squads, government
takeover of healthcare, nationalized medicine. None of them are the right
names.
On top of that is his lack of concern for people who are
struggling and suffering. He wants to keep things as they are. On Mr. Roe's
website he writes that one of his goals is:
"Preventing the destruction of a system that works
for 80 percent of Americans to extend coverage to the remaining
Americans."
Well, Honorable Mr. Roe, firstly there is no talk of
destruction of the current system, and secondly I-for one-care about the 20%
you wish to dismiss. I care about the LEAST OF THESE, and I see it as a valid
function of government to promote the health and wellbeing of all its
citizens.
As I see it, you are against the people. So, shame on you, Mr. Roe. For a little
while you may continue to stand with the elite in your towers. I'll stand in
the street with the least of these, and elections come up in less than a year.
