Sheriff's


Violation of probation
Michael Blevins, 35, of 544 East Parkway, in Gatlinburg, was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 30, and charged with violation of probation, Deputy Sheriff Andy Tritt reported.

Capias
Johnny W. Guy, 37, of 1182 Raines Road, was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 30, and charged with capias, Deputy Sheriff Andy Tritt reported.

Arrest for DUI, 1st offense
Pamela K. Miller, 60, of 203 Boyd St., in Johnson City, was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 00:30, on Highway 160 at Warbler Road, and charged with DUI. Miller allegedly wrecked a 2007 Hyundai she was driving and had an infant passenger, Saul Bays, age four months, Deputy Sheriff Jason Oury and Deputy Sheriff C.J. Ball reported.

Theft of Harley-Davidson motorcycle reported
Mark Lessard, 51, of 32 Snow Pond Road, in Concord, N.H., reported that he left his 2005 Harley-Davidson motorcycle at the home of an acquaintance in Del Rio and he learned on Sunday, Sept. 27, that the motorcycle was missing, Lt. Rick Laws reported. The acquaintance allegedly said he took the motorcycle, valued at $13,500, "parted it out" and could never prove it was at his home.

Vandalism reported
Jesse Bailey, 55, of 248 Midnight Way, in Parrottsville, said that on Monday, Sept. 28, someone vandalized his vehicle was it was parked at Wilma's Two on Highway 321, Lt. Rick Laws reported.

Generator reported stolen
Sherrill Norwood, 61, of Highway 25/70 East, told Sgt. David Crum that sometime between Monday, Sept. 21, and Saturday, Sept. 26, someone entered his home and stole a generator valued at $400.

Break-in alleged
Kriston Barnes, 35, of Rankin Hill Road, said that on Tuesday, Sept. 29, someone broke into her home and took several items, including a gun safe (worth $89), 10 firearms, ammunition, Harley-Davidson blades, a jewelry box containing $4,500 worth of jewelry, and medication, Det. Travis Webb reported.

Attempted burglary?
Bud Briggs, 33, of Huff Road, in Cosby, said when he came into his home through the back door on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 5:50 p.m., someone ran out the front door of his home, Sgt. Ricky Holt reported. Nothing was missing.

Theft of medication
Zena Haney, 45, of Ellen Lane, said on Monday, Sept. 28, that a relative took some medication of hers valued at $1.25, Deputy Sheriff Jason Oury reported.

VOP and failure to appear/capias
Jacob Matthew Reynolds, 22, of 613 Mountain Breeze Way, in Newport, was arrested Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 11:40 p.m., at Ryan's Restaurant on the Cosby Highway, and during a traffic stop and was arrested and charged with violation of probation and failure to appear/capias, Deputy Sheriff Steve Johnson reported.

Violation of probation 2nd offense charge and arrest
Ashley Shelton, 22, of 401 Harper Circle, in Newport, was arrested Tuesday, Sept. 29, and charged with violation of probation 2nd offense, Deputy Sheriff C.J. Ball reported. She was arrested in Morristown.

Two violations of probation and one failure to appear
Tammy Lane, 31, of Carson Springs Road, was arrested Tuesday, Sept. 29, and charged with two violations of probation and failure to appear Deputy Sheriff Jason Oury allegedly observed Lane failing to yield at a stop sign.

Injury in accident on Armory Road
Linda B. Jeffers, 41, of 100 Country View Way, in Newport, was traveling north on Armory Road near South Highway 32, on Tuesday, Sept. 29, in a 2000 Nissan Sentra, when a truck allegedly crossed into her lane of travel. Jeffers said she locked up her brakes, which caused her vehicle to slide into the oncoming lane of travel. She then overcorrected to the right, left the road, and collided with an embankment before coming to a stop, Sgt. Eric Rinehart reported. Jeffers was transported by Allied ambulance to Baptist Hospital of Cocke County.

Theft under $500 charge and arrest
Carroll R. Beaver, 65, of Valley Way, was arrested Tuesday, Sept. 29, and charged with theft under $500 after a warrant alleged he stole $400 from Cathy McKee's pocketbook on Sept. 3 while she was a patient at Baptist Hospital of Cocke County.

Public intoxication
Theodore M. Campbell, 44, of 647 Centerview St., in Newport, was arrested Tuesday, Sept. 29, and charged with public intoxication, Capt. Scott Lamb reported.

