Violation of probation charge and arrest
Michael Paul Runyan, 32, of 1074 Edwina Bridgeport Road, in Newport, was charged with violation of probation on Friday, June 26, according to a report by Deputy Sheriff David Crowder. Runyan was arrested at Hamblen County Jail.

Failure to appear charge and arrest
Dustin Kent Smith, 36, of 1242 Evans Valley Way, in Newport, on Friday, June 26, was charged with failure to appear, according to a report by Deputy Sheriff David Crowder. Smith was in Sevier County Jail at the time of the charge.

Break-in reported
Roy Shropshire, 43, of Smelcer Road, in Parrottsville, said that on Tuesday, June 23, between 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m., someone broke into his home, apparently by prying open the back door. Items reported stolen, and their value, was: a TroyBilt 42-inch riding mower ($1,400), a TroyBilt pressure washer ($350), a Stihl chain saw ($20), a Husquarna 16-inch chain saw ($300), a Craftsmen air tank ($150), and 12-gauge shotgun ($300), a 12-gauge, double-barrel shotgun ($150), two .22 rifles ($200), a Smith & Wesson revolver ($300), a .22-caliber revolver ($200), and a Rossi long un ($150).

Large sum of money allegedly gone
John Hodges, 65, of Big Creek Road, in Hartford, told Patrolman Travis Gorrell he put $16,000 in cash into his safe deposit box at US Bank on Main Street, in Newport, and when he checked the box again on Thursday, June 25, all the money was gone.

Arrested for aggravated assault
Travis C. Caughron, of 406 White Oak Ave., in Newport, was arrested Friday, June 26, around 10:30 p.m. and charged with aggravated assault, according to a report by Patrolman Jason Hensley.

Criminal trespassing charge and arrest
Tanya J. Weathers, 36, of 644 East Broadway, in Newport, was arrested Saturday, June 27, at Brock's Market and charged with criminal trespassing, according to a report by Patrolman Allen Stump. Weathers had allegedly been told not to be in the store and had been asking customers for money and food. When an officer allegedly asked her to leave, she refused and was arrested.
