Theft under $500
Cecil Kellor, 55, of 599 Battle Road, named an individual he said stole about $200 in assorted change from his residence, Sgt. Eric Rinehart reported.

Break-in reported
Olan Leatherwood, 80, of Ransom Circle, said sometime between Wednesday, Sept. 16, and Friday, Sept. 18, someone stole a light garden tiller worth $250 from his property, Lt. Rick Laws reported.

Lawn mower reported stolen
Jamos Fralix, 65, of Highway 73, said that on Thursday, Sept. 17, someone broke into an outbuilding on his property and stole a TroyBilt, self-propelled push mower he valued at about $300, Sgt. Eric Rinehart reported.

Domestic assault arrest
Richard Green, 40, of 324 Highway 411, was arrested Thursday, Sept. 17, and charged with domestic assault, according to a Cocke County Sheriff's Department report.

Escape charge and arrest
Dustin K. Smith, 36, of 1242 Evans Valley Way, in Newport, was arrested Friday, Sept. 18, at 2540 Old Long Creek Road, in Del Rio, and charged with escape. The owner of a camper on the Long Creek Road property allegedly gave Sgt. Ricky Holt consent to search the camper. Smith was allegedly found hiding in a storage area in the floor. He allegedly left the New Hope Recovery Center on Thursday, Sept. 17, and did not return to the Cocke County Detention Center.

Single-vehicle accident on Interstate 40
Patricia M. Lampton, 71, of 929 Grey Fox Road, in Lugoff, S.C., was allegedly driving a 2002 Toyota Avalon on Friday, Sept. 18, headed west on Interstate 40 near the 431 mile marker at about 1:45 p.m. when she hit a guard rail on the north side of I-40, spun around and slid backwards to a stop, Deputy Sheriff David Crowder reported. Lampton was injured in the accident.

Theft alleged
Naoma Seay, 87, of State Highway 107, in Del Rio, said a person she named stole several items from her home in Grassy Fork, between April 2009 and Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, Lt. Rick Laws reported. The items included linens, a cedar chest, and food and spices, for a total value of $4,165, the report stated.

Two vehicles collide in driveway
Pamela S. Sutton, 50, of 324 Upper Road, in Parrottsville, was on Friday, Sept. 11, driving a 2003 Kia that collided with a 2006 Chevrolet that was parked in Sutton's driveway. Rita F. McGaha, 54, of 758 Derrick Road, in Dandridge, owns the Chevrolet that was parked in the driveway, according to a report by the Cocke County Sheriff's Department.

Accident on McGaha Chapel Road
Lisa Jenkins, 44, of 2540 Old Long Creek Road, in Del Rio, was traveling west on McGaha Chapel Road, near Bogard Road, on Thursday, Sept. 17, in a 1999 Saturn, that hit a 1990 Ford pickup truck driven by Donnie T. Matthews, 27, of 4173 Wilhite Road, in Sevierville, Deputy Sheriff Derrick Webb reported. No one was hurt in the accident, Webb's report stated. Matthews allegedly admitted fault and was cited for failure to provide proof of financial responsibility.

Phone harassment alleged
Linda Turner, 44, of Battle Road, said someone she knows called her neighbor on Friday, Sept. 18, in order to verbally harass Turner, Sgt. Eric Rinehart reported.

Aggravated burglary/vandalism under $500
Michelle Worboy, 34, of 305 Carson Springs Road, in Newport, said someone broke into her home on Friday, Sept. 18, and was probably scared by the three dogs she kept inside: a pit-bull, rottweiler, and mountain fiest. Worboy said her mountain fiest was injured by what appeared to be a gunshot wound to its right hop, Deputy Sheriff David Crowder reported. The dog was valued at $200.

Identity theft
Carolyn Bryant, 54, of Riviera Drive, in Newport, said on Friday, Sept. 18, that someone had stolen her identity and created a Web site with Yahoo Earthlink that cost $358.50. That was the amount taken out of her checking account, Deputy Sheriff Brian Holt reported.