Harassment alleged
Jessica Eller, 24, of 152 Northview Road, in Newport, said two women have harassed her continuously since March 2009, Patrolman Matthew Elliott reported.

Theft under $500
Dustin James, 12, of Elana Drive, in Newport, said someone stole his backpack he left at a basketball court in the Newport City Park on Monday, Sept. 28, while he was playing. The backpack, valued at $30, had a sixth-grade math book worth $120 and a NFL Greatest book valued at $27, Lt. Terry Lawson reported.

Lost wallet
William Dockery, 20, of Cottage Way Road, in Parrottsville, said that he lost his wallet on Monday, Sept. 27, but he was not sure if it happened in Newport or somewhere in Hartford. He said the wallet had $362 in cash, a driver's license, and a hunting license, Patrolman William Garber reported.

Theft of property from auto alleged
Teresa E. McMahan, 35, of Filbert Street, in Newport, said that sometime during the night, on Saturday, Sept. 23, or the morning of Sept. 24, someone removed an Alpine CD player, two Jenson subwoofer speakers, and a Pioneer stereo amplifier from her 1995 Ford Windstar van. McMahan said she believed the vehicle was unlocked, Capt. Brad Ball reported. The stereo equipment is valued at $555.

Theft of property
Rodney L. Hance, 44, of Filbert Street, said he, too, had items stolen, at the same time as McMahan, from his 1988 Honda Civic, which he said had been left unlocked. Stolen were a Pioneer CD player (valued at $189), a car stereo amplifier ($50), two subwoofers ($89), tools (including a grease gun and numerous ratchet/sockets, valued at $750), and a lighted subwoofer speaker box ($100), Capt. Brad Ball reported.

Trespass violation
A Loss Prevention Officer at Walmart said on Tuesday, Sept. 22, that he had a video of Robbie Evans leaving the store on Tuesday, Sept. 19, even though Evans was allegedly trespassed from the store on Thursday, Sept. 21 and had allegedly signed a warning stating he was not to be on the Walmart property, Det. Donna Hopkins reported.

Theft over $1,000 reported
Lois Jane Stewart, 88, of Buckeye Drive, in Cosby, said that on Thursday, Sept. 24, at Food City, in the Eastern Plaza Shopping Center on Broadway, she placed her pocketbook in a shopping cart, turned to look at some grapes, and found her pocketbook gone when she looked back, Patrolman William Garber reported. Stewart said the pocketbook had $60 in cash, a Trac cell phone, a Bell Tone hearing aid, checkbook, credit cards, driver's license, and several other items totaling $4,695.

Harassment/reckless endangerment alleged
Shane Shoemaker, of Allens Chapel Road, in Parrottsville, said that on Tuesday, Sept. 19, he was driving with three passengers when an acquaintance pulled up in a vehicle beside them in the Mapco parking lot and yelled an obscenity and "white power," then tried to run them off the road at the Golden Dynasty at 119 Western Plaza Way, in Newport, Patrolman Jason Hensley reported.

Counterfeit $100 bill accepted
A manager for Kenjo Market, at 1004 Cosby Highway, in Newport, said that on Monday, Sept. 28, at 1 a.m., an employee accepted a $100 bill from a person identified on video by an officer, Det. Donna Hopkins reported.

Theft of property alleged
Burke Callison, 71, of Woodlawn Avenue, in Newport, said that sometime between Sunday, Sept. 27, and Tuesday, Sept. 29, someone stole a Hewlett-Packard Mini Notebook computer from his home, Patrolman William Garber reported. It is valued at $300.

Theft over $500
Heather Fox, 25, of Woodlawn Avenue, in Newport, said that jewelry worth approximately $450 was stolen from her residence on Tuesday, Sept. 29, Patrolman Ricky Parton reported.

Theft alleged
Jane Gollis at the Huddle House, at 1130 West Highway, in Newport, said that on Tuesday, Sept. 29, a cash drawer came up short $81.15, Patrolman Allen Stump reported.

Vandalism/theft over $500
Emily Sexton, 23, of Hiawassee Street, in Newport, said an acquaintance admitted taking food from her home on Tuesday, Sept. 29, Patrolman Ricky Parton reported. Also found missing were two car seats valued at $200 each. The food is valued at $400. Sexton said a door had been kicked in.

Theft under $500
Kathryn Dennis, 78, of Frog Pond Alley, in Newport, said someone stole a lawn mower worth $150 and two gas cans valued at $30 from her property on Tuesday, Sept. 29, Patrolman William Garber reported.

