Vehicle hits cow on Fowlers Grove Road Raymond R. Snader Jr., 61, of 1190 Fox Hollow Road, in Bybee, said he was driving a 2009 Ford pickup truck north on Fowlers Grove Road, near Baysinger Road, on Friday, Sept. 4, at about 8:45 p.m., when the vehicle struck a black cow standing in the road, Deputy Sheriff Jason Oury reported. Snader was not injured. Snader and a witness said it was difficult to see the cow due to dark conditions and the dark color of the cow.
Two-car accident on Morrell Springs Road Jeffery J. Shelton, 30, of 2695 Bogard Road, in Newport, was driving a 1997 Plymouth Voyager van, headed south on Morrell Springs Road, near Slide In Way, on Sunday, Sept. 6, at about 1:30 p.m., when his vehicle started sliding on the wet road, crossing the center line and colliding head-on with a 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck headed north on the road that was driven by Roy N. Leatherwood, 66, of 1429 Nottingham Drive, in Newport, Deputy Sheriff Brian Holt reported. Six people were reported injured in the accident. Leatherwood was transported by Allied EMS ambulance to Baptist Hospital of Cocke County.
Arrested for domestic assault Lamar Jones, 32, of 680 Jones Creek Road, in Del Rio, was arrested Thursday, Sept. 3, and charged with domestic assault, Deputy Sheriff Randall Hartsell reported.
Driving on a suspended license 2nd offense Gary D. Shults, 33, of 4275 Charis Road, in Cosby, was arrested Thursday, Sept. 3, and charged with driving on a suspended license 2nd offense, Constable Danny Hartsell reported.
Joy riding and fleeing to evade charges Shysti R. Crum, 24, of 690 Highway 73, in Newport, was arrested Sunday, Aug. 30, and charged with joy riding and fleeing to evade by foot, Deputy Sheriff Robert Thornton reported. April S. Hawk, 29, of 134 Willis Road, was arrested and charged with taking a car without the owner's permission (theft over $1,000) and fleeing to evade by foot.
DUI 5th offense charge in arrest Dennis Boggs, 50, of 1777 Mellow Road, in Newport, was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 2, at 11:30 p.m., and charged with DUI 5th offense, financial responsibility, driving on a revoked driver's license 2nd offense, failure to carry registration, an open container of alcohol, and violation of Tennessee implied consent. Boggs allegedly had four prior DUI's in Virginia, Sgt. Armando Fontes reported. Boggs was found in his van off Bybee Road, which he had run off of and wrecked into the edge of a tree line, Fontes wrote.
Public intoxication charge and arrest Horace Ball, 47, of 2024 Snipe Lane, in New Market, was arrested Monday, Sept. 7, and charged with public intoxication, Constable Danny Hartsell reported.
Driving while license revoked, and light law, charges Gerald Burke, 44, of 128 Parrotts Ridge Road, in Parrottsville, was arrested Sunday, Sept. 6, and charged with driving while revoked, and a light law, Constable Roger Henderson reported. Burke was allegedly driving south on Cosby Highway with a driver's side headlight out.
Public intoxication arrest David Michael Owens, 34, of 853 Pratt Road, in Talbott, was arrested Sunday, Sept. 6, and charged with public intoxication after he allegedly was riding a bicycle on Hannon Road and wrecked it in the ditch line, Deputy Sheriff Steve Johnson reported.
Leaving scene of an accident and public intoxication charges Heather N. Ramsey, 21, of 997 Old Newport Highway, was arrested Tuesday, Sept. 8, and charged with public intoxication and leaving the scene of an accident, Constable Danny Hartsell reported.
Charged with bringing tobacco and pills into jail James Kelley Moore, 20, of 508 Sorghum Way, in Newport, was arrested Sunday, Sept. 6, and charged with introduction of contraband into a penal facility, possession of Schedule II, and possession of Schedule III, Deputy Sheriff Daniel Blankenship reported. Moore allegedly went to visit an inmate at the detention center and found to have an active capias. He stated he was bringing tobacco that had five pills hidden in it to an inmate he was visiting, the report stated.
Driving on a revoked driver's license 6th offense Terry I. Cureton, 48, of 881 New Cave Church Road, in Newport, was arrested Thursday, Sept. 3, and charged with driving on a revoked driver's license 6th offense after he allegedly ran a stop sign on Buda Street, Sgt. Armando Fontes reported.
Disorderly conduct and resisting arrest alleged Jeffrey M. Ramsey, 49, of 310 College St., in Newport, was arrested Sunday, Sept. 6, and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, Patrolman Jason Hensley reported. Officers responded to a call of a domestic disturbance at his home.
Possession of drug paraphernalia charge Ashley Player, 22, of 381 Alex St., in Newport, was arrested Saturday, Sept. 5, and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, Patrolman Amy Elswick reported. An acquaintance, Wendell Garver, 30, was arrested and charged with domestic assault. He allegedly told police he snorts his medication after police questioned him on why he had a yellowish residue around his nose.
Public intoxication arrest Ralph J. Talton, 82, of Long Creek Road, in Parrottsville, was arrested Monday, Sept. 7, and charged with public intoxication after officers allegedly responded to a call of an intoxicated male outside of Freddy's Bar, Patrolman Robby McMahan reported.
Public intoxication charge and arrest Jason E. Gorrell, 37, of 2810 Knob Creek Road, in Bybee, was arrested Saturday, Sept. 5, and charged with public intoxication, Patrolman Jason Hensley reported.