Home allegedly not completed
Paul Casazoa, 52, of 1030 Mountain High Lane, in Newport, claimed on Thursday, Sept. 17, that he had written two different checks for a total of $20,000 to Mountain Living Homes: one for $10,000 on Dec. 31, 2007, and another one for $10,000 on Feb. 12, 2008. Casazoa said the work was never completed, Deputy Sheriff Danny Ray Reece reported. The Newport Plain Talk was unable to reach Doug Shoemaker, the purported owner of Mountain Living Homes, on Saturday, Sept. 19. Casazoa said Shoemaker told him he would pay him back, but has to date not done so.


Police

Theft reported
Linda Daniels, 57, of Gregg Lane, in Newport, said that between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 14, while she slept, someone apparently entered her unlocked back door and stole a Compaq laptop valued at $1,200, Patrolman Allen Stump reported.

Theft under $500
Michael Griner, of 355 Driskill Circle, in Newport, reported that on Friday, Sept. 18, he noticed his lawn mower was missing. He said he last used it on Saturday, Sept. 12, when he last mowed his yard, Patrolman Jason Hensley reported. The three-year-old push mower was valued at $150.

CD player reported stolen from vehicle
Amy Collins, of Restful Road, in Newport, said she noticed a Pioneer CD player valued at $100 was stolen from her 1992 Honda Accord on Friday, Sept. 18, while it was parked at Hardee's Restaurant at 816 Cosby Highway, in Newport, which is where she works, Patrolman Allen Stump reported.

Breaking and entering/theft over $10,000
EZ Rentals Manager Bryan King said that after store hours on Thursday, Sept. 17, or Friday, Sept. 18, in the early morning, someone broke the store's glass front door and stole several items from EZ Rentals valued a total of $18,676, Patrolman William Garber reported. Det. Donna Hopkins was called to the scene and collected some items for fingerprinting. Items stolen were several TV's, laptop computers, DVD players, game systems, camcorders and a BluRay player.

Alleged aggravated assault
Alicia Wright and Ashley Metcalf said after they removed some of their property from the residence with the permission of an acquaintance, on Friday, Sept. 18, at about 6:40 a.m., the acquaintance got in a car, spun around in the yard, and then, using the car, pushed both of them out of the yard and onto the asphalt, Patrolman Allen Stump reported.

Counterfeit $10 bill rejected
An employee of the Mapco gas station at 250 West Broadway said that on Saturday, Sept. 19, at about 12:27 a.m., a man he identified tried to purchase a rose with a counterfeit $10 bill. The man did not purchase any items from the store with the fake money. The man left the property before police arrived, Patrolman Jason Hensley reported.

Accident on Highway 321/Cosby Highway
A 1993 Geo Prizm driven by Michael F. James, 21, of 2439 Stonewall Jackson Drive, in Newport, allegedly struck the rear of a 2003 Mazda MPV van driven by Ashley R. Leahy, 19, of 700 English Mountain Road, in Newport, on Highway 321 on Friday, Sept. 18, at about 1:30 p.m., Patrolman William Garber reported.

Vehicle allegedly hits carport
Ralph Mardis, of Saber Lane, in Newport, said he was outside his home on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at about 5:15 p.m., when he heard a loud noise, looked across the street at 434 Woodlawn Ave., and saw a blonde woman walk away from a 1990 Pontiac Grand Am. The vehicle apparently hit a carport at the Woodlawn address, breaking a support pole on the carport, and bending the tin on its roof, Patrolman Allen Stump reported.

Public intoxication charge and arrest
Randy K. Hurley, 44, whose address was listed as the "Feed My Sheep Homeless Shelter," was arrested Friday, Sept. 18, at close to 11 p.m., on Main Street near "C" Avenue, and charged with public intoxication, Capt. Scott Lamb reported.

DUI and other charges in arrest
David K. Hickman, 48, of 6527 North Chasewood Drive, was arrested Friday, Sept. 18, and charged with DUI 1st offense, two counts of prohibited weapons, possession of a firearm while intoxicated, and possession of Schedule 4 drugs, Lt. Terry Lawson reported.