Theft reported
Traci Williams, of Williams Lawn Care on West Broadway, in Newport, said that on the night of Monday, Sept. 28, someone stole several items from the business, including a wheel barrel, pots, two rocking chairs, and a bear bench, worth a total of $1,015, Patrolman Matt Franklin reported.

Theft of merchandise under $500 and criminal trespass
Chris J. Smith, 31, of 411 White Oak Ave., in Newport, was arrested Tuesday, Sept. 29, and charged with theft of merchandise under $500 and criminal trespass. Smith allegedly attempted to shoplift from Walmart the following items: four Stanley socket sets, a 3/8 inch drive ratchet, and a one and 1/2 inch drive ratchet, at a total value of $103.37, Patrolman Ricky Parton alleged.

Burglary of a residence
Nyoman Suprapta, 22, of 415 Rankin Road, in Newport, said when he returned home on Monday, Sept. 28, he found someone had entered his home and taken the following: a Toshiba laptop (valued at $1,576.77), an HP laptop ($1,300), Avertec ($700), Yamaha acoustic guitar ($200), and another Yamaha acoustic guitar (valued at $50), Capt. Scott Lamb reported.

Theft under $500
Brittany Harrison, 21, of Lamon Circle, in Newport, said an acquaintance took her house key off her key ring and fled, on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at about 12:30 a.m., from the Backway Inn, at 420 West Broadway, Capt. Scott Lamb reported.

Hit and run in Walmart parking lot
Patricia A. Lovell, 59, of 563 Teague Road, in Newport, said that she believed that on Saturday, Sept. 26, when she parked her 2005 Chrysler PTC at the Walmart parking lot, someone hit her vehicle with their vehicle and then fled, Patrolman Matt Franklin reported.

Accident on Highway 321
A 1993 Jeep Cherokee driven by John W. Weldon, 36, of 1322 Fowlers Grove Road, in Newport collided with a 1990 Cadillac Brougham driven by Shawna K. Fullington, 39, of 858 Sierra Road, in Newport, at the intersection of the Cosby Highway and New Cave Church Road, on Monday, Sept. 28, Patrolman William Garber reported. Weldon was taken by Allied ambulance to Baptist Hospital of Cocke County and charged with violating the financial responsibility law. Fullington was charged with driving while her license was suspended, Garber's report stated.

Counterfeit $100 bill
Richard C. Brown, 42, of 440 Driskell Circle, in Newport, allegedly tried to purchase some items from Brocks Market, at 601 East Broadway, in Newport, with a counterfeit $100 bill, on Monday, Sept. 28, Capt. Scott Lamb reported.
Brown told police he received the bill earlier in the evening from a bank where he cashed his check.

Four counterfeit $5 bills confiscated
Denise Barret, 42, of 485 Long Ave., in Newport, allegedly tried to pay for gas at Food City East's Gas and Go, in the Eastern Plaza Shopping Center, on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 9:30 a.m., with three counterfeit $5 bills. Barret told Sgt. Jason Smith that when the bills were found to be counterfeit, she paid for her gas with a $20 bill that was not fake and waited for police to arrive. She also discovered she had a fourth counterfeit $5 bill in her possession. She allegedly told police she got the money from a bar on John Sevier Highway, near Strawberry Plains, on the previous night, when she got change to play pool. She told Smith she had been to the bar three times, but did not remember its name, the report stated.

Counterfeit $5 bill
An employee of Brocks Market, located at 601 East Broadway, in Newport, reported that a white male in his 30's came to buy a beer and gave her a $5 bill that she marked and discovered it was counterfeit. She said she gave the $5 bill back to the man and he left. She also said she discovered another counterfeit $5 bill lying on the floor where the beer was, Patrolman Donald Coakley reported.

Breaking and entering reported
Dawn Lloyd, 31, of Ridgestone Way, in Newport, said that while she was working at Walmart, at 1075 Cosby Highway, on Friday, Sept. 25, at about 8:35 p.m., her husband went out to their car and found missing two packs of cigarettes valued at approximately $10, and medication worth $50, Patrolman Robby McMahan reported.

Counterfeit currency
An employee of Mr. Gas Texaco, at 1301 West 25/70, in Newport, said that on Sunday, Sept. 27, an unknown subject came into the store to purchase coffee and food with a $20 bill that was discovered to be counterfeit. The employee said when she told the white male believed to be in his 60's that it was counterfeit, he fled the scene and headed toward the interstate, Patrolman Robby McMahan reported.