Vandalism of vehicle Paige Banks said that on Saturday, Sept. 5, while she was parked at the parking lot at Fred's, at 122 Five Rivers Plaza Way, for one hour, someone appeared to have intentionally dented her vehicle, a 2003 Honda Accord, scratched the length of the passenger side, and scratched an obscenity on the trunk lid, Patrolman Jason Hensley reported. Damage was estimated at $1,000. Banks named a suspect.
Car fire reported Sandra Mayes, 37, of 1135 Arrowhead Drive, in Newport, said that on Saturday, Sept. 5, while she was asleep, someone set her 1990 Oldsmobile on fire and destroyed it, Deputy Sheriff C.J. Ball reported. The vehicle is valued at $1,000.
Burglary reported Anthony Parker, 41, of Morningside Drive, said that someone entered his home on Friday, Sept. 4, and stole medication, a check written for rent, and a book of checks, Deputy Sheriff C.J. Ball reported. Total amount of stolen items is $625.
Handgun reported stolen Melissa Shoemaker, 45, of Indian Camp Road, in Cosby, reported that on Thursday, Aug. 20, someone stole her Smith-Wesson 9 mm handgun from her home. She named a suspect, Lt. Rick Laws reported. The handgun is valued at $400.
Vandalism alleged Patricia Gail Paul, 35, of Bat Harbor Road, in Newport, said between Wednesday, Sept. 2, and Friday, Sept. 4, someone allegedly added something to the gas tank of her 1992 Mazda Protégé, causing possible damage to the engine. She named two suspects, Sgt. Eric Rinehart reported.
Simple assault alleged A 70-year-old landlord was trying to evict one of her tenants who allegedly refused to leave the apartment complex, on Friday, Sept. 4, when the tenant grabbed some paperwork and drew back his right hand in a fist to strike someone. He had to be physically restrained, but was not arrested, Sgt. Eric Rinehart reported.
Theft reported Donna Hall, of Grassy Fork Road, in Hartford, said on Friday, Sept. 4, that sometime between Thursday, Aug. 27, and Wednesday, Sept. 2, someone stole her Lowland Credit ATM card and spent about $160 on her account, Lt. Rick Laws reported.
Phone harassment alleged Jennifer Holt, 31, of Bean Station, said someone she knows left a threatening phone message on her cell phone at about 10:30 p.m., on Friday, Sept. 4. She told Deputy Sheriff Steve Johnson the person threatened to harm her and damage her vehicle.

Theft of John Deere lawn tractor from business Birch Wood, owner of Newport Tire Center, at 1064 West Highway 25/70, in Newport, reported that someone stole a John Deere lawn tractor from the business, which was caught on a security camera, Capt. Brad Ball reported. The model X500 John Deere lawn tractor is estimated at $6,000.
Theft of a vehicle Terry White of White's Monuments said someone stole his 1997 Nissan XE pickup truck while it was parked at the business, from Friday, Sept. 4, to Monday, Sept. 7, Capt. James Holt reported. The vehicle is valued at $2,500.
License plate reported stolen Jackie Holt, 63, of 701 Blue Ridge Way, in Newport, said she noticed on Saturday, Sept. 5, that someone had stolen a license plate off of her 2005 Chevrolet EQUI, Patrolman William Garber reported. It is valued at $45.
Violation of an Order of Protection Eita Fox, 52, of 122 Melton Road, in Newport, said a relative of hers violated an Order of Protection against the person when they drove her house when she was outside of it and yelled an obscenity at her, Patrolman Jason Hensley reported.
Burglary alleged Bobby Sutton, 21, of 232 Bowman Drive, in Newport, said someone broke into his home on Saturday, Sept. 5, or Sunday, Sept. 6, and stole a 50-inch LG TV (worth $2,000), a PlayStation 3 ($200), and three PlayStation games ($10 each). Damage to a window is listed at $200, Lt. Terry Lawson reported. Sutton named two possible suspects.
Harassment alleged Frank Mahoney, 36, of 164 Hill Crest Drive, in Parrottsville, said a person he knows drove erratically and swerved in front of his vehicle twice while he was driving, on Monday, Sept. 7, "in a hostile manner," causing Mahone to slam on the brakes to keep from hitting the other vehicle. Mahone said the person then tried to get him to get out of his pickup truck and to fight him after Mahone pulled into the Okey Dokey Market at 1081 West Highway 25/70, in Newport, Sgt. Jason Smith reported.
Theft under $500 Esther Murphy, 45, of 643 4th St., in Newport, said someone stole several items from her 1995 Ford Escort on Monday, Sept 7, Patrolman Robby McMahan reported. She said the thief entered her vehicle through an unlocked driver side door and took one Panasonic CD player (valued at about $100), an AT&T Pre-pay phone (about $40), and three CDs (about $60).
Wallet, cash lost at Walmart McKenzie Tucker, 14, of Tucker Place, in Dandridge, said he dropped his wallet inside Walmart, but was unsure where, on Sunday, Sept. 9, Patrolman Amy Elswick reported. The brown Dockers wallet allegedly had savings bonds and cash worth $1,200.
Vandalism of vending machine at Days Inn Makesh Mehta, of the Days Inn at 1014 Cosby Highway, said that on Saturday, Sept. 5, someone cut locks on a Coke vending machine, but did not gain access to its contents, Patrolman Matt Franklin reported.
Battery from Ford tractor reported stolen Earl Norton said that on either Saturday, Sept. 5, or Sunday, Sept. 6, someone stole the battery of a Ford tractor that was sitting outside the M&N Automotive garage at 700 Lower Quarry Road, in Newport, Patrolman Allen Stump reported. The Everstart