Theft of over $1,000
Connie Ramsey, 44, of 645 Ball Hollow Road, in Cosby, was arrested Thursday, Sept. 17, and charged with stealing a box of cigarettes worth $1,344 from the Murphy USA gas station at 1077 Cosby Highway, in Newport, Patrolman Donald Coakley reported.

Arrested for public intoxication
Sonya R. Parnell, 49, of 908 Olive Circle, in Newport, was arrested Thursday, Sept. 17, at 11 p.m., near Food City West at 181 Western Plaza Way, in Newport, and charged with public intoxication, according to a report by Patrolman Matthew Elliott. Both Elliott and Constable Danny Hartsell allegedly saw Parnell stumbling along the roadside.

Accident at Fox and Hounds Restaurant
A 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass owned by Reva Fay Brown, of Sheppard Street, in Newport, was parked in a parking space at Fox & Hound Supper Club, at 127 Fox & Hound Way, in Newport, on Thursday, Sept. 17, when a 2004 Cadillac Deville driven by Janella Clark Neas, 78, of Wellswood Lane, in Knoxville, allegedly backed into Brown's vehicle, causing damage to both cars, Patrolman Billy Woody reported.

Theft over $10,000
Myra Mooneyham on Tuesday, Sept. 15, named an individual she said brought in to her shop various pieces of jewelry. Mooneyham said she had already turned around and sold all but one piece of jewelry to private buyers, or scrap, Detective Donna Hopkins reported. Another individual allegedly admitted to stealing the jewelry was placed in a drug and alcohol treatment program through Juvenile Court.

Two vehicles in parking lot accident
A 2004 Chevy S-10 pickup truck driven by William Wendell Jackson Sr., 70, of 115 Drive Way, in Newport, was allegedly hit in the parking lot of Jefferson-Cocke County Utility District by a 1983 Buick Regal driven by Mildred R. Grahl, 77, of Ninth Street, in Newport, on Friday, Sept. 18, Capt. Brad Ball reported.

Vehicle hits parked and unoccupied vehicle
Lisa Ann Hannon, 44, of 580 Old Sevierville Highway, in Newport, said she was backing her 2004 Ford van from a parking space at 465 Learning Way, in Newport, on Friday, Sept. 18, when her vehicle struck a 2005 Dodge Caravan that was parked and unoccupied at the time, Patrolman William Garber reported.

Theft under $500
Burl Gillespie, 53, of 147 Tabor St., in Newport, said that on Thursday, Sept. 17, he believes an acquaintance he named stole the receiver from his phone, Patrolman Heather Lawson reported. The V-Tec cordless phone received was valued at $50.

Harassment alleged
Ken Schultz, 40, of 1065 Old Solomon Ferry Road, in Newport, said that on Thursday, Sept. 17, that a person he knows threatened and harassed him while at the Newport Towne Center on the Cosby Highway, Patrolman Heather Lawson reported.

Assault alleged
Frederick William Rosato, 44, of 411 West Broadway, in Newport, said when he started to walk home from the Midnight Rodeo on Wednesday, Aug. 16, at about 11:30 p.m., three males pulled up beside him, got out of their vehicle, and started to attack him for no apparent reason, Patrolman Matthew Elliott reported.

Stolen gun recovered
On Thursday, Sept. 17, Det. Donna Hopkins spoke with James Riggins, at 2940 White Pine Way, in reference to a recovered firearm from Dixie Pawn.

Vandalism of vehicle alleged
Steven Smith, 54, of Cosby Highway, in Newport, told Patrolman Donald Coakley that while he was at the Courthouse at 111 Court Ave., in Newport, on Thursday, May 17, for about an hour, someone broke the driver side mirror on his 2005 Rod F-250 pickup truck. The mirror was valued at $200.

Accident at Walmart reported
James J. Philip, 48, of 140 Sunshine Lane, said that on Thursday, Sept. 17, he misjudged his distance and a trailer he was hauling at the Walmart parking lot caught a stop sign, jerking it and two big pieces of pavement out of the ground, Patrolman Donald Coakley reported.
