INCIDENTS
Theft under $500
Betty Fox, 48, 400 Terrace Way, reported the theft of a Play Station portable player to Patrol Officer Matthew Elliott on Wednesday. The missing item is valued at $218.40.
Theft of credit card
Jimmy Weaver, 51, 4240 Dutch Valley Road, Washburn, reported to Patrol Officer Allen Stump on Tuesday that his VISA credit card had been stolen. Items charged to the card total $602.
Theft over $1,000
Lt. Terry Lawson is investigating the reported theft of a brown convertible soft Jeep top, valued at $800, and two Jeep side doors from 4-Star Auto, 427 Cosby Hwy. Katie Egert, 128 Edward Way, Newport, reported the thefts on Tuesday.
Assault reported
Patrol Officer Matthew Elliott reported an alleged assault and other violations on Wednesday at a 544 Oak Ave. residence. According to Elliott, Tammy Lowe, 51, reported that a male had assaulted her, vandalized the residence, and trespassed on the property.
Vandalism reported
Betty Fox, 48, 400 Terrace Way, reported the door and doorbell to her residence vandalized on Wednesday to Patrol Officer Matthew Elliott. Fox said the damage, estimated at $210, was inflicted by a man with a baseball bat.
Car title stolen
Heather Shults, 22, 342 Clifton Heights, reported the title to her 1992 Buick Century, was taken from her residence on Wednesday. Shults reported the theft to Patrol Officer Donald Coakley.
Dog bite reported
Anthony Bias, 19, 655 Seventh St., told Patrol Officer Jason Hensley on Tuesday that as he mowed his yard, a Great Dane belonging to a neighbor jumped over a fence and bit him.
Counterfeit money reported
Two incidents of people trying to pass counterfeit money were reported to police this week. Patrol Officer Matt Franklin said that on Tuesday, someone attempted to pay for items at Food City East with a counterfeit $10 bill, and on the same day another person attempted to use a counterfeit $5 bill at Food City East Gas-N-Go.
Drug charge placed
Carla D. Millette, 1410 Green Acres Drive, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia by Patrol Officer Jason Hensley on Wednesday.
SHERIFF
Deputies Jason Oury and C. J. Ball charged James Wigfall, 22, 914 North Henry Street, with violation of probation following his arrest on Tuesday.
ACCIDENTS
One-vehicle accident
On Wedneday, as Kyle D. Valentine, 18, 152 East St., drove a 2004 Ford Mustang, owned by Donald and Paula Valentine, same address, east on Second Street, his vehicle failed to stop for a stop sign, slid off the roadway and down an embankment, coming to rest against a tree. Sgt. David R. Smith investigated the accident.
Vehicles collide in curve
On Wednesday, two vehicles collided in a curve on Musterfield Road, according to Patrol Officer Robby McMahan. The accident occurred when a 2006 Ford driven by Mary L. Pierce, 34, 334 Pierce Road, and a 2005 Ford operated by Stacie L. Norwood, 17, 406 Sonny Boy Way, Del Rio, and owned by Billy Norwood, same address, met in a curve at the intersection of Musterfield Road and Glen Way. According to McMahan, Pierce lost control of her vehicle and slid into the front bumper of Norwood's car.
Vacuum cleaner is victim
A vacuum cleaner was the victim in a one-vehicle mishap in the parking lot of Bryant Town Car Wash on Wednesday, according to Patrol Office Donald Coakley. The police report states that as Jimmy Lee, 70, 339 Lincoln Ave., put his vehicle into reverse, he backed over a vacuum cleaner owned by the Newport Street Department.
Parking lot mishap
On Wednesday, as Gwenda K. Shelton, 53, 246 English Mountain Road, attempted to back a 2006 Ford van owned by Douglas Cooperative from a parking space in the Douglas Cooperative parking lot, the vehicle struck a 2005 Dodge van owned by Kimberly A. Dickerson, 42, 563 Blueberry Way, causing minor damage to Dickerson's vehicle.
Deer causes accident
Deputy Jason Oury responded to a one-vehicle accident on Sweetwater Road on Wednesday. According to Oury, Tony H. Naillon, 19, 455 Middle Creek Road, Cosby, said that as he operated a 2006 Honda, owned by Melissa D. Naillon, same address on Sweetwater Road, a deer crossed his path causing him to swerve. His vehicle then left the road and entered a creek.
Lindsey Gap Road accident
Two vehicles collided on Lindsey Gap Road on Tuesday, according to Sgt. Eric Rinehart. The accident occurred when a 2000 Toyota, driven by Benjamin M. Harris, 27, 206 McGaha Chapel Road, and a 1999 Ford Ranger, driven by Billy D. Baxter, 48, 105 Fairlawn Drive, met in a curve. Both vehicles were damaged in the mishap.
Car vandalized
Connie Davis, 29, 2167 Dark Hollow Road, reported her car vandalized to Deputy Derrick Webb on Wednesday. There is a suspect in the incident.
Burglary reported
Susan Stilwell, 31, 614 Battle Road, reported her home entered and several items taken to Deputy Hollis Emmons on Wednesday.
Storage buildings entered
Rankin Parks, 350 Gardenia Road, reported three storage buildings on his property had been entered and several items stolen to Deputy David Crowder on Tuesday.
Vandalism under $500
Sandra Davidson, 45, 382 Mountain Valley Way, reported the vandalism of her car to Deputy David Crowder on Tuesday. According to Crowder's report, Davidson said that on Friday, her vehicle's brakes failed. Later she and her son-in-law discovered a nail had been placed between the rotor and brake pad and that the wheels' lug nuts had been loosened. They reportedly repaired the car. On Monday, Sept. 14, she discovered that all of the lug nuts had again been loosened on the car's front tires.
