NEWPORT-A recent parental survey conducted by Cocke
County Schools Title I Parent Involvement Program leaders indicated several
parents were interested in attending parenting skills classes.
According to Gary Holt, Cocke County Elementary Parent
Involvement Coordinator, the surveys were conducted through Cocke County's nine
elementary schools.
Because of the positive response to the surveys,
according to Holt, parenting skills classes will be made available and will be
conducted by Julie Daniel of The Florence Crittenton Agency of Knoxville.
"The theme for the meetings," said Holt,
"will be COPE, an acronym for Consistency, Openness, Planning, and
Encouragement."
"Giving families the help they need to provide a
healthy, safe, and nurturing home for their child is an important part of what The
Florence Crittenton Agency offers," Holt continued. "FCA also works
to strengthen communities through effective prevention and treatment services
to children, families, and expectant mothers."
Daniel holds a Master's degree in counseling and is a
member of the National Certified Counselors (NCC).
Parenting skills classes will begin Tuesday, Nov. 17, at
6 p.m. in the Cocke County High School Library. The classes are free.
"Childcare will be provided for school-age
children," Holt said.
For more information about the classes, visit the Cocke
County School System's Parent Involvement website:
