NEWPORT-It was round two of the Cocke County elementary
school basketball season this past Thursday night at four locations. On the
schedule were Northwest at Edgemont, Centerview hosting Grassy Fork, Cosby at
Parrottsville and Bridgeport at Smoky Mountain.

The Lady Eagles came out pushing, and the Lady Parrotts
just couldn't manage to get close. The Lady Eagles jumped out to a 14-8 first
quarter lead, and then made it 26-13 at the break. The Lady Eagles' lead
remained 13, 30-17, after three. A late game surge by the Lady Parrotts wasn't
enough as the Lady Eagles came away with the eight-point victory. Tasha Ball
had a game-high 17 points to lead the Lady Eagles while Twylah Fobber had 8
points to pace the Lady Parrotts.

It appeared the Parrotts would run away with this one,
but the Eagles tried a big second-half comeback. The Parrotts flew out to a
14-6 first quarter lead, and made it a 14-point advantage, 31-17, at the break.
The Eagles pulled to within six, 38-32, at the end of three, but the Parrotts
managed to hang on for the five-point victory. Seth Lovell and Ike Rouleau each
had a game-high 17 points to lead the Parrotts while Jordan Carpenter had 13
points to lead the Eagles.

The Lady Panthers were simply way too much for the Lady
Patriots on this night. The Lady Panthers led 26-0 after the first quarter and
41-0 at the break and never looked back. Taylor Thornton had a game-high 12
points to lead the Lady Panthers while Markisha Allen accounted for all six of
the Lady Patriots' points.

The Purple Panthers jumped on the Patriots early, and
refused to let the visitors play catch-up. The Panthers leaped out to a 12-2
first quarter lead, and made it 28-7 at the break. The Patriots turned up their
offense a bit in the second half, but it wasn't enough. The Panthers led 41-16
after three, and cruised home with the 30-point victory. Chandler Duckett and
Michael Hood each had a game-high 12 points for the Panthers while Kinsler Rea
and Francisco Torres each had 7 points to pace the Patriots.

The Lady Ravens jumped on the Lady Falcons early, but the
Lady Falcons made a strong comeback in the second half. The Lady Ravens flew
out to a 12-2 first quarter lead, and made it an 11-point advantage, 20-9, at
the break. The Lady Ravens still had a comfortable lead after three, 28-15, but
the Lady Falcons were everywhere in the fourth quarter. The Lady Falcons
outscored the Lady Ravens 13-3 over the final six minutes, but the Lady Ravens
managed to hang on for the three-point victory. Peyton Johnson and Wendy McGaha
each had 8 points to lead the Lady Ravens while Leah Lewandowski had a
game-high 16 points to lead the Lady Falcons.

The Ravens held the early advantage in this one, but the
Falcons came on strong over the final two quarters. The Ravens flew out to a
12-6 first quarter lead, and led 24-16 at the break. But, the Falcons pulled to
within two, 26-24, at the end of three, and outscored the Ravens 14-1 down the
stretch for the 11-point victory. Colin White had a game-high 11 points to lead
the Falcons while Keenan Phillips and Thomas Edwards each had 9 points to lead
the Ravens.

Rockets proved to be too strong once warmed up. The Lady Bears lead 6-5 at the
end of the first quarter, and 10-8 at the break. But, the Lady Rockets woke up
in the second half, pulling into the lead, 17-11, at the end of three, and then
cruising home with the 12-point victory. A. Williams had a game-high 16 points,
11 of those in the fourth quarter, to lead the Lady Rockets while Cyara
Williams had 11 points to lead the Lady Bears.

on the Rockets for a 14-4 first quarter lead and 27-14 lead at the break. The
Smoky Bears were up 34-20 at the end of three, and cruised home with the
24-point victory. Max Weeks had a game-high 15 points to lead the Smoky Bears
while Patrick Hurst had 12 points to pace the Rockets.

way to stop the Lady Eagles' Tasha Ball. The Lady Eagles held a 6-3 first
quarter lead, and made it 10-6 at the break. But Ball exploded for 17
second-half points to boost the Lady Eagles to a 24-11 third quarter lead, and
eventually the 18-point victory. Ball finished with a game-high 25 points for
the Lady Eagles while Cyara Williams had 13 points to pace the Lady Bears.

game-high 14 points for the Smoky Bears while Brody Williams had 5 points to
lead the Eagles.

That puts a wrap on the first week of Cocke
County elementary basketball action. The second week begins on Monday, November
9, as Del Rio travels to Centerview, Smoky Mountain is at home to Parrottsville,
Northwest plays at Bridgeport and Grassy Fork will play host to Edgemont.
Monday will also see the first junior varsity action of the season as the
Grassy Fork Lady Ravens hosts the Edgemont Lady Panthers starting at 5 p.m.
Girl's varsity tips at 6 p.m. followed by boy's varsity.
