NEWPORT-The Cocke County Recreation Department's 11-12 Girl's Fastpitch League's Diamond Divas are certainly the Divas of the diamond in Cocke County.

The Diamond Divas went undefeated in the regular season, and kept their record perfect by winning the post-season tournament this past weekend at Cocke County High School Lady Red Field in Newport.

As regular-season champions, the Diamond Divas had an opening round bye, so the double-elimination tournament opened with Blue Thunder taking on the Cheetas.

The Cheetas saved their best ball of the season for the tournament, outlasting Blue Thunder in a slugfest 19-15. Lindsey Frazier had four strikeouts in picking up the victory from the circle.

Game two of the tournament had the Diamond Divas going up against the Cheetas, and the Divas took care of business getting an 11-0 shutout. Bethanie Williams had five strikeouts and three walks in picking up the victory. At the plate, the Divas' Sydney Hazelwood was 2-3, Sydney Sneed was 1-2, Jaylon Dunn was 1-1 and Allison Frazier drew two walks.

Game three was a battle for the right to face the Diamond Divas in the championship game, and was also a rematch from Game one as Blue Thunder looked to exact some revenge on the Cheetas. This time, it was Blue Thunder coming away with a 3-1 victory as Rayanne Moody pitched a gem for the win.

Blue Thunder and the Diamond Divas had some great battles during the regular season, and were all set for the championship tilt. But, this night belonged to Autumn Bible, who had eight strikeouts and allowed only two walks in pitching the Diamond Divas to a 7-1 victory and the championship trophy. Abbie Ramsey and Sydney Hazelwood collected two singles each while Sydney Sneed, Leah Lewandowski and Bethanie Williams each contributed singles at the plate.

With the tournament complete, 10 players from the Diamond Divas and three players from Blue Thunder will form a Smoky Mountain All-Star Team, which will begin District tournament play in just a few days time. The 11-12 Girl's District Tournament will be played in Rogersville this year. The Smoky Mountain All-Star squad will be coached by Herbie Frazier with Rob Bible and Chuck Strange as assistants.

We'll let you know the schedule as soon as it is released.
