ABINGDON, Va.-Company officials recently announced that Food City Pharmacy will once again be providing Seasonal Flu Vaccine in their pharmacies.

"Food City was fortunate to be able to immunize several thousand customers with the flu vaccine last fall.  Over the last four years, we have trained over 60 of our pharmacists to administer vaccinations in accordance with the standards set by the American Pharmacist Association and the Virginia and Tennessee Pharmacy Associations and all flu shots will now be given by a Food City Pharmacist," stated Don Clark, Vice President of Pharmacy Operations.

Seasonal Flu Vaccine is available on a walk up basis at Food City Immunizing Pharmacies beginning September 1st (visit www.foodcity.com for a complete list of immunizing locations) and will continue throughout Flu Season based on the availability of Vaccine.

Flu shot clinics are also being scheduled for October, again based on the availability of Vaccine.  Food City Pharmacy will be following the Center for Disease Control (CDC) Guidelines.

While all individuals should consider receiving a Seasonal Flu Shot, the CDC classifies the following individuals as High Risk for Seasonal Influenza:  persons 65 or older, residents of long-term care facilities, persons 2-64 years of age with co-morbid (more than one disease) conditions, pregnant women, healthcare personnel who provide direct patient care or household contacts and out-of-home caregivers of children under 6 months of age. The CDC strongly recommends that the High Risk individuals receive a Seasonal Flu shot.

The flu shots will be administered for $25 or $23 with a Food City ValuCard and Medicare Part B will be accepted.  Pneumonia shots will also be available for $45.  Please consult your local Food City Pharmacy for clinic dates and times or visit www.foodcity.com for a complete schedule.  Flu season is generally from mid-November through April.

"Food City takes pride in serving our community and we're excited to offer customers the added convenience of Seasonal Flu vaccinations," commented Steve Smith, Food City President and Chief Executive Officer.

Headquartered in Abingdon, Va., K-VA-T Food Stores, Inc. (Food City's parent company) operates 105 supermarkets and 76 Pharmacies throughout the tri-state region of Southeast Kentucky, Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee.