Simple assault alleged
William Lee Gill, 21, of 1025 Hilltop Circle, in Sevierville, said that on Monday, Sept. 28, at about 1:30 a.m., he asked a friend for a ride to Sevierville, an argument ensued, and during a physical fight, the friend allegedly struck the victim in the face several times with his fists, Sgt. David R. Smith reported. Smith wrote that he observed blood coming from Gill's nose.

Domestic assault charge and arrest
Stevie D. Gilland, 30, of 590 North St., in Newport, was arrested Saturday, Sept. 26, and charged with domestic assault, Patrolman Matthew Elliott reported.

Vandalism alleged
Irfan Momin, 37, of Riverview Road, in Newport, reported that on Sunday, Sept. 27, someone apparently punctured three tires on his vehicle parked in the parking lot of Dairy Queen, at 365 West Broadway, in Newport, Patrolman Robby McMahan reported.

Assaults and trespassing alleged
Allison Ottinger and Joshua Cutshaw said that on Sunday, Sept. 27, an acquaintance punched each of them and could not be found when police arrived. The suspect had allegedly been told several times in the past few months not to be at the Rankin Road residence, Patrolman Matthew Elliott reported.

Harassment alleged
John Benson, 24, of 569 Wells Drive, in Newport, said an individual he knows had been following him in their vehicle from the Newport City Park on Saturday, Sept. 26. Benson said that for 55 minutes, at a stop sign or traffic light, the person would jump out of their car, run up to his, and start beating on his window, Patrolman Donald Coakley. Police responded to Benson's call to dispatch and found the suspect running around Benson's car screaming and beating on the windows, in the parking lot of Verizon Wireless, at 737 Cosby Highway, in Newport.

Forgery alleged
Tina Perkins, 29, of Neddy Mountain Road, in Del Rio, said someone forged her name on three checks in March for a total of $153.29, Patrolman Robby McMahan reported.

Driver's vehicle hits unoccupied, parked vehicle
Roger Eugene Ramsey, 40, of 220 Greenbrier Circle, in Newport, was allegedly driving a 2002 Lincoln on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 303 White Oak, where the Macedonia Baptist Church is located, and inadvertently hit an unoccupied 2000 Lexus RX300 on its right side, causing minor damage to both vehicles, Patrolman Matthew Elliott reported.

Arrest and three charges
Bryan B. Thompson, 23, of 118 Rice St., in Newport, was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 30, and charged with traffic control device, driving on a suspended license 2nd offense, and violation of probation, Patrolman Mathew Elliott reported.

Arrest for criminal trespass
Mitchell J. Ray, 26, of 2258 Fain Road, in Dandridge, was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 30, and charged by a Walmart Loss Prevention Officer with criminal trespass, it was reported.

Arrest for theft under $500
Whitney L. Rox, 22, of 551 North Highway 340, in Parrottsville, was arrested today, Oct. 1, at 3:25 a.m., and charged with theft under $500, Capt. James Holt reported.

Arrested and charged with four counts of phone harassment
Arvine W. Grooms Jr., 38, of 841A Under the Mountain Road, in Cosby, was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 30, and charged with four counts of phone harassment, Patrolman Travis Correll reported.

Aggravated burglary and theft over $500
Randall J. Mathis, 35, of 437 Lennon Circle, in Newport, was arrested at home on Wednesday, Sept. 30, and charged with aggravated burglary and theft over $500, Capt. James Holt reported.

Theft under $500
Chris Smith was allegedly seen stealing tools from a shelf in Walmart on Saturday, Sept. 26, Det. Donna Hopkins reported.

Theft under $500 alleged
Lonnie Sutton, 40, of Warford Road, in Newport, said that on Monday, Sept. 28, he discovered someone had stolen several items from his unlocked tool box on his 1991 Ford pickup truck, Patrolman Donald Coakley reported.

Theft under $500 reported
Jenny Bailey, 51, of Underwood Road, in Newport, said that on Wednesday, Sept. 30, she found someone had deducted $50 from her account at GreenBank without her permission. She said that later on the same day, someone took $25 more without her permission, Patrolman Travis Gorrell reported.

Breaking and entering/theft over $1,000
Bonnie Ellen Holt, 46, of 430 Lennon Circle, in Newport, said that jewelry, medication, and hundreds of CD's, worth a total of $1,750, was stolen from her home on Wednesday, Sept. 30, Patrolman Billy Woody reported. Most of the property was recovered later, one the same day.
